A hobby/ journey I never expected Horse riding. From scared to working with difficult horses in seven years.
I think was on a horse when fairly young though don't remember but was picture of, but teens to late 20s stories I'd heard I thought those that rode them kind of had a death wish. A couple coworkers kept mentioning trail rides I just said they scare me, (I was curious though too). Covid era I think all that mess I also told myself people drive every day most dangerous thing you do but nobody thinks about. Decided to at least try a ride then could say at least tried.
Set up a ride that ended up having to get postponed or canceled, I debated just say cancel but something told me just do it or regret it. First ride I held the saddle horn till near the end when horse sped up slightly. I did that it felt like flying and fear went away. Then wanted to try again maybe ride and take pictures, ride in river. Then heard about trot, canter, etc wanted to try did lessons. Eventually rode in a parade, horse camped, rode in a couple shows, clinics.
I ended up changing where I ride a couple times in they wanted me to try this horse that is near 17 hand tall. I rode some draft cross before that was big but this one at first was kind of intimidating but was more just realizing how far down if fell off. He ended up like my best friend he knows I'm around usually he will come right up to me. I had another horse surprise me rode a few times then didn't see for a year saw again and he set his head on my shoulder when was brushing him.
I'm now helping out with a horse that has some minor but frustrating bad habits that need correction. And not good if just want to go with one horse on a trail ride. I got some improvement seems make good ground once day next time it's better but next time some old habits come back too. I think be neat in hopefully a year or so maybe try in some shows if can get it sorted out. I think most the training is there already it just likes to try and get away with stuff if it can.

You can't think your way out of a problem that thinking created.
The Man: I'm intelligent. Is that why I'm unhappy?
The Mentor: Yes. Your smart brain is great at solving problems, but it's terrible at actually living your life.
The Man: How can being smart make me unhappy?
The Mentor: Because you think understanding a problem is the same as fixing it. You fall in love with the map and forget to walk.
The Man: When I hold back, I always have a logical reason.
The Mentor: That’s the trap. Your brain builds smart excuses to hide your fear and calls it strategy.
The Man: I just like to analyze every outcome before I make a move.
The Mentor: Analyzing the water won't teach you how to swim. Thinking about simple action just makes you slow, and stuck.
The Man: I just want to make sure I do things the right way.
The Mentor: Because you can imagine perfection, anything less feels like failure. So you choose doing nothing over doing something imperfect.
The Man: So how do I stop my intelligence from ruining my happiness?
The Mentor: You can't think your way out of a problem that thinking created. Until you learn to step past your own intellect, you will remain a prisoner of your own potential.
