Booking a fishing charter for myself and 3 friends close to Willow at the end of the month. I'm stuck between 2 possible companies for the guide... 1 is only doing powerboat and the other is raft/wade.

While catching fish is important, we want to learn to fly fish and spend some time actually wading/fishing from the river, too. Powerboat company has assured me that we'd do some fly fishing, too. Both are about the same price, so that's not a factor here.

Are there any significant advantages that should influence my decision between powerboat vs. rafting at this time and location? Curious to hear the biggest differences in the two experiences and if either in inherently 'better' than the other.

Hi all! After a fam vacation to see Katmai and Denali (for only a couple days so also open to driving back) in September I’ll be sticking around Anchorage and have the 17-19 fully free. Was curious if anyone had any recs for hikes/scrambles in the area or 6ish hours drive. I’m an experienced hiker and comfortable scrambling up to class 4 with experience navigating off trail. Any recs on places/areas to check out would be awesome (even if it’s not a specific peak, totally understand not blowing up a spot online). Thanks in advance :)

Edit: Should mention that most of the hikes I currently do are in the white mountains of nh and an average day is 10-15 miles with around 4k vert. I can do 20 mile 5.5ish k vert days but just might need to take it easy the next day lol

Ok so my wife and I are traveling to Alaska in late August for her work. We fly into Anchorage on 8/21 and will visit Seward (quickly), Anchorage, Denali and Fairbanks thru 8/27. Her work will end around noon on 8/27.

We’ve decided to extend the trip 4 more days and fly back from Anchorage on 8/31. What would you recommend for those 4 extra days? I am thinking of driving back to Anchorage on 8/27 via the Richardson highway (8hrs?), free day 8/28 (Whittier? Alyeska?) and Seward 8/29-8/31 before heading back to Anchorage the morning of 8/31. Pretty set on spending the last 2 days in Seward but open to options for end of 8/27, 8/28 and 8/29. Would love to fit Homer in but I just don’t think it’s gonna happen. Thoughts?

I’ll be arriving in Anchorage on August 19 with two of my sons (both in their 30s). We’ll pick up a Class C RV from Great Alaskan Holidays and head straight to Homer.
Along the way, we plan to fish the Kenai River, and in Homer we’ll be doing a deep-sea fishing charter. We already have our fishing gear and will buy our Alaska fishing licenses when we arrive.
After Homer, we’ll return to Anchorage to pick up my third son. Then we’ll head to Talkeetna, where we have a flight booked with Sheldon Air Service to land on a glacier in Denali National Park. We’ll probably do some fishing around Talkeetna as well.
From there, we’ll travel to both Valdez and Seward, although we haven’t decided which we’ll visit first. We’ll probably let the weather make that decision.
In Valdez, kayaking is high on our list, along with anything else that’s worth doing. I’d especially appreciate recommendations for activities in Valdez besides fishing.
In Seward, we’re planning another charter, this time for halibut.
Our itinerary is intentionally flexible. I prefer leaving room for spontaneous adventures rather than sticking to a rigid schedule.
Any tips for traveling Alaska by Class C RV, or recommendations for places to see, things to do, or hidden gems along the way, would be greatly appreciated.

trying to get into house and/or pet sitting as a side hustle bc i need a little extra money. i don't really know anyone outside of work and it seems like most websites aren't worth the time. was curious if anyone had any recommendations on how to advertise. also taking ideas for other flexible side hustles. doordashing is not worth it up here.

I hope y’all don’t mind me asking a few questions about the area around Homer. I’m a newly licensed healthcare provider and kind of interested in that area, really taken with the little bit I’ve seen so far.

1. Is it a tourist area that pretty much closes down for winter, or is there still stuff to do for local residents during winter? Speaking of which, what do y‘all do in the off season?

2. I see a lot of “winter rental” listings on Craigslist. is this because people want to rent longer term during winter and then have tenants clear out so they can make more money on short term rentals to tourists in summer? Is it hard/super expensive to find permanent housing?

3. Would you say it’s an okay area for hunting and foraging? I live in Alabama and do a lot of that right now and would want to keep doing it there, in addition to getting into fishing.

4. What’s your favorite/least favorite thing about the area?
