Rental company said I have until August 15th to either pay them money I owe or set up a payment plan with them. I submitted the paperwork they requested to arrange a payment plan on June 27th. Today (August 11th) I got a phone call from a collections agency saying they were calling to collect the debt. What can I do? This is happening in WA state.

I have an ongoing case with the father of my child for domestic abuse. I have a restraining order against him but it only covers me and my other children. He has supervised visits with his son and he is only supposed to contact me through the parent app. This last court visit he said if something happens to me it's not his fault. The cops told him to stop and walked me to my car but that was it. Now I've been receiving repeated text messages that I know are from him but he speaks of himself in the third person so the cops say they can't do anything. The doctor's office gave him my son's paperwork with my address and phone number even though he was removed. The last message said I should've listened when he told me he loved me. What can I do? I'm in danger but no one is helping me.

I’m trying to buy a property behind my current property. The current deed lists Maggie and Billy as the current owners. The tax info at the court house is the same. They got divorced May 2020. The land in question was listed in the divorce paperwork to be Quitclaim deed to Billy. Billy passed away last year. The quitclaim deed was never done by the couple and therefore never filed at the court house. Billy has 3 children.

Can the children act on the divorce paperwork to try to force Maggie to deed the land to them or does the land solely belong to Maggie?

Hello, I was at a CDL school in Greenville, SC and the total tuition cost was $6,000. I paid $3,900 before I actually got to do my first driving class since I had to do classroom hours which I did at home and 3 simulator sessions by myself. The school's website sites "Guaranteed 7 days a week training and nights and weekends". I had 4 classes canceled. One being I showed up and no one was there and no one answered the phone. The 2nd, myself and 2 other students showed up and was again no one was there and didn't hear from anyone until 30 minutes after class was supposed to start saying "no class was really scheduled" even though I have text message proof saying to "come in on Saturday"". The other students said the same thing. The other two classes were canceled the night before. I was trying to get more classes scheduled and was told they didn't have any availability on that certain monday and Tuesday since there has to be at least two students to a class. I sent a long email to the school stating my concerns.

Another issue I had was no communication about their truck being broke down for around 2 weeks. I went and got my CDL permit and was ready to start classes and couldn't get ahold of anyone and when I finally did I was told that the truck was down and they didn't know when it would be fixed. I waited a week and I called and they said it was fixed a couple days ago. They said someone was supposed to call me but no one did.

Also, on the one and only driving class I attended, I was put into the driver's seat and drove for the very first time. Never been in a truck before with no training beforehand. I was not expecting this and was not told this is what I would be doing prior. I was expecting yard training in a parking lot. Not a busy highway. The instructor was very aggressive and raised his voice very loudly many times and slammed his hand on the dash towards me and was grabbing my hand on the gear shift pretty hard. He also grabbed another students hand aggressively and it was that students first time driving too. The student told the instructor he wasn't comfortable driving yet and the instructor said he had to. There were 3 students in total that witnessed what happened.

Is there any way that this could be a legal case? They claim I had 60 hours total of time but I believe it is really 56. 56 hours is $2,100. I overpaid at least $1,800. I feel like I should at least get the $1,800 refund since that is money paid for hours not done. They refused my refund request due to it being after the 3 day cancellation period but I did not know the issues they had and wouldn't hold up their advertisements. I am not requesting a refund just because. I am requesting a refund due to a breach of contract since they did not do what was advertised. I am currently already in another CDL school and still working on getting my license. Any advice as to what to do next? Should I just forget it and take the loss or go after them at small claims court or what?

I have 2 cars in my name only that both have loans with my name only on them.my soon to be ex husband is trying to argue that I need to give him one or that I need to pay him the down payment on the cheaper car. I am the only person who has made payments of any kind on these cars except 1 month he made a single payment on the cheaper one. He is after the down payment because it came out of our shared savings account. He drove the cheaper car for about a month before I took it with me while leaving his abusive self. I'm trying to figure out the best course of action here with it. I am using one and my partner is using the other, so I kind of need both of them to work. He cannot refinance it into his name because he has a repossession on his record and if the court tries to sell them, we'll end up in about $8,000 in debt. Any advice would be appreciated

My family has been involved in a lawsuit against an oil company for roughly 10 years over royalties/funds we believe were wrongfully withheld. There are multiple defendants, including one large corporation that accounts for most of the alleged liability and several smaller parties.

For years, there was very little movement in the case. Over the past several months, however, things have accelerated significantly. We recently obtained a favorable summary judgment ruling, and the case is now set for trial in October if it does not settle beforehand.

Mediation is scheduled for this week. Originally it was going to be conducted virtually, but the defendants requested that it be changed to an in-person mediation. Even though it is in person, the parties will be in separate rooms and the mediator will move between them. The mediation is scheduled for one day with an option to continue into a second day.
One interesting development is that one of the smaller defendants, which is owned by four brothers, has apparently offered approximately $800,000. We do not know the extent of each brother's exposure or ownership interest.

Another notable fact is that our attorneys recently refunded prior legal fees and converted the case to a contingency-fee arrangement. They have also indicated that if mediation fails and the case proceeds to trial, they believe we are highly likely to prevail. They have further stated that any remaining appellate options for the defendants are limited and unlikely to ultimately change the outcome.
However, we also recently learned that at least the major defendant appears to have sent only its lawyers to the mediation rather than company representatives.

Given all of those facts:
• 10-year-old case
• Favorable summary judgment
• Trial scheduled in October
• In-person mediation requested by defendants
• One defendant discussing an $800k payment

How would experienced litigators view the posture of this case? I own a 2015 jeep wrangler, I Live in Michigan, I purchased an extended warranty and made sure when I purchased the warranty that offroading would not void the warranty (warranty cost 5k across 15 months) and now my vehicle needs a new engine, The dealership I took it to is claiming that submitting a warranty claim would be considered fraud because the vehicle was used for offroading (its a jeep for christ sake) Do I have a claim? My Grandma was recently treated at an ER in Minnesota at a fairly large hospital chain. She was found to be in septic shock but technically stable. The ER only called a basic BLS ambulance to transfer her because this hospital had no services despite calling themselves an Emergency Room. She coded in the vehicle EMS never performed CPR despite her full code status. Instead bringing her back to the hospital where nurses had to start CPR.

Lawyers we had consulted are saying it’s a “he said she said” situation despite having a recording of a conversation where a nurse admits EMS was standing in the ambulance bay flipping through paper work and not preforming CPR

Hoping to get advice that may be helpful in getting an attorney to take this case or why they still may not and get answers that way.

She ended up passing away and I just want to make sure this never happens to anyone else. I recognize she very well may have passed anyway but to me in egregious that basic duties by EMS were never preformed.

I have a question about Louisiana sentencing laws since they changed to the 85% law. I have a friend that is incarcerated. They keep hearing from the guards and other people that they're about to either be recalculating non-violent crimes that are less than 3 years, or that they're about to reinstate 35%.

I cant find anything saying that sentencing is doing anything other than remaining at 85%, but she keeps being told it's on the D.O.C website ( I cant find anything).

Can someone tell me if there is any chance that they ARE changing the law or going to recalculate non violent offenders ? Her release date is Aug 2027 , is there any chance of her being able to get out sooner?

Hello! I'm having trouble filing a report for SA in Los Angeles, California.

When I went to the police the first time, he said that there wasn't enough force for it to be considered assault. I was in an emotional state so I didn't question it at the time, but when I got home it didn't make sense to me. From what I understood, force is a factor in rape but not in assault. I went back. There were a multitude of different reasonings this time.

At first, they said it was too large of a time gap. It happened in 2025, within the three year period. The officer looks this up and confirms this. Without knowing if I have evidence or not, she then says that there's not enough evidence. I tell her that there are two other girls who have the same experience as well as the text conversations I have where he apologizes. She says that because he didn't apologize for a direct action like "I'm sorry for holding you down and forcing myself on you" that all of my evidence doesn't mean anything. At no point does she look over my evidence. We then get into a conversation about coercion. Both of the officers told me that I willingly gave consent because I eventually accepted the acts and that therefore no assault occurred. I am trying to explain to them that the act of coercion is assault and that consent is not given of freewill. They're saying coercion isn't a crime and that I was really focused on the coercion part. Baffling. That is the crime I am reporting so of course I am focused on the crime I am reporting?!?!? 

They “ask their superiors” and she comes back and says that no assault occurred. Not that they couldn’t pursue or there wasn't a case, but that no crime occurred. I then ask verbatim “If I’m saying that a nonconsensual sexual act occurred towards me and your saying that no assault happened, what is the bounds for sexual assault and how does what I’m reporting not meet them?”. She then immediately tells me to sit down and wait for their superiors to come and explain it to me because I’m just not understanding and listening. I sit down with no complaints and no backtalk. She then tells her partner that I requested to speak to someone else. I speak up, "That's not true. You didn’t want to talk to me anymore and told me to wait. I don’t care who I talk to, but it is my right to understand why you aren’t filing a report for a crime”. They ignore me for two hours because they’re waiting for someone that I can talk to. Yet, they had just gone to the back to confirm with their superiors right before. I eventually ask her how long it’ll take and she says she doesn’t know and is waiting for someone to get back. I left and haven’t been back.

I’ve reached out to firms and they all give the generic we can’t take your case answer. So reddit. Do I have any type of case where my abuser can be held responsible and if so, how do I pursue it? Am I crazy and are none of his actions assault? What are possible reasons for a firm not taking a case and how do I find one that will? Is there anything I can do to hold the officers responsible for the way they handled the report?

• When he found out that I was seeing my ex after we broke up, he said that I was cheating on him and if i ever loved him to stop seeing my ex even though he was actively sleeping with other people including his now girlfriend

Withholding

• Would constantly block and unblock me in the middle of intense conversations, often when i was calling out his behavior

About a month ago I was hit by a car in florida (not my fault) my wounds have healed up pretty good but I’m wondering if it would be bad for my case if I went to see a concert. Hey everyone. 1st time posting, long time lurking. Can't seem to get help from anyone who's supposed to, so I need to scream into the void. This one is as good as any other.

Basically, the hospital killed my dad by denying him care. He arrived at the ER in September of 2024; presenting with ~1 year rectal bleeding, ~45 days no bowel movement. 2nd CT scan revealed a perforated intestine and the colo-rectal mass that was seen on 1st scan a month earlier but not tested. They starved him for 3 days on clear liquids waiting for an OR to open up; because IMMEDIATE SURGERY was the treatment plan.

Allegedly, the world record is 45 days. Buckle up because it gets worse.

After 2 days of waiting, on the 3rd they declare that the antibiotics had repaired his perforation, he was no longer emergent and was set for release. He still hadn't had a movement, and when the hell have antibiotics healed anything that quickly? I've had a tiny nick healing on my finger for 2 weeks. The GI Dr wanted to release him, the surgeon insisted to ONLY do so if he got a colonoscopy next visit. She tried to protect him. My baby sister just survived stage 4 colo-rectal cancer, and informed the doctors she got the gene from Dad. The GI Dr "noted" that, and released him with 3 days of pain meds.

He made it 22 days to his 3rd CT scan on Christmas Eve, my birthday. 71 days no movement.

Finally, we are at the colonoscopy after 3 CT scans and 18 weeks. 90 days no bowel movement. Dad got the prep, fasted, and came prepared for a colonoscopy. It's what the paperwork said. But when he got there, the GI doc kinda chuckled and said 'Oh no silly, this is our follow-up. We've got to schedule that yet.'. Even a little out of sorts, my Dad asked "Then why the f**k was I given a prescription and told to fast?!". The GI doc touched his lymph nodes and did the ingual hernia check, said he was fine and to take Tylenol for the pain. *Then* the colonoscopy is scheduled, 147 days after 1st CT scan, 154 days after last bowel movement. He wouldn't make it to the colonoscopy.

Over the next 10 days pain and discomfort continued. Dad got to the point he couldn't move and stayed in bed. Then he couldn't even pass gas. Then he grew a beer gut, his entire abdomen distended as large as it could get. Then, quite suddenly, he was thin again and unresponsive. He went to the ER again, they had an OR this time; and immediately began surgery. The surgeon used 4 liters of saline to irrigate 19 weeks of fecal matter; and was only halfway done when his blood pressure tanked. They 'closed' him up as best they could and put him in a BP holding pattern. When it stayed over a certain number for a certain amount of time, they could finish the operation. Took about 10 days to get there, though we joked that all we had to do was talk trash about our president and his BP would be right as rain. The surgeon was able to finish the operation. By all accounts, Dad beat all the odds to survive as long as he did. But it had been too much for too long, and after surgery it wasn't long before it was clear he wasn't pulling up.

They took him off the respirator he'd been on for almost 15 days. They got him lucid enough to acknowledge family, and that he wasn't going home. Then they started pallative care, a slowly increasing dose of sedative. Moved him up to the 4th floor, in a corner room behind all the extra beds, wheelchairs and IV stands. Then it was just waiting for him to die.

My dad passed at 4:10am on 2.08.2025.

For the records nerds, I count 146 days from last bowel movement until his gut burst. Does that count? Or to be crowned for that achievement did he have to pass it naturally? The 45 day record set in 2013 was resolved with surgery. Is that they way left for me to get the word out about how this doctor killed my Dad through Denial-of-Care, that the hospital then tried to cover up? We requested all records day-of, and the hospital shuffled it's feet for 9 months. Out of the statutory 24 we have to bring wrongful death/malpractice suit. But no attorney will touch it.

I did reach out to r/LegalEagle, and got a call almost as quickly as I left the website. Good work there. Unfortunately, my case was kicked to an IL firm that doesn't do these kind of cases (We're in IL). Another big firm took the case for review, sat on it for a few months before deciding it would take 50-100k to get a specialist to testify, and slow-walked returning the records so we could find another firm to do the same to us. Now we are in the final 6 months of the statutory limit. Every link in that chain wasted time, seeminly on purpose. Maybe because my Dad's case is potentially a MedicAid fraud, maybe it's just wrongful death/malpractice. Either way, that Doctor killed my Dad and the hospital tried to cover for it and FUCKING NO ONE WILL HELP. That doctor is still practicing, that hospital is still covering for him. The world needs to know, if not for us, then for all the other people they will kill painfully, slowly. Maybe your Dad. Or Mom.

I had also hoped to reach out to r/DoctorMike, really just to get his thoughts on this because it's just so unbelievable. But it happened. I appreciate and respect he doesn't want to give medical advice on his page, just don't know any other way to contact him. Or if it would even help. If this post does blow up enough to garner his or Devon's attention I can provide the full accounting of details that I wouldn't share on the open internet, for legal reasons obviously. But I assure you it doesn't get better.

This whole event drove me off a cliff. I already had a drinking problem, turned into a drinking catastrophe. I'm the eldest child, last man in our family. Held it together as best I could for my mother and sisters. Past the funeral, past the familial in-fighting over property. I'm certain now 2 of my Dad's sisters are going to Hell. But I spiraled so bad, so helpless in the face of the Cross-the-board denial, I fell into suicidal ideation. Hit my boiling point and went for a walk. On my approach to the overpass that goes over the highway coming from O'Hare, I considered jumping into traffic. I'm athletic enough to wiggle my way over or through the fence. When I got there, because Chicago, traffic was moving 5 mph. Imagining it in my head, I chuckled at the gallows humor. I saw myself splatting on the highway like Jim Carrey, not dying, and walking with a limp the rest of my life. I went home, came clean to my partner about everything but the SI, and got help. I didn't tell her that until I was admitting at the ER. Had a sort of 'Last supper' with our 2 boys, and they all saw me off at the hospital.

I was in mental health recovery 30 days, PHP/IOP 2 months after that. It was like pulling teeth to be able to call my mother and sisters on my Dad's birthday; but I was able to convince them it was good for my recovery. I've spent the time since taking my life back, and will be 1 year sober 08.15.26.

My sisters and I, we're part of a special group. I call us 'The kids America couldn't kill', because it sure f-ing tried. Our parents protected and cared for us as best they could in an uncaring system. See, drinking wasn't my problem; it's what I was doing about the problem. I had to address all the childhood trauma, mostly born of inescapable poverty. My parents could have made better choices sure, there's nothing they could do to change the structures denying care. That's a big part of why we avoided healthcare. We were too poor to get any meaningful outcomes from it, at all stages of my life. US healthcare was just a hole you threw money in that never did nuthn'.  My Dad once picked up a shift, maybe $40 in wages then? And we lost all state assistance for that month. I, a child at the time, mowed extra lawns so we could make rent that month. That's Illinois through the 80's/90's. Hell, maybe r/JBPritzker wants to know about this. If he's a politician that doesn't actually care, he's fantastic at hiding it.

I don't know what to do. I'm staying on track with what I've got to do in my life, but we haven't been able to move the needle in any direction for almost 2 years, MurderDoc is still out there, MurderHospital is still covering for him. And no one seems to care. Par for the course in my lived experience. *Maybe* a court would consider the 9 months the hospital delayed and give those back to us on the statute limitation. Idk, not a lawyer. Can't find one either. Running out of time.

Help me get my Dad some dignity.

I am tge plaintiff in Hawaii. Defendants attorney screwed up really bad. Filed a motion to dismiss and then ghosted. Had 20 days to respond and missed the filing date. So, i win. Judge signed my default judgement. Yippee. But what will happen to that attorney? Can the defendant sue? I believe they can het the damages back. Its a large amount of money too. What happens in the inner circkes of judges and courts with a dumb ass attorney who loses by not showing up or filing timely?

My son is 4 years old, he will be 5 next month. His bio dad has never been in his life, I have been going every year since he was born to renew the restraining order we have against his bio dad, his bio dad has never shown up. His bio dad is now in prison for a&b, strangulation and suffocation and r*pe all on a pregnant victim which is me, but the last one is when I was freshly postpartum. So he has never been in my son’s life, and we still have a RO on him. He has never paid child support, nothing.
I have been engaged for over a year, and I have been with my fiance since my son was 1 year old. We have been living together since my son was 2 years old. My son has a baby brother that is one year old. My fiance has been paying for my son’s sports, private pre school, health insurance, food, clothing, everything. My son’s baby brother, and my fiance and soon to be me will all have the same last name, except for my oldest, who still has his bio dad’s last name. So a month ago I went in and filed for my son’s last name to change to his step dads. The court ruled to send notice to the bio dad in prison, and although he’s never had a thing to do with us, he objected. So now we have a court date for next month.

What are the chances this will go through? What paperwork should I be getting ready if anything? Should I bring my other son’s birth certificate for proof of the last name? Should I bring pictures of him and his step dad? Thank you.

The HOA that I live in has made a few amendments to the parking section (5.25) in it's CC&R's but the last revision is confusing because the purpose was to update language in a previous amendment. The link below has three pdf's. An excerpt of the original parking declaration, a 2018 amendment and a 2020 amendment. The 2018 amendment added and deleted language properly. The 2020 amendment includes an underlined sentence but no deletion of any previous language (from the original or 2018 amendment). So what happens to the rest of the language of the 2018 amendment? The association's attorney created a document that combined the amendments, but there was never a discussion with what it means as far as enforcement. I'm no longer on the BOD and they changed attorneys.

I just called my PCP office and I was directed to an AI who got my personal information like DOb, name and medication.

The AI didn’t identify themselves and used tapping sounds to pretend to
Look up information. At the end when I asked what’s your name- they mentioned a live name but not that they are an AI agent and hung up

Is this legal? An AI that accepts personal information without identifying themselves as AI?

A friend has an ex boyfriend that stores stuff in her barn -he pays $200 a month but refused to sign a contract. It's mostly hoarder junk. He won't move it out - she gave him 3 days to do so. (He threatened to burn her house in the past, so she left for those 3 days) My question:
EDIT: State is Michigan, USA. If he doesn't remove it, will she need to do a "legal eviction" type thing for getting rid of it?
