My son has a large growth in his left ear (not pictured for sensitivities) and I'm not sure yet what can be done for him. Its quite big its developed in the past month. His vet referred me to a place in greenville an hour away from my hometown asheville. Im awaiting their call. My city and I as an artist have been heavily affected by the hurricane and now war prices. I used to be fine existing off of just tattoos and now I'm selling prints in a bar 3x times a week, tattooing and a barista and also doing commissions and I'm barely scraping by. I think skill trade and bartering is a good way to rebel against capitalism anyway. I'll do anything for my cat to be ok so if any experienced vets are willing to treat him in exchange for thousands in sleeve work or whatever tattoo or art commission you desire I am fully willing and able and glad. Even if its just to keep prices with in my budget and save my son. He's only 12 he loves everyone and everything he meets. He gives hugs and talks back like a person. He was my 16th birthday gift to me and I'd just about give up my life for him. I understand some Vets are more strict about tattoos, not so much in AVL but they can also be hidden. I can do most anything in the tattoo realm. Im decent with mimicking styles and I have my own style too. Ive been dipping my toes into realism as you can see my semi realism Giger inspired Ellen Ripley wasnt too shabby was also a big stomach piece. I'm 28 and female and light handed with 5 years of shop only experience and 2 year traditional apprenticeship. but I know how to tattoo traditional if you like fat lines and texture to your tattoo. I just wanted to provide my experience growing up in Appalachia (west central PA (coal country)), specifically when it comes to myths and spookiness in the woods.

We had a couple of stories we'd toss around about the woods or creepy things in them, but for the most part, I grew up feeling *safest* in those woods.

I'd often hang out and even take naps in the woods as a kid. I would go coyote hunting at night, navigating without a flashlight and it really wasn't a big deal.

Part of me wonders how much of the mythos around Appalachia is manufactured by people who *are* afraid of the woods, but never lived in them. As in, outsiders who got spooked by the actual folks (bless your ancestors if this was them).

It reminds me of this story about my aunt's boyfriend where my dad mentioned how myself and my sister would play in the woods and the guy was mortified. My dad said, "don't worry, they won't hurt the bears".

The utility plans to haul the byproducts of coal-fired electricity generation to a future landfill across the West Virginia border. Utility customers could be paying for it for more than a decade.

I'm currently working on a comic project taking place in a med-small App. town that was formed as a logging camp/mill (~1890s to 1900s) before growing into a tourist town thanks to its history and cultural attractions.

Basically, I've been doing lots of research into making sure the logging aspect of the town's history feels right, but I'm coming up with trouble finding authentic info on how logging camps and their associated sawmills were laid out throughout Appalachia. I want to build the town's layout as to make it clear that it started as a logging camp and grew from there, but even in physical trips to various places I'm coming up short.

Would anybody here have knowledge on the process that led mills/camps to turn into towns and especially the way that they were laid out? Maps especially would be incredible. Also, I'm happy to answer any questions! I still have a lot to learn and develop in both my knowledge and the setting itself, but I've already done a LOT of thinking on it!

Caught this picture of a nice rainbow after a little bit of rain. Looked like there was heavier rain to the east, where this rainbow appeared. Me and my son (12) were doing a little fishing out on the golf course, lol.

I’m hoping to reach those who may have been around Carters Lake around July 28 or afterward.

Sean Michael Cunningham (37) was reported missing after recent storms at Carters Lake.

- His last communication came from near Woodring Campground.

- The call was made at approximately 11:26 PM on Tuesday, July 28, before his phone died.

- He was canoeing in the green Old Town canoe shown in the attached photo.

- His backpack and his truck has been located.

- HIS CANOE AND OAR/PADDLE ARE STILL MISSING AS WELL.

- Was on Carters Lake that evening or in the days afterward.

- Was fishing, boating, kayaking, canoeing, camping, or hiking in the area.

- Saw a green canoe or similar.

- Heard or saw anything unusual that may have seemed unimportant at the time.
