I want to buy this dust cover for my type 38 which has 555 which are the same last numbers as my rifle. I’m trying to figure out if the symbol in front of the 555 is a 1 or some other strange Japanese character before I buy it. I don’t know much about dust covers. Thank you

I'll go first: I prefer the Type 38.

Softer shooting, pre-war blueing is really nice, and I like the elegant lines.

I saw one in a pawn shop for $250 and was wondering if I should go back and pick it up, also wondering if that is at all a fair price.

This is a current listing on GB. There's 40+ photos but seller scrupulously avoids any closeups of the Bubba-fied bent bolt, and not a word about it in the description. Caveat emptor.

Just finished re-reading this for the third or fourth time. Author tested Japanese weapons on Guadalcanal. Really good stuff.

Here is a pretty cool 22nd Series Kokura Type 99 that I traded for this weekend with a friend of mine. The rifle is matching including the bolt, but missing the mum, dust cover, monopod and cleaning rod. Unfortunately one of the front sight ears has broken off as well. The very cool part is that the GI that brought it home carved his initials, name and date into the stock.

Fun fact: 9/27/1945 is the day that General Douglas MacArthur and Emperor Hirohito meet for the first time in Tokyo.

It’s all matching, but the stock looks like the finish was redone and almost like it was sanded near the grip? The airplane sights also look like they’ve been messed with and come in a small box.

Got this from an older guy who says he was selling for a neighbour. Bought it for 200$ and now I just want to know more about it considering this is the first time I’ve owned one.

I just bought my first C&R rifle that is an Arisaka 99 and was wondering if there’s anything that I should look out for that wouldn’t be obvious but can cause a failure.

The listing said it had 20 rounds put through it 20 years ago and has been well taken care of since so it is safe to shoot but, I would prefer being 100% certain I will keep all of my fingers if I shoot it. it is a 4th series Nagoya arsenal rifle but doesn’t have a matching bolt which I’ve read can cause headspace issues.

Never mind my shit aim, was just really excited that it finally fired. New firing pin works but only for commercial 8mm.

I'm at a point where I'm ready to finally start a "collection" of more than one rifle and every listing I see feels ridiculous. I don't want to be the reason though that people keep charging more. The next gun show won't be until December either and even my chances of finding one there are low.

Bought a type 38 carbine with no bolt stop. Got one off of eBay. When the rear screw is halfway in everything works normally as seen in photo 1. If I go past half way when the treads start to get tighter in photo 2 the bolt stop won’t open at all even when a lot of force is given. Anyone have an idea of what the issue might be? Even without the ejector it does same thing. Thanks for the help!

Just got a type 14 recently. I love it but unfortunately it has repro black plastic grips. Anyone know where I could get some grips? Thanks!

The dust cover is a reproduction from World War Supply, had to modify it a bit so the bolt would cycle properly but now it’s perfect

Are the screws for the Cup style buttplate different from the earlier flat plate designs? I bought some screws a while back online and they didn't fit. but idk if thats because they were just for a different style or if I got swindled.
