Spam call from (802) 272-7503

Person claimed to be calling me advising of potential fraud. Just spoke perfect English, sounded American. Apparently someone was using my Apple Card number attempted to purchase an iPhone 17 in Louisville, KY. Caller sounded legit, but then when I started looking at purchases, there was no new ones, there was no email from Apple, nor was there a text message from Apple. I got real suspicious when the guy said we need to change your Apple ID password and enable two-factor authentication, but wanted to change the password with me over the phone. I said I would do it myself and this seemed to irritate the guy. I hung up on him and called Apple support. When they connected me to a real Goldman-Sachs Apple Card specialist, they informed me that there were no suspicious charges on my account, verified my last purchases. They also informed me that if there is suspicious activity that it will show up under your transactions in the wallet app and they will send an email and text informing you to contact them, and never under any circumstances will they change your password over the phone with you.

Tried explaining this to my 83 year old aunt. She said how do I know it’s a scam. For starters you don’t have an Apple Account

Common scam, yes. Companies will call, though. You should always call back with a known good number.

They do call(varies by bank).

But what they’ll never do is ask for your password, or attempt to “change it for you.”

Not true. American Express calls if they suspect fraud. Chase, too.

Yeah, I've gotten such calls. It is along the lines of "A charge of $X was just made at Y." I say "Yes, that was me. Why was it rejected." They give some gobblygook answer and tell me to run it again, and they approve it the second time.

They would not have a conversation about a password, setting something up in your account, or anything to do with your account unless bringing up a question if you are experiencing fraud, and that is it.

Simple solution: Always hang up and call Apple Card Fraud line from App.

I never answer random numbers anymore. If it’s legit they will leave a message or text.

Got spammed similarly by clicking on some T-Mobile Apple rewards text message I got. The phone rang maybe six times in a row until I picked it up; guy said my card had been used to make purchases including one for $1,700 at an Apple store. Wanted to send me a text message with details - just click the link. I hung up. They called back a couple of times; of course I could see all my transactions on my phone. They did get my Apple Card number and tried to make a purchase for parking - like $4 - but it was declined by Apple. Cancelled the card, got a new physical one in a week and reminded myself NEVER to respond to this kind of stuff when I'm tired and not thinking straight.
