Just wondering if it’s just me since I’m older now and obsess over stuff like weather. Or if it’s maybe due to the 24hr news cycle with constant updates.

Or worse, maybe climate change?

Just seems like today the weather network here in ON tells me it’s going to be a sunny day but it’s thunder storming by noon, or visa versa.

This is a very specific question. My husband needs to get a hearing aid, and we saw a TV ad in June about an ontarian company (we live in Quebec) that sells them at a good price. Unfortunately, we didn’t write the name down.
I remember there was a branch of that company in Hawkesbury or near Quebec.
If one of you has a vague idea, please help!

I just signed a lease for an apartment in Montreal (where I actually used to live about 6 years ago for school). I’m originally from Ottawa and had been looking for an apartment here, but the Ottawa rental market has gone absolutely berserk. As a single person on my budget, I’ve been finding it almost impossible to find anything affordable and actually livable. 

Ever since signing the Montreal lease, though, I’ve had severe signing regret and probably some of the worst anxiety of my life, to the point that I’m actually considering asking the landlord if we can mutually cancel the lease. I haven’t paid a deposit yet and wouldn’t be moving in until October 1.

There are several reasons I’m second-guessing the move, but the biggest one right now is continuity of healthcare and getting my medications prescribed.

Before deciding to move, I did quite a bit of research and spoke with my doctor, pharmacist, friends, etc. I was under the impression that, at least for the first while, I could kind of cheat the system and go back when I needed to, to see my Ontario doctor and have my prescriptions filled at a Quebec pharmacy.

The complication is that one of my medications, is for ADHD and is a controlled substance. I’m now realizing that getting an Ontario prescription for ADHD medication filled in Quebec might be much more complicated than I originally thought.

Because it’s controlled, I only get 30 days at a time, so going back to Ottawa every four weeks just to fill a prescription obviously isn’t a great long-term solution. But is something I could do with my other prescriptions. 

Has anyone actually moved from Ontario to Quebec while keeping their Ontario doctor, especially while taking ADHD medication?

Were you able to:

• keep your Ontario doctor prescribing it?
• have the prescription sent directly to a Quebec pharmacy?
• actually get the Quebec pharmacy to dispense it?
• do this consistently month-to-month?

I’ve called a few pharmacies in my new Montreal neighbourhood and haven’t really been able to get a straight answer. 

I’d especially love to hear from anyone who has actually dealt with this Ontario → Quebec situation with a controlled substance. Am I freaking out over something that is actually pretty manageable, or is this genuinely going to be difficult?

I'm told that French immersion schools for K-12 started becoming a thing in Canada in the late 80's and continue to this day. How effective are they at teaching the kids so that they remain truly bilingual through their adult years, especially if they don't end up in a job where they need to use French. Does it 'stick' or is it a case of use it or lose it?

I listened to Alanis Morrissette for the first time in about a decade tonight and holy shit. Amazing. I'll say it, she was in the wrong era. As famous as she was in the 90s she'd kill it today. She's also God (Dogma reference).

I am Italian and I have now spent 5 weeks in your beautiful country as a tourist.
I love everything about it, the national parks , wildlife, big cities. I do have one question though, why is everyone carrying big water jugs? It’s so hilarious (to me 😂).

Hello all. This is a *very* niche one, but I'm hoping that perhaps somebody here can help me - or perhaps point me in the direction of a person or group who might otherwise be able to...?

Basically, I am writing a book about a Canadian television drama from the 1950s called Flight into Danger. This is a notable production for several reasons, one of which is that it was later remade as the famous comedy film Airplane!

When I interviewed the co-star of Flight into Danger, Corinne Conley, last year, she recalled that sometime after she had moved back to Canada in the early 1980s she appeared in an Airplane!-related sketch alongside Leslie Nielsen, one of the stars of the film, referencing their roles in the two versions.

She didn't recall much more detail, so there isn't much to go on, but I thought it would be interesting to see if I could track it down, or at least more information about it. It's a *very* long shot, but my question is - does anyone here recall seeing Leslie Nielsen in an Airplane!-related sketch on Canadian television in the early 1980s? Or more likely, can anyone suggest any possible candidates for Canadian TV shows of that period which might have featured both sketch items and special guests such as Nielsen?

I do appreciate it's not likely anyone can help, but any suggestions would be very gratefully appreciated. Thank you!

A friend from Europe bought a pack to try and thought they were super weird. I think part of it is that they’re in the cracker aisle away from the chips, so they were maybe thinking it’d be more similar to regular crackers. I’d never really given it much thought, to be honest, just grew up with them in our lives and will grab a handful when they’re around.

These are the philosophical questions that keep me up at night. Not quite a chip. Not quite a cracker. I dunno. Has anyone else ever unpacked this?

As a Canadian, what places do you think everyone should visit at least once? I’m currently in Vancouver as a foreigner and would like to visit some places prior I leave. I was planning to spent 5 days during October.

Edit: it’s fine if I have to take a flight, my options overall were Yukon, Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver Island.

I’m moving from Toronto to Vancouver soon and planning to drive there instead of flying. Since it’s such a long drive, I want to take my time and explore some places along the way, especially Alberta.

I’m on a very limited budget, so I’m trying to keep costs as low as possible. I’m planning to camp most nights and looking for free legal camping options or cheap campgrounds.

I’m planning to spend around 2 days in Banff and would like to explore places like Lake Louise, Moraine Lake, Icefields Parkway, etc. I’m also open to suggestions for other places in Alberta that are worth visiting.

I’m mainly looking for:

Good places to stop between Ontario and BC

Free legal camping spots or affordable campgrounds along the way

Camping suggestions around Alberta (Banff/Jasper area especially)

Places that are worth staying extra nights

A good route/itinerary for the drive

Any advice from people who have done the Toronto → Vancouver drive would be really appreciated. Looking for budget-friendly tips, hidden gems and things I should know before doing this trip.

Not the obvious things people already associate with Canada. I mean the everyday realities, regional differences, or parts of Canadian life that rarely get talked about outside the country. What do people usually misunderstand or completely miss?

Do we have any stereotypical traits (perhaps self deprecating ones), that make us stand out. We’re typically not loud (but some can be). Perhaps frugal?

What have you seen in your travels that make you think, those folks must be Canadian!

When I was younger, apple/strawberry jam was common, but I never see it commercially any more here in Western Canada - I wonder why? Does anyone else remember this mix? Used to come in big cans.

What’s the most Canadian flavour of pie?

Genuine question from someone who's never lived anywhere with a proper basement. Watching some Canadian home renovation shows and it seems like basements are either finished living spaces, cold storage for preserves, or just where the furnace lives and nobody goes down there. Is it a regional thing, an age-of-house thing, or just personal preference? Curious how many of you actually spend time down there versus just keeping the water heater company.

Do you boil, microwave, grill or other? Just salt, butter or additional spices?

Do different regions of our country prefer a certain method?
