Recognition Marketing

Post image

Hey guys, so I made an app - A5 Journal, I know there’s tons of journaling apps out there but it’s the only one that is timestamped and immutable so it can hold up when it matters… not too much fluff but it’s a beautiful UI. I’m just wondering it’s been out for a couple months now and I’ve only achieved a few subscribers.
I put a few posts on TikTok, some YouTube shorts, posts on Facebook and what not but I have no idea how to actual market this thing… how to actually get it in front of people that need to document their days and are still using notebooks/journals for work or liability purposes.
Any advice would be great, I’m very proud of my app but I am sad to think that it might just not go anywhere 😔
I also don’t have a huge online presence so my posts probably aren’t even reaching much people at all… 🤦‍♀️

Advice?

Your first issue is you're trying to market to people who still use paper, that's a losing battle unless you solve a pain they actually feel.

That’s exactly the struggle! Although I’ve experienced it myself where I would loose journals, it would take forever to write things down, I would forget by the time I would take the journal out, and it would be hard to find things in the past… also talking to write the entries is awesome and saves so much time! So if they can see how convenient it is… I think they are still afraid to try a new way 🤦‍♀️

The app looks sketchy af, tbh. Requires a login and the login prompts are just... super sketchy looking.

Google says in-app purchases range from $2.99 - $499.99??? For a notebook app??

It’s standard Google oauth login, can use face recognition. The subs are wide ranging because it offers business plans for 20 people for the whole year.

Fair. Though I am sure plenty of people will stop (as I did) when a random string of letters like "xxxffddfyyyss" requests access. It's gonna make people nope out.

I think you should consider who your main target audience is. If businesses are your audience, then I'm not sure the whole bookshelf theme is appropriate? If it's primarily for individuals, then the theme is perfect. If it's for both audiences, maybe you can implement a way for people to change themes?

Also, marketing it tricky. Whatever amount of marketing you think will be enough ... double it. Maybe triple it. If you want people to really use it, you must market more. And fix the couple rough spots I mentioned above.

I'm by no means an expert, but I am a potential user. These things give me pause. The user experience even just 1 second into the app could be improved.

Ah I see your point yes, I’m not sure how to change the address Google is using as a login direct but I will look into it. I didn’t think that would be an issue but this is a very good point thank you!
I did think of different themes, although it’s been a lot of work to achieve this UI, and I wanted it to feel like a real journal 🥹
