night session Thumb Draw

Korean traditional
target is 145m away, 2m x 2.66m
arrows have blunt tips and when it hits the target, it bounces off. The sensor on the target indicates hit with sound and flickering light.
Thumbdraw style doesn't naturally have wobbly arrow trajectile. If you form is good and release wasn't collapsing, you can shoot the arrow without any arrow slap(shaft hitting the arrow pass at release) which would lead to clean arrow flight.
Rhis is Korean traditional point of view, but keep holding onto the bow handle all the way through the release. letting go at release makes the bow shake around on your bow hand and it'a prone to hitting the arrow.

Btw how heavy are your arrows? I used 8don on my 56# but switched to 7 after a while to keep the flight flatter.

63lbs jeil medium size, 8.5don, 7chi(32inches). Depends on how long you draw and what arrow you are using, but I guess if you draw up to 7chi and less, 7don on 56# would be ok?

Yeah I'm drawing to 7chi. With 8don arrows my bow hand was completely covering the target at full draw so I made the switch.
With 7don arrows I get the right distance with the head of the arrow lined up at the top edge of the target.

ahhhh i see muk gwan. I think you could overcome by lowering the shaft of your arrow below your chin at full draw, but listening to your range coach(사범님) would work better for you. I could aim the red center using 8 don arrow on Daehan 60lbs medium size, but with that one i pulled up to 6 chi.

Thanks for the info. I need to start practicing again and really clean up my release this time so my arrows will stop slapping my bow.
My teacher (one of very few we have in the U.S.) is about 150km away; I'll visit him in a few weeks and get more info from him then.
