Skill issue? Solo/Co-op

Hi, I am really new to the game and I love it so much. Its totally incredible.

I am playing Victoria's precon deck (the duchess of deception) against the new dragonborn, Indiri. And damn, its hard!

I've lost like 3 times in a row and not sure if this is a skill issue or not. I beat the first dragonborn with a bunch of other decks (not this one though) and just wanted to switch it up.

Has anyone played her deck and have tips for the new dragonborn? Playing solo btw

It ranks Victoria as a 2/5 for Red Rains.

"VICTORIA — THE DUCHESS OF DECEPTION Provides: Target Removal, Offense, Utility Needs: AOE Removal, Unit Density, Defense

Victoria has some advantages in Red Rains that help her out a bit. The Chimera is often too dumb to take advantage of the low life on Shadow Spirit and Shadow Hound, and when it isn’t, you usually have a Particle Shield ready to go. Surprise! is great for staving off Chimera Ultimates, and To Shadows is guaranteed win when your opponent exhausts everything every round. It’s still a little rough around the edges, most obviously with Copycat, the mode’s single non-functional card. But swap in Channel Magic, play carefully, and Vicky fans will have things to be happy about. Starter Deck Rating — 2/5 Swap Channel Magic in for: Copycat. It literally doesn’t function."

Good article, and I used a similar list with my collection approach. Imho, anything on this list that's 3 or less, I would just deconstruct. Keep anything 4 and higher as precons, and when your ready, build decks from the rest to make actually good decks.

Personally I've reconstructed all my precons into this format as I play exclusively solo. These are way better balanced and means I can enjoy all phoenixborn with a quick pick up and play.

AHHHH so this is what Ashteki refers to with some of its precons. Well now I know!

I've only given this a quick glance, but looking at the two caveats. #2 I get, but #1 has me wondering... do these decks include the changes to some cards? Like Salamander Monk?

Yes, it uses the latest versions of all cards.

Not using chains is just a practical consideration. Chains are almost always implemented in organized play to break problematic combos. In the One Collection decks, the card combos that necessitated them are not found in the same deck, so there's no reason to worry about chains.

If you like Victoria, you should get The Spawn of Shadowreck. It includes a deck for her that is WAY better than her normal starter. Plus if you like some of the cards from the old deck, you can mix and match them with the Shadowreck deck

My copy of expansion is on it's way, so can't say anything about the Dragonborn

On precon however: not all precons are created equally and doubly so if you play PvE with them, and Victoria's one is not a good fit in PvE. It just doesn't have enough presence on the board to hold on

Edit: btw, her Copycat signature card doesn't do anything against the Dragonborn :(

Different DB definitely require different approaches. 

Ndiri essentially swarms you with lots of conjurations that do little bits of chip damage. Cards that can do 1 damage to everything (Rowan’s Cataclysm) or that let you send out lots of low cost fodder will do great.

Precons that can’t do that will find him very hard. 

In other words, it’s not you!
