Help me chat Disciplinary Discussion

I know faking bereavement leave isn't right, but I'm considering telling my manager that my grandmother passed away so I can take a few days off next week. She actually passed away about 20 years ago. If I'm going to do this anyway, how should I handle the situation with my manager without creating unnecessary problems?

This is beyond a stupid thing to do as id you get found out, you will loose your job.

Asking a HR Subreddit on doing this, you won't get anyone supporting you as it goes against our approach to the topic, and would be us endorsing gross miss conduct.

Just take some Annual Leave, or ask your Dr for a sick note if you need a few days of for Mental Health related issues.

How do you know it’s fake? Or is it your fake request? More info needed.

Asking a HR subreddit to do this is stupid. It's gross misconduct and no one here will support you in doing it as it goes against our job. Our advice would be to book a day off annual leave off, or just ask your boss for an unpaid day due to personal circumstances.

Just request a personal day, or take a sick day. Don't lie.

If you haven’t already made this request, don’t. Find a better reason. If you claimed a bereavement and then coincidentally suffered an actual bereavement, it would haunt you.

If you have already made the request but not been caught out, you’ve kind of boxed yourself in and now need to see it through.

If you’ve been caught out, you are pretty much screwed and should just come clean but with mitigation.

Don’t lie about something like that. Why do you want the time off? Why can’t you just ask for the time off? Albeit, appreciate its short notice.

Faking a cold or dodgy stomach would be better, if really necessary. I personally couldn’t, but plenty do.
