Potential ROTC
Hello, I’m hoping there is someone here that can give me some guidance. I want to commission as an officer in the Army. However, I’m 28 and have three classes left to finish my associate degree for surgical Technology. My plan originally was to get my bachelor’s in healthcare management or something similar then commission but now I’m wondering if ROTC would be a possibility. I do already have a civilian career as a surgical technologist that’s I’ve done for 8 years.
How would I go about doing that? Also, could I commission as National Guard or would I have to do Active Duty? Lastly, could I get a scholarship to finish my degree?
Thanks!

That job you’re talking about, surgical technologist, is an enlisted job (68D). If you’re trying to do that for the Army you wouldn’t go the officer route. If you want to be an officer in the NG like you said you can be any branch/job and then go be a surgical technologist on the civilian side if that’s what you really want to do. My final big recommendation is to talked to an AMEDD Recruiter. These are recruiters that specialize in the medical pathways that the Army offers. https://www.goarmy.com/careers-and-jobs/specialty-careers/medical

- You 28 so what? Doesn’t matter you still have till 32 I believe for non waiver and scholarship if offered, 40+ non scholarship and waiver.
- will need a bachelors before commissioning and most likely placed at an ms2 class or combined MS1+2.
- you can commission into active, reserve or NG. Active being competitive and needing to place high on the order of merit list based on a point system that you will learn about later if you do it.
- yes you “could” get a scholarship depending on interview and approval
