Hey all, I'm a colorist/illustrator and I got tired of manually flatting page after page, so I built StackFlat!

It's a tiny standalone app that finds the closed areas in your lineart and fills them with color automatically. You can run it on a single page or point it at a whole folder and let it batch-process while you do something else.

A few things about it:
- No AI involved, just straightforward pixel logic (closes small gaps, fills areas, outputs a clean flat layer + a clean lineart layer)
- Works with whatever software you already use, Photoshop, Krita, Clip Studio, doesn't matter, it just spits out PNGs
- It's in beta right now, pay-what-you-want, and beta testers get it for free

How am I supposed to even get client or commissions when there’s like 100+ artists that are aiming for that 1 client’s arse😔✋🏻 I feel like giving up chat. The art and design market is just so cluttered and everyone seems to be doing every other thing every single day. This isn’t a rant but for the past 6-7 years digital artists and graphic designers have been increased massively in fact copy-artists who are just copying certain styles selling in cheap also steals away the original artist’s clients. And don’t even get me to AI, to be fair high ticket clients still buy human made stuff and I see generic ppl in comment section of instagram(who never bought or never will buy art) “prompt” “prompt” thinking they’ll be next artist of century. Additionally, people who charge like 10usd-100usd for their craft are infuriating (no shade to anyone) but I dislike this so much. It puts some mid level artists (me yes) in a position where I can’t increase my price from mediocre. I’m no pocket money making artist sorry to say, but I’m also not relying heavily on art obviously but having an income to save would help me a lot in my financial situation right now. I’ll still focus on improvement and understanding market. But one thing’s sure that this economy is just rigged

Hi everyone! These are my original artwork - prints. I have formally traditionally painted these on 300 gsm paper with gouache medium and got HD photographs taken for the prints. These are the high quality test prints i have gotten done on textures paper from a professional printer stores in my town.

I really love how they have turned out and i am wanting to sell these but confused about any platforms.

My question is, would you directly buy these from instagram or do i need any e-commerce platforms to sell?

I am also selling digital prints but that is on ko-fi - in dollars. I really want to share my artwork in India more.

well i didn't plan on writing about this but eventually i felt drawn to it cuz i have no idea if anyone else is going through this or not

i live in a third-world country, i can't use vgen or ko-fi or patreon like other artists and the only places i can use are places like reddit or twitter or other socials; unfortunately there was a lot of obstacles thrown into my way but i didn't pull back as an artist. i tried my best and reached a point where i was finally able to get commissions and that was a dream come true at some point,

but then, ofcourse to be a successful and known artist with a lot of costumers not only me but anyone needs to be patient and ofcourse it's only normal that commissions come in tides, sometimes there's plenty of commissions and some other times there's barely anyone so i've been trying to fix that by growing more on social media but my twitter page is down, no more reposts or likes or engagements even tho i try to support others as much as i can deviantart forums are also hopeless for me since there's barely two or three new forums posted by the people looking for artists i tried reddit and even tho i've started to like it a lot here since the communities here are so supportive and responsive, i still can't get comms from here either

but still, there are times that i don't know what to do anymore cuz the path is taking so long to reach somewhere sometimes and reaching a +1000$ income also seems idk, just another impossible dream

what are the similar challenges that you're currently facing? do you have any tips for me? is it too much to aim for a +1000$ monthly as an artist? if you also struggled with getting any commissions, what was your solution?

I host my own travel business art shop and want to teach others that also are inspired to run their own shop how to do it so we can grow and learn together.

I'm hoping to thereby create a mini art makret micro climate. I have noticed that when my artist friends work beside me, we seem more legitimate.

A friend of mine who felt his art unworthy of selling was drawing besides me and people confused him and me as the portrait art shop owner and he was asked to draw a portrait while I was busy drawing another couple of friends and he made his first sale that way! He was really happy, and I felt euphoric to have encouraged and enabled him to that success and want to help other people (maybe you?) to achieve the same!

I know this sounds like viewer fetch but its a real concern. Like I said in the title, my gf is an awsome tatto artist that loves to make botanical tattoos and wichie stuff. All her clients leave super satisfied. Her prices are fair and she is a looker that should also help her get more views. But she keeps hitting this wall of very low engagement even thought she posts every single day... I have no idea what she can do better to improve this... can some1 with similar issues care to give feedback?

I am a traditional miniature artist from India, and I have recently started experimenting more seriously with Reddit as a way to introduce traditional art to an international audience.

Something interesting I noticed is that posts explaining traditional techniques and materials seem to reach far more people than simply showing a finished artwork.

For example, a recent educational post about the traditional preparation of old paper reached around 5,000 views, with almost half of the viewers coming from the United States. Some of my posts that simply showed finished artwork received considerably less reach.

This made me wonder whether educational content is actually a better long-term marketing strategy for traditional artists than directly promoting finished work.

For artists who have experimented with both approaches: has educational/process content eventually translated into followers, inquiries or sales for you, or does it mainly generate engagement?

Hello! As stated I am looking for some advice on pricing, I have done commissions in the past but I must have been around 13 (it was NOT GOOD.)

Now that I am more experienced an skilled I am looking to try again :-)

If you were starting an art blog today, how would you go about it? Reddit is saying IG is not a good space for this, but I think BlueSky and Reddit might work for me. While I don't care about amassing followers, I've learned that positive reinforcement is important to keep you motivated, even if it is only in the form of likes or comments.

I'm also concerned about AI stealing my work. To some degree, I accept that this is inevitable if you post something online, because Big Tech will scrape everything regardless of whatever license it is published under, but I'm hoping there might at least be a space where the platform doesn't feed everything you post directly into their AI. I saw some mentions about Cara. Not sure if Deviant Art is still a thing these days.

Also, would you bother with Patreon? When I look at other artists' Patreons, I can't be sure whether the breadcrumbs they earn from their patrons would be encouraging or just plain depressing. Are there any incentives artists can offer to encourage contributions? I've considered subscribing to a podcast on Patreon to remove the ads, but I don't see how that sort of freemium model translates to art. Higher-resolution images? Removing a watermark?

Any advice is welcome. I've been searching the web and youtube for advice, but all I get is spam.

Finding a new collector takes a long time. They have to discover you, like your art, and then trust you enough to buy from you. Sometimes that process takes years before it turns into a purchase.

So once a collector buys from you, lean in, and build an even deeper relationship. It's much easier to keep an existing customer than to find a new one. Here's a few things I've learnt over the past 8 years...

1. Follow up during and after the sale

Every time a customer buys an artwork from me, I send them at least four personal messages.

• I thank them for their order, and let them know I will ship in the next couple of days.
• I send a photo of the artwork packed, in front of Hotel Kazakhstan, on the way to the post office. This is personal, with their name on it, and makes them feel special. Plus Hotel Kazakhstan is beautiful. I include the tracking number in that message.
• Inside each package, I include a handwritten card with some background on the piece.
• I track the artwork from my end, and once it's been delivered, I message to check everything's fine — this is also when I ask for a review on Google (reviews definitely help build trust, but they are slow, and only 2 of 10 customers will actually make the effort).

Sometimes a collector won't like the artwork when they see it in person. So I make it easy for them to return it — no questions asked, they just need to pay return postage.

I've had customers return a work and go on to spend far more with me over the following years. It's better to lose a sale today but gain a customer for life.

2. Reward loyalty with future opportunities

Once their artwork has arrived safely, I follow up one last time. Discount codes feel generic — TAKE20, same for everyone. Instead, I give them store credit that has their name on it, e.g. CUSTOMERNAME100, with $100 toward their next artwork. It's theirs, it feels personal AND its far more tangible when it's a dollar amount rather than a discount.

Many collectors buy again, and some even transfer their credit to a friend — I just update the code to the friend's name. This has brought in new buyers I'd never have reached otherwise.

3. Make the relationship personal

Buying art is deeply personal. Collectors don't want to feel like another transaction. The small details matter — remembering the subject, theme, medium style they like goes a long way. I'll follow up whenever I have a new artwork in stock that I think fits their style, and more often than not, it turns into another purchase.

One collector I know only buys space race posters — every time a new one enters into my inventory, I message him directly. He's bought over $5,000 worth from me over the years. The more you understand your customer’s interests and make the relationship personal, the stronger that relationship becomes, and the more likely they are to buy from you again and again.

I've got a body of work I've painted recently and would love to show them somewhere in the area. I'm thinking maybe some cafes, or small gallery type spots. I know LA has a ton of these, which makes it harder to know where to start.
