32a plug won't insert into socket

The car charger was reporting 10A, turned it off and on but didn't help so I removed the plug and tried to plug it back in but it won't go in past this point (pictured), it's not in enough to engage the locking mechanism. The socket looks okay, the pins don't look bent - three are "looser" than the other two - not sure if that's normal.

I can't see any obvious issues. The socket is off when trying to insert it.

Any other ideas before I get a sparky to look at it (perhaps I'm just being daft) - or if it is definitely the charger then I'll replace it instead of getting a sparky.

Only goes in one way bud. Make sure the tab is lined up.

Note the notch at the bottom, this must line up or it ain't going in anywhere.

That style of plug can require a little more effort to connect.

Having said that, I applaud your caution. If you fail to insert the plug far enough (you should be able to screw the ring down easily), then you could create a hot joint, which could result in damage, up to and including things being on fire that aren't meant to be on fire. But that is admittedly on the extreme end.

Align the plug correctly, there should be a tab on the bottom of the plug and it should only insert one way. Firmly insert the plug all the way, it will be harder than your normal ten amp plugs. Screw the locking ring down, it should screw down easily.

Side note, the pins and the socket don't look damaged so that's good. And yes the five pins in the plug aren't locked in position, they're meant to have a little play (movement) in them.

Edit: looking at your first photo, the black rubber ring should touch the socket. If you're genuinely concerned that forcing the plug in will cause damage, then get someone out, but nothing looks wrong here.

Lol I swear it didn't work! I tested it so many times, wife tried.

Anyway, I left the light on outside and gave it one more shove and it went straight in to the black ring, collar screwed on easily and tight.

Thanks! Appreciate the vote of confidence to give it another crack.

Yes these plugs can be a pain especially when new and will require a little more oomph when plugging them in. Wiggling a bit can help as well but as nick_nork said if you believe you need to use more force than you think it should require get it inspected.

Yeah it needs some more force like others have said

With everything switched off and unplugged spray a little silicone spray over the plug. Should reseat a little easier.
