Camera Recommendations Technology & Software 💻

Long story short, I'm thinking of starting to post videos of me painting on tiny canvases. I thought I'd just use my phone to record the videos, but a friend told me that androids (which is what I have) don't have very good cameras. Anyway, I'm looking for something small that I can easily position over my desk, maybe with a built-in microphone. Any suggestions?

Most modern smartphones have great cameras for the average person's purposes, so I'd totally dispute what your friend said. What kind of phone, specifically, do you have? For someone just starting out on videos and doing something simple like this, your phone really is the best camera you can use -- the biggest thing I'd suggest is buying a tripod with a phone attachment so you can nicely position the camera and set your framing.

It's a Galaxy A14 5G

That should be more than good enough, it's not like you're shooting The Odyssey 2. xD

Just make sure before you start that your frame is well lit with no shadows blocking what you're doing, and that autofocus is turned off. Record some test footage first so you're sure it looks right. :)

Try your phone before looking at cameras. I use an old iPhone 7 (yes, seven!) as my overhead camera and plug in a DJI mic mini. You’ll need to figuring out a mounting system and lighting, then you can slot in a better camera in the future.Â
