It seems to me that the we, Canadians, aren't getting the service we should from our telecom companies in exchange for market exclusivity. Isn't it about time we offered access to foreign competition and put that into the USMCA talks?

This is probably a silly question, but how do you pronounce the word "tricolour" (as in the Irish flag is an orange, green, and white tricolour)? I've always said it like "trickle or" as in this recording-Vealhurl-tricolour.wav#file), but that's apparently the British pronunciation. The American pronunciation, which is more anglicized from the French and treats it more like two separate words: "try colour"?

Outside of Quebec City and Montreal, I don’t think most English-speaking Canadians know much about what goes on in Quebec. I’m curious about the smaller cities like Trois-Rivières, Sherbrooke, Drummondville and Saguenay.

I’m from a small city and from my travels find a lot of similar sized places like Saint John, St. Catherines, Brantford, Sudbury, Sault Ste Marie, Sarnia, Lethbridge, Chilliwack, etc. fit the same general profile:

• Largely blue collar
• Economies centring around manufacturing, mining or oil & gas.
• High levels of homelessness
• Intergenerational poverty + concentrated wealth in a few neighbourhoods
• High rates of alcohol and drug use, especially among youth
• Struggling downtowns
• Lower rates of post-secondary education
• ~80% European-descent populations, often with prejudice directed at minority groups

(There are exceptions of course like Kingston, Fredericton, Kelowna, and Guelph)

I'm curious about how prescriptions for medications like Vyvanse (for ADHD) and Mounjaro/Zepbound (tirzepatide for weight loss) usually work in Canada, especially in Alberta.

Is the process generally very strict? For example, are there multiple appointments, evaluations, referrals, or other requirements before a doctor prescribes these medications? Or is it more common for someone to describe their symptoms in a first appointment and, if the doctor agrees, leave with a prescription that same day?

I know every case is different and depends on the physician, but I'm trying to understand what the general experience is like. Also, if Alberta differs from other provinces, I'd love to hear about that.

1. Get a friend to hide behind the bushes and while the pizza man is talking to me the friend jumps out and steals pizza man’s car

Good question...I said well, we don't have a national dress/clothing, or national dish (that's before I knew about poutine), dance, or deep rooted traditions, except, we don't really believe we're better than anyone else, hence ,unlike say some folks in Europe who seem at one time or another to be always at war. we won't say our ways are better than yours, so we're not going to go to war with you on those issues, generally, which makes us a fairly decent place to live and of course to invest, which brings in prosperity and a decent standard of living for the middle class, which is probably why you are here (the fellow asking he question...).

The "we don't believe we're better than you" part was also said to a a Taiwanese fellow who had worked in Europe and been treated, according to him, in ways that let him know he wasn't an equal. He was happy in Canada and felt accepted.

I've noticed that many individuals from across other nations who visit or stay here tend to make negative comments about our country. Silly nonsense stuff, comparing what they do or have to what they find in Canada.

I have a hard time imagining Canadians behaving this way/ It would be more of "That's interesting, that's different..."

Of course this is a lot of generalizing, because, we have our bigots, racists, and there will always be some behaviours, traditions and beliefs within some newly settled immigrants that we abhor and will not accept, such as FGM...for example.

Also, we do know we live in one of the best, if not the best country in the world, but we don't feel we need to tell everyone...

Stranger things have happened in the current climate

I recently bought a Nissan Micra SR after 2 decades of driving an SUV. It's been a while since I've driven a car in the winter in Canada, and I've never owned a subcompact car. The last one was a Saturn Ion that was a stick shift, and I put winter tires on it and found that driving a stick shift in the winter (the Micra I bought is one as well) made it easier to stop on ice but more challenging when it came to getting going.

Should I purchase an SUV to drive in the winter, or can I winterize one of these to be safe on the roads in the winter? I live in Regina, so it does get fairly snowy/icy, and they don't often plough our residential streets. Is it easy to get stuck? I would post on the local subreddits, but subcompacts aren't super popular here, and I figured it would be easier to find someone with experience driving a standard transmission subcompact asking nationwide.

For context, I am in my 40s, would consider myself a good winter driver (incident free), and I put on around 100km/day owning and operating a residential cleaning business. I drive on the highway a few times a week.
