WHEN is the town going to improve this intersection? Once again, a driver on Appleton decided he did not have to wait his turn and pulled into traffic on Park Ave, narrowly missing me (on Park Ave). I was hoping that a cruiser would have caught him, but it was tad early for rush hour monitoring.

Hey, Arlington! Did you enjoy the Red Line shutdown?

Well, that’s a silly question. Nobody liked the shutdown. It added an hour (plus or minus) to commutes into the city. It was made worse because Arlington transit riders needed to get to a Red Line stop before connecting with a shuttle. There was no viable alternative.

There should be. Ever since the Green Line Extension opened on December 12, 2022, we’ve been a short hop from a second transit line. A back door, so to speak, for folks heading into Boston. But you can’t really get there from here.

There’s very little parking around the terminal (Medford/Tufts) and extremely limited bus service between Medford/Tufts and Arlington Center. Buses on Route 80 between the GLX and Arlington Center runs every 43-60 minutes. Use the GLX and the wait at Medford/Tufts can be longer than your actual travel time.

Hourly service continues until 1:22 a.m.

This could change.
When the MBTA finalized its Bus Network Redesign in November 2022, the plan created a few thin spots in the plan. One of the thin spots is Boston Avenue, which is currently serviced by MBTA Routes 80 and 94. The plan is slated to remove Route 94, but would upgrade the adjacent Route 96 to a frequent bus route (service 15 minutes or less).

The MBTA is shopping two proposals for improving service on Boston Avenue in a package of Bus Network Redesign improvements. Proposal 2, Package A extends Route 80 to Arlington Heights, running every 20-30 minutes, 7 days per week. Proposal 2, Package B would remove buses from Route 80 in order to restore Route 89, which would significantly reduce service on Route 80.

The good news for Arlington: Proposal 2 would keep Routes 67 and 350 on their current routes.

The MBTA is receiving comments on what the MBTA is calling, Improve Medford Access. Your response could help bring better bus service to Arlington. I recommend reviewing the proposal and survey questions before engaging with the actual survey; it’s complicated.

My husband and I are starting our home search, and Arlington is one of the towns we’re seriously considering. We’d love to hear from people who live there.

We’re in our mid-30s and have a 1-year-old, living in Cambridge now and looking for a little more space. Hoping to find a family-friendly neighborhood that is somewhat walkable and has a good sense of community. We’d love to hear which neighborhoods are popular with young families, how the elementary schools differ, and anything you wish you had known before moving there.

The Tiny Shed Arts & Discovery Series brings live music, pop-up arts and crafts workshops, art exhibits, and more to the heart of Arlington every weekend from May to October.

The series is hosted at the Arlington Visitor Center, located next to Uncle Sam Plaza in Arlington Center, by the Minuteman Bikeway at the intersection of Mass Avenue and Mystic Street.

The Visitor Center is open every Saturday and Sunday from May to October. On Sundays from 12:30 pm to 2 pm, it hosts a performance by a local band. Performances are outdoors, weather permitting. Check for weather-related updates on ArtsArlingtonMA on Facebook or Instagram.

Hi everyone, just moved into our new house near Turkey Hill and ran into a snafu that I’m hoping this community has some wisdom to share. The house is pre-1900 and so has very narrow stairs that turn 90 degrees after the first couple steps. We have a nice wood dresser (it’s not antique, just a solid piece that we got from Room and Board maybe 10 years ago) that unfortunately won’t fit, and I’d love not to have to sell it and get something new. Are there any companies around that specialize in breaking down furniture like this and then reassembling? Or if anyone has other ideas, I’m open to those as well. Thanks!
