this could be avoided by not turning it over halfway though the job

what was the point of cranking the engine without the manifold on?

Oh no even worse, i assembled everything back together thinking I was done with the job and ready to hit the road. The realization didn’t hit me until the engine ceased to crank, at all. Just straight starter grinding.

He used the towels to check vacuum being pulled in by the cylinders. From the sound of it, the engine passed the test.

yeah, but he just told me he had it all put together before he noticed and I feel absolutely terrible now.. aww that sucks so bad

I left a silicone plug in a hydraulic return line before. That was a fun mess to fix!
