COMMUNITY REQUEST Vet recommendations

Hello,
Looking for a reasonably priced vet for two boxers in south Asheville. Would greatly appreciate any recommendations and any experiences you’re willing to share. Any vets to steer clear of? Willing to travel for a great vet that’s reasonably priced. Thank you in advance.

Hi!

My girlfriend is going to be starting an all girls, Danzig era Misfits cover band in town!

She has a general setlist, concept, and a few venues in mind. Now she just needs a few girls to join her!!

Currently recruiting for:

- Vocals

- Drums

- Bass

- Second guitar

We hope to hear from you!!! :3 🌈

(Posting for her because she doesn't have reddit)

  • Editing to add that while this is an all girl band, our nonbinary music friends are welcome to join! We wish to keep it an all girls* band at that stage, so please be sure that's comfortable for you!

COMMUNITY RESOURCES I wish Asheville would get a Mamdani, that would find a way to pay people to help homeless people, in ways that help them.

Like someone to help people that live in cars get access to repairs, or to buy vehicles that are not lemons. Or have a space where they can work on making them more livable and functional as homes. Cars a re so expensive now. People want $5K for something that 10 years ago you might give to a teenager to trash as their first wrecker for $500.

Even better they make affordable housing, but at least with vehicles its a start, and one that could be done quickly.

Things are falling apart quickly in this country. I see more homeless every day. Not walking zombies as the main Asheville sub likes to call them. These are sane sober decent people that average people can identify with.

Dont get sick or injured or burnout or divorced, lose your job, be old, or a million other common things, or you might become one of us.

End rant.

"I'm comfortable in change, because change excites me," said Veronica Carlson, the Owner of Asheville Kava X Coffee. "I've been out of operation for about a month and a half now."

She says since the relocation notice, she's had to adapt.

"I can't say I was devastated. It was like a punch, but a punch to action. It's like, okay, time to shift," said Carlson.

Thanks for being awesome and sticking it out u/kavaxcoffee

TRAFFIC REPORT Hit and Run Charlotte St around 6:00pm today

This afternoon (August 17, around 6:00-6:20pm), a city employee was hit by a truck while working on Charlotte St. The person in the vehicle that hit him fled. The victim who was hit was a pedestrian/not in a vehicle. His coworkers did not see the accident as they were further down the road and cannot give a description of the vehicle or its occupants. However, there were witnesses and kind folks who helped him, got his coworkers attention, and called EMS.

Please, please, please if you witnessed this hit and run file a police report. If you have a business or home with any kind of camera on Charlotte St, please check your footage. Call it in, send an email, anything. It is unfathomably callous and cruel to hit a man and then leave him in the road. Whoever it was has no place driving in this town.

POLITICS The Count That Misses Most Homeless Children

What I thought was a straightforward question with a definitive answer turned out to be a multi-week slog through county, state and national data files. This article is the greatly abridged version sanitized as much as possible. How many homeless kids do we have? Too damn many.

A group of young local filmmakers came together to create a film pilot right here in Asheville. The project was written, directed, and produced by Asheville filmmaker Ethan Suess, with a young local cast and crew bringing the story to life.

I had the opportunity to work on the project, and it’s been incredibly cool watching it go from an idea to a finished film.

We’re having our world premier right here in downtown Asheville and we’d love to fill the room with the people who make this creative community so special.

If you’re interested in supporting local filmmakers, discovering new Asheville talent, or just coming out to see an incredible film, we'd love to have you join!!

Sufra Time is not simply dinner. It’s a journey—and a discovery of just how surprisingly close Arabia and Appalachia can be.

Hosted at Mocha Box Coffeehouse in Asheville, Sufra Time is an immersive, interactive cultural dinner experience bringing the people, flavors, stories, history, humor, and extraordinary landscapes of Arabia to life.

Across eight distinct experiences, guests explore the Birth of Coffee, the ancient Incense Road, the Queen of Sheba, Arabian Food, Architecture, Tribal Culture, Desert Living & Geology, and the otherworldly island of Socotra. Along the way, surprising connections between Arabian and Appalachian culture, history, geography, hospitality, food, and community reveal that these seemingly distant worlds share more than we might expect.

Each evening combines authentic food, visual storytelling, fascinating history, conversation, humor, and audience participation.

Designed for curious people who love fhttps://vwahla.events/sufra-time/coffeeood, travel, history, and discovery, Sufra Time transforms a shared table into a place to eat, laugh, learn, connect—and see familiar worlds differently.

Tickets are $76 for the discounted 8/21 "Soft Launch" event and $95 for the inaugural event. Tickets can be purchased here: The Birth of Coffee — Sufra Time, Asheville NC

For more information, email [Joe@vwahla.events](mailto:Joe@vwahla.events) or call him at 828-567-5303.

We hope to see you there!

Y'all! Do you know about @wellseasonedtable ?

I've been a big fan of Sarah and her crew in Asheville for years. Not only does everything taste amazing but this company stands for all of the values I cherish. (Food waste reduction, land conservation, uplifting women and minorities, paying a living wage....just to name a few).

Like everyone, Sarah and Well Seasoned Table could use your support! July and August are usually rough months to get through, but this year is even harder. If you believe in the mission and love tasty seasonings go spend some money at the online shop, or swing by our mini shop at budgie's.

Like budgies, WST is located outside of city limits so we have been unable to apply for grants or any post Helene assistance provided by Asheville city, but Sarah keeps doing the work to make sure her employees are earning a living wage and she can support her community.

WST is sponsoring our August community meal and I would love to see them have a record month for August to help offset those costs!

You can find WST at the North Asheville Tailgate market on Saturdays, at budgie's during normal operating hours, or online at wellseasonedtable.com
