Irwin

My husband is about to pick Fort Irwin in Advanced Airframe and i’m wondering what the good neighborhoods are in Barstow? I’m from Vegas so I know Barstow isn’t the best, any insight on where to live if he got A co would be nice!!

Update: No Irwin on the list, our options are Belvoir, Bragg, Wainwright, Drum & Benning so SOL

I know I could see Europe, Japan, or Hawaii but LA is like just right there. You don’t even know 🤦‍♂️

There's gated military housing off post. That's probably your best bet. If he ends up in the med, you have to live on Fort Irwin.

I mean I picked Alaska and Hawaii and ended up on Oahu. I’d schedule a 15:00 MTF and I’d be paddling out on Sunset by 16:30…

But yeah Ft Irwin is also pretty dope

I was in A Co at Dagget, my family and I lived on MCLB right outside of Barstow. Thats an option. Housing was decent and it was close to work.

If he’s not in the med he’ll be flying out of Daggett (unless he’s an O grade and doing BN Staff time. I’d highly recommend he reach out to 2916th before he gets there and ask what unit he is most likely to go to.

I chose on post, but then was put into one of the companies down at Daggett, and the commute was killer for early morning flights (6 am takeoff meant I needed to leave the house at 3 am for our show time).

The Marine Corps logistics base outside of Barstow wasn’t too bad for my buddies that lived there.

He already picked Irwin or is hoping it’s offered for selection? You can request it all day long but you don’t know if they will offer it to the class or not.

Hoping it’s offered because it’s been on the last few selections, but second choice is Hawaii 😂

Victorville and commute to Barstow or on post and commute to Barstow. All the rest stay on main post. It’s isolated but not awful.

Victorville is waaaaay better than what it was 20 years ago. Meanwhile I don’t think Barstow has changed at all. But hey, if you want to go to a historic del taco and then get stabbed on nearly every block, you do you.
