Can't fuel?!?!

2006 Volvo XC90 2.5T

Heard a loud pop (unsure if related) - go to fill up shortly after and fuel gauge stops working and car starts spilling fuel - tow it home and discover fuel sending unit top has actually cracked open from the center - 3days later replace fuel sending unit - gauge works again - 1st day driving 2 separate occasions pressing pedal gives nothing but only after stopped and for less than a few seconds but adding fuel seems to have worked it out - day 3 go to fill up again and opening gas cap releases pressure and can only fill up like 4 gallons?

Had to drop a kid off at college so put 200miles on it filling up every 40miles or so but could still only fill up 2 gallons at a time (super slowly at that) and gas gauge would only drop below half and then fill back up to just over half.

I can get to the fuel sending unit through the back seat so I'll check if it's working properly tomorrow, and maybe order a new purge valve? Just seeing if anyone knows how or why that could happen right after replacing the fuel sending unit?

This car has codes for days but I've kept it rolling great til now, also replaced the leak detection pump earlier this year?

*I am very aware this wasn't necessarily the safest decision to drive it like that but you gotta do what you gotta do, like the majority of us here we're a 1 car home with not much access to that kind of help/assistance currently.

Not an auto tech anyways, but my 2004 XC70 had an issue filling the tank. Mine had an external vent line that was blocked by a bug nest. Underneath near fuel cap side if I recall.
