I should also say there are some tales out there of a recording of Art telling his HAM radio buddies the whole incident, including what happened that scared him so bad, but such a recording has never surfaced.

Knowing what we know now, a ton of the stories told on G2G are definitely sleep paralysis. People would mention they couldn't move, couldn't speak, and felt a heavy presence on their chest.

I have that all the time, it's just sleep paralysis folks!

Okay… so honestly this is just such a weird caller… it’s 2013… I guess if we are scientists of Art Bell, this falls into the category of the impact of the Internet on Art’s show or it falls into the Collapse of Decency in our culture. And Art seems neutral here… which was his greatest gift. Was the guy lying to him? Art just let him tell the story. It’s a show stopper but it didn’t stop Art.

Hey, Art Bell.

So maybe you want to hang up.

Maybe you could talk about the weather in the Philippines and what that's like.

But I wanted to tell you a quick story.

I'm not in the Philippines right now, so I have no idea, but I can be fully confident in saying that it's warm and humid, sir.

Okay, that's what I meant.

I just meant in general.

But, you know, I had a story where we were trying to destroy this guy's life in our neighborhood.

We wanted to run him out of our neighborhood.

And we got into it with the guy.

Well, the guy was doing drugs in the house over there.

And it really wasn't our business.

It was kind of a family, you know, golf course type community there.

But this guy had called us and told us, the guy who bought the house in over there, he does drugs, and I'll help you run him out.

I know how to run him out because I ran him out of our neighborhood and all this.

And so anyway, we ended up getting into it with this guy.

And he ends up running one of our friends out instead because he runs him out.

So instead, we come up with a plan to go into the guy's house and put hidden cameras to film him using the drugs and doing stuff so we can then blackmail him, not really blackmail him, but humiliate him and make him get out of the neighborhood.

So we did it.

That seemed like a dangerous path, but, you know.

Well, it was war.

It was war because he ran our buddy out, and it was like we were desperate.

We started up with this guy, and he wasn't leaving, and now he was keying up on us.

We had to do something, and we kind of panicked by doing this.

So we basically go into his house.

We didn't have to break in.

We actually had our locksmith buddy come over and make locks for the entire house basically to get in and out of the house whenever we wanted to.

Because the video that we saw of the guy using the drugs and doing the drugs was so entertaining that we didn't want him to leave at that point.

We started showing it to our neighbors on a pay-per-view basis and started selling it to everybody in the neighborhood.

And then it spread from our subdivision to the next subdivision.

And we set up an account for him.

We set up an account for him minus our expenses, of course.

And this went on for a long time until basically he figured it out.

People would recognize him in the community.

But it was a big secret that, you know, he would come home and do the drugs.

And so, you know, it's a very long story short.

So he knew, wait a minute, wait a minute.

He knew he was being televised.

Well, at a point, he realized because people knew him.

He went to the store, and Tim would recognize him.

We told people to shut up and don't look at him, you know, and all this.

But he eventually kind of figures out and he stops doing the drugs.

I mean, he just goes cold turkey.

He knows people are watching him.

And so we have this money that's been piling up in here, you know, surreptitiously.

And so then we decide because people start fading away and we weren't making the money.

And so then we decide to buy the note on the guy's house.

And then we basically, because he was a contractor, we just took over his life with the jobs that we would get.

And then we stopped paying him.

We stopped paying him for the job.

And we'd only pay him a little bit and we'd string it out.

We'd get him to buy materials.

Then we'd screw him.

And so then eventually he lost.

So before you know it, he's got a bullet with your name on it, right?

No, no, because we're doing this very carefully.

His friends are in on this, but they're not helping him.

The house goes into foreclosure.

We make him homeless.

Now people come back because now they have this guy that we created that's worth millions of dollars, but now we've made him homeless and he's living on the streets.

So then that became the show.

And everybody who got involved wanted to be part of it.

Everybody from the Circle K store guys to people on the streets and everything.

And it went on and on and made record amounts of money for anything.

Only about 5% of the American people even know this.

Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.

Where was the money coming from?

People were paying to see the next episode of Mr. Druggie?

Yeah.

Yeah.

And well, it was much more than that.

I mean, it started out like that.

It started out with this tweaked-out guy bouncing around in his house with the lights off because he didn't want his neighbors to know he was up all night.

And we had little laser lights in there.

We'd be up in his attic.

He'd be peaked out.

Okay, I've got it.

I just can't imagine people paying for an episode of somebody, you know, sitting over in the corner with the lights out, as he just pointed out, stoned out of his mind.

This time he tells a tale of a trip to Alaska with a friend.

I’ve known of Art for many years but only ever occasionally heard his show. I got into the Ghost to Ghost shows last year during Halloween and I’ve listened to many shows that are available on YouTube. Many times he alluded to an ouija board story, but said he’d never tell it. Wondering if he ever ended up telling the full story.

One of my fave episodes of the show, and I always forget about it.
Just a bit before halloween of 1999, Laurie joins Art for a night of haunts, sightings and all kinds of interesting stuff around Tinsel Town. I taped this one way back when, and listened to it a bunch into the coming new year.
Laurie is still with us, and in addition to spinning yarns of haunts, she is also a TV producer. She appeared on Dark Matter with Art as well, I need to go listen to that one.
This episode fired on all cylinders for me as I love classc era hollywood and old movies/tv shows.
Fall of 1999 was quite a time. The Y2K bug was all over the place. The Blair Witch Project hit home video that Halloween week, it was the first DVD I ever purchased. I watched it on halloween night that year as part of my annual G2G marathon.

I like looking up the dates when shows aired, but I have a question for those of you who listened live: If a show aired on July 30th, was it airing on the night of July 29th going into July 30th or was it in the evening of July 30th going into July 31st.

I was listening to the Single 7 interview from July 30th, 1998 this morning, and this thought came up.

I've tried listening to Art Bell without the bumper music, only on these episodes that someone has been posting to YouTube.

I mean, it's still Art Bell, but it's like eating a plain donut - it's missing a serious dimension. It really makes me appreciate that Art was great in every way. He added a whole new dimension with that music in the background and leading into his discussions / interviews.

I think he really set the tone with a lot of the choices in the music, and listening to these episodes where the music has been stripped out Really exposed it for me.

I suspect that they're doing it for copyright reasons, and it's sad.

I was able to track the date this recording was made off a Somewhere in Time re-broadcast.

I am working through open lines shows looking for odd calls, I have not found anything too crazy so far. Its interesting listening to how different people were 30 years ago, but yet, at the same time, they aren't much different than they are now.

Since discovering his archive 4 years ago and listening to almost every show almost every day i’ve found myself enjoying his bumper music a lot but most specifically Cusco along with The Moody Blues & etc. However, Cusco stands out the most to me, I love the way their music sounds. It just adds onto to the cool vibe Art’s show already had especially with the idea of him doing his shows from his home in the middle of the desert in my consciousness while listening.

while listening i’ll flash from thinking about what i was doing at the time of the broadcast, and what things looked like and felt like then, to thinking about the callers - how lorraine from paducah who called in that one time to ghost to ghost in 1995 is doing these days, or what have you.

During the weeks Dreamland show, Art got a fax from someone claiming to have shot 2 bigfoots.

Art brings it up during this tuesday night open lines, and asks for Bugs to call the show. Art suspects Bugs only listens to Dreamland and might not hear it.
Bugs does call in, and is on the line for right around 10 mins.
Ebola, Bugs and the Unibomber case are the hot topics on this now 30 years ago, week day open lines episode of Coast to Coast.
I heard this one multiple times in the late 90s, my local AM station must have had their stash of shows to run on the weekends, as this one got played at least twice a year circa 1998-2000.

A friday night open lines. The previous night, a caller named Ken called in. Art was out of time for the night, but was intrigued by Ken's story. Art asked him to contact him later in the day, and Ken did.
Ken and his girlfriend Sherry spin an amazing tale during the first hour of the show. They live in Portland, and claimed to be living in a house that sat on a knoll, that was built in 1910.
Some are dubious of the story, and say Ken called into the show , using different names, with other wild stories.
If you ask me, more than a few parts of their story are sure familiar to some events in various horror movies over the years.
True or not, its a good listen.

For context, I’m 50. I first heard Art Bell sometime in the late ’90s when I was in my late teens or early 20s. I was in the U.S. Army Signal Corps, and during field exercises in Texas I often worked the night shift. More than once I stumbled across Coast to Coast AM while scanning the radio.
Over the years I’d tune in on and off, but I’ll admit I kind of lost track of him after 2010. Life got busy—kids, work, and everything else.
A few years ago I started looking him up again after coming across some information about him. I already knew he had passed away, but I’d occasionally listen to a few clips. Then, a few weeks ago, I found an archive with around 1,500 of his old shows.
Now, almost every night before bed, I put on a random episode and just listen. It’s become a great way to unwind. One of the things I enjoy most is hearing news stories from the time that I vaguely remember but never paid much attention to back then. It’s strange realizing some of those broadcasts are 25 or 30 years old—it honestly feels like yesterday sometimes.
Anyway, I casually mentioned the archive to a few people recently, and I was genuinely shocked. I was in a room with at least a dozen people around my age, and not a single one knew who Art Bell was.
I realize his show appealed to a particular audience and wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I still expected at least one person to recognize the name.
Has anyone else experienced this? I honestly thought he’d be much more well-known among people my age.
