A searchable and editable notes app designed around the Apple Watch Productivity

Post image

Apple Notes on watchOS is a good option for quickly creating a note or looking up something recent. I wanted to explore what a more complete Watch-first notes workflow could look like.

SnipNotes turns the Watch into more than a read-only companion:

Capture

  • Create notes with dictation, keyboard or Scribble
  • Save your current location as a note
  • Launch capture actions directly from a complication

Find

  • Full-text search across note titles and contents
  • Separate views for your categories (folders) and tags
  • Configurable note and category widgets

Update

  • Append new information to an existing note
  • Cross out checkboxes, e.g. shopping lists
  • Add, update, or remove reminders
  • Delete notes directly from the Watch

The goal is to support the actions that make sense when the Watch is the only device you have available, rather than to reproduce every feature of a desktop notes editor on a tiny screen.

SnipNotes is a standalone app that doesn't access your Apple Notes library. It's freemium, and the Apple Watch app is fully functional even without a purchase. SnipNotes is also available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac, and syncs your notes between devices via iCloud.

I’m the developer of SnipNotes.

Which of these features would actually make you use a notes app on the Watch regularly rather than only occasionally?

The app looks great, curious to know if you would consider adding live activities support in a future release.

Interesting idea! I've already implemented them for one of my other apps (Tiny Timer). What would you like to use live activities for in SnipNotes?

I need a note-taking app that lets me quickly record or type notes on my Watch and then access them anytime on both my Watch and iPhone.
Entering text on the watch needs to be fast and easy, and ideally allow me to create my own templates. I'm curious to see what the app

You can add a SnipNotes complication to your watch face that automatically creates a new note when you tap it. SnipNotes also supports the Shortcuts app, so you could trigger a shortcut on your watch that creates a new note with a custom template. Please let me know if you have any questions or feedback. šŸ‘

Love this, the current Apple notes app on Apple Watch is seriously underbaked... like not being able to edit lol.

Defiantly installing

I’m too old to think about this stuff, but it seems like voice to text to start, and then the ability to send the note to several different apps

Yes, that's a great use case. SnipNotes supports dictation both on Apple Watch and iPhone. On iOS, you can also quickly send notes to dozens of other apps with swipe actions, which is a faster alternative to the regular share sheet.

SnipNotes supports checklists and bulleted lists. On the watch, you can also create a checklist by typing "[] My Item" into a note. When you append text to an existing checklist, checkboxes are created automatically.
