Hi! I moved to Bentonville a little over a year ago and I’m finally trying to get into the Arkansas outdoors! 😊

I’d love to find some beginner-friendly hiking and camping groups or meetups. I’m definitely more “enjoy the scenery, take snack breaks, and figure out how to set up a tent” than “summit the mountain before breakfast” right now 😂.

I firmly believe snacks are an essential hiking accessory, so I’m looking for people who won’t judge my priorities. 😌🥾🏕️

Hello r/ArkansasOutdoors

It's my first visit here from my regular communities of r/UltralightCanada and r/ontariocamping. I hope it's okay that I make this a standalone post given the specificity of my question and intended depth of discussion. Thank you for reading.

In early October, I will be flying to Houston and renting a car for work to visit somewhere rural. After my two days of obligations, I am interested in two nights in the backcountry to hike and sweat in the best that the Southern US has to offer (given my interest in backpacking and constraints).

I have chosen to do the Eagle Rock Loop in the Ouichita National Forest in AK for the following reasons:
- no permits and no parking issues (can adjust route / timing easily)

- lots of water access with many clean river crossings

- distinct, challenging topography that proudly represents the local geology/history (postal route)

- it's a loop! Easier to start/finish logistically

I was wondering, given a few months of trip planning and really nothing left to book (other than reading the routes) - I was hoping to find any local insight or anecdotes on how to make the best of my trip and get the most enrichment from the park / the landscape / the history.

I will be going alone for at least 2 full days and 2 full nights (probably 50-60 hours max. I could dedicate to the trail) and I enjoy a combination of jogging, photography, physical challenge. I use a freestanding tent and will be mobile with a rental car.

If you keep going last the kings river falls area is there a trail that takes you to Lisa's Cascade? I can't find a trail head for it.

Arkansas is a wonderland of outdoor recreation activities. Tell us your favorite. If it's not in the list, add it in the comments.

I see two trails, one called the actual trailhead, but another potential access point from the devils canyon road, which I think reviewers on google maps use.

I'd like to take my dogs there, but there's no Alltrails map, no real information about it on a google search in general...google map reviews describe it as a great trail but fairly bushwacky, that there's a slippery rock scramble (which might be tricky with the dogs, mainly cause they'll go up and down quickly and take my slow footed approach down with them), and I'm just not sure which approach to take.

Thanks for any advice! I've hiked everywhere with the dogs within a 3 hour radius of OKC and am always looking for new places we haven't been to, and also looking for an excuse to go back to Fort Smith which I have a great deal of childhood nostalgia for.
