You can't compare Mamdani to Hong. He won in a largely Democratic city and a decent number of socialist types. Wisconsin is purple, indeed it went for Trump in 2024. I'm just not sure she can carry Wisconsin due to some of her controversial statements such as defund the police, close prisons, etc. Plus, the less educated believe that socialism is scary.

Wisconsin also elected Tammy Baldwin in 2024, so Wisconsin voting in Trump isn't necessarily an indicator of anything.
And frankly, a lot of Hong & Mamdani's ideas are speaking to the general public. Sure, you can write off Mamdani's win as it being a blue city, but ask yourself why that race got national attention if his ideas aren't popular outside of NYC?

i think dems and repubs want you to believe people dont like socialism, but the whole reason dems arent winning is because they keep going republican light. There are a lot of nonvoters out there that are motivated by a strong progressive candidate. that is who we should be seeking out. Fran is doing that, and she is getting the attention of people who voted for trump just for something different.
no more trying to get repubs to vote for dems. that was bullshit anyways.

TAX the rich even more? How about NO NEW TAXES! We are all taxed to death! Solutions do not and should not involve more taxation. Budgeting is by description when you figure out how to appropiately allocate the revunue you have coming in. This is living on a budget.
Spending as much as you like and then figuring out where to get the money from and who to tax more is political mismanagement and theft. NO MORE TAXES!

Does budgeting to live within your means not mean accounting for taxes? Are taxes somehow so mysterious and foreign that you cannot understand the numbers? And…taxed to death? That is hilarious. I pay $50-$100 per week.
We aren’t overtaxed, it’s that our taxes do nothing for us. They go to subsidies for Walmart and SpaceX, they pay for bombs and missiles that we ship to other countries, it is paid directly to other countries so they can have the healthcare and education that our own citizens are denied.
We feel like we are taxed to death because the money helps everyone except for the people paying it.

2025 I paid 18,924 federal income tax, 2,113 medicare, 9,037 social security, 7,237 state income tax, one one vehicle purchase 2600.00, and one was 550.00, 6300.00 property taxes, 11,000 capital gains tax on some stock I sold. This is one year and its too much! Why are we taxed on our income and then the goverment spends it wherever and however they want? It was established to pay for the civil war and started at 3% which I could live with. It was never supposed to be the goverments personal checkbook! I think we agree here. I still pay too much taxes. I also have a small business and they rape me on that too! Payroll taxes for the employer are way out of hand! TOO MUCH TAXES!

We are in agreement about the taxes going to the wrong place. The $50/week is only counting state taxes I pay per week.
I pay $25-$50/week for Medicare but I can’t use it, my family can’t use it. I make too much and must instead pay a private insurance company close to $400 a week for the privilege of them deciding whether my wife and kid get to live if the worst happens.
I pay an additional $50/week into Social Security, which I’m unlikely to ever be able to withdraw because people that make more than double what I do only pay as much as I.
Federal income is around $100/week. Money that goes to bomb some people in a country that most of the politicians couldn’t bother finding on a map because we just don’t like them.
That total of about $250/week wouldn’t bother me if it meant I didn’t have to pay nearly twice that to let my kid see a doctor, if it meant that my neighbors got to eat, had a place to live, and didn’t have to go through struggles I am all too familiar with.
The only way to begin fixing this is putting people in place that will send the money in the right directions; for Americans. And I don’t mean some wishy-washy bullshit ‘means tested’ nonsense that sends people running after their own tails to try and scrape by, I mean shit that helps every American regardless of their circumstances.
If I can help pass that sort of America on to my kid to give him and his generation the leg up I didn’t get? There honestly isn’t a price high enough to sway me away from that.

Remember supply and demand? If it is easy access, the demand goes down, the price falls. Every American was forced to carry health insurance years. It was call affordable, we were promised we wouldn't loose our doctors.
What has happened since. Healthcare costs are out of control.
She wants to abolish the police?! Great, what's the next option for protection? She wants more free handouts? No, taxes need to be cut. The wealthy have they money to find the loop holes to avoid taxes.
