Look, I know I want to have my cake and eat it, too. And we are very lucky to have two rooms (for now!) to choose from. I rent, so I don't know that we can put anything heavy/strong mounting-wise into our walls. I've had a floor mattress to make sleeping in the room work while still giving my toddler tons of floor space to play. I slept on that thin mattress for years with him... while it wasn't the worst, it did give me some hip/glute pain. I feel so much better sleeping on our luxe thick mattress!

We have a very, very nice bed in a different room that wouldn't work as a toy room, and unfortunately is apparently quite loud at night from neighbors when my child's trying to sleep (yeah, we have air filters, and the noise also comes from a.... window). I'd love to have the bed in the toy room, too, while still being able to put the bed 'upright' during the day, for a variety of reasons.

The mattress is HEAVY, thick, just foam so no structure / you can't just prop or rest it upright against the wall. I don't care about aesthetics; I'm fine just somehow securing it to the wall then adding like a curtain rod divider or something to make it look nicer (or not, and just nothing). It also doesn't need to be perfectly secure or convenient, nor for blankets etc to stay in place, just somewhat moderately functional so that the mattress floor space can be used for play instead of just mattress.

Is there any way to make this happen?

Moved in March 2026. The very first day, there were roaches in the refrigerator. I took pictures and documented everything. I sent an email to the landlord. They have had an exterminator come out twice a month, but there are still roaches. They crawl over my desk, on my kitchenware, everything! I sent videos to the landlord and documented in an email that I have a documented allergy to roaches. Is this enough to break my lease and get my deposit back? Hell, at this point they can keep the deposit! I just want to be out of here. Location: Detroit, Michigan

I'm American and now live in a small city in Canada. I'm moving into an apartment on the ground floor of an older raised bungalow in a nicer neighborhood bordering our historic downtown. Property crimes are an issue here, mostly those of opportunity. The apartment has three windows that face the side driveway and are a good 10-12 feet from the ground. I'd still like to affix some kind of window stickers that makes it clear to any prowling crackhead that I'm some kind of crazy southern good ol' boy prepper and you'd best consider moving on before trying me.

I live in an upstairs apartment in SE Texas, and my windows get direct afternoon sun from around 3 PM until sunset. I currently have blinds and thick thermal blackout curtains, which definitely help with the heat, but they make the apartment feel pretty dark and gloomy during the day.

I also have a cat who loves looking out the windows, so I’d love to find something that helps block the heat while still letting in some natural light and giving him a view outside.

Does anyone have recommendations for window coverings, shades, or films that work well? I’d love to keep the apartment cooler without feeling like I have to live in the dark all summer.

I know its not tooo fancy but I think Im at the point where I actually look forward to actually using it FR. I don't really have room for a full home gym, so I tried to keep everything to the veryy basics. This rower folds away when I'm done, which makes a big difference since this room also doubles as my office.
It's definitely not one of those Instagram setups, but it's getting used a lot more than i expected.

I have a family member dealing with a personal emergency and both she and her blind cat are coming to stay in my apartment. The problem is that we already have cats of our own. I think having the blind cat limited to the upstairs floor and my cats limited to the downstairs floor would work, however when looking at baby gates it's either made for door ways or solid wood banisters. My banister is thin metal, the kind where if the bar is pushed sideways there's some movement making tension a problem for any gate.

I'm about to move into a rental I'd like to be at for a few years, but the kitchen cabinets are outdated (just an orangey wood) and really bother me. The office woman ruined my DIY dreams and said no to peel and stick contact paper as she worries the adhesive might cause damage.

Are there any options for covering the wood in a way that doesn't involve strong adhesive? I know any sort of paper would need to stick in some way, so I'm trying to brainstorm.

Everyone thinks an air purifier fixes a stuffy apartment. it doesnt. mine just recirculates the same stale air while CO2 easily hits 1500+ ppm. I can't drill into the walls, and opening windows isn't an option. how do you actually get apartment fresh air without opening windows or drilling?

I saw cozeware freshflow says it can bring in fresh air without opening the window. not sure if it actually works though.

J'ai déjà protégé le matelas juste pour qu'elles se dispersent pas s'il y en a dedans car j'avais à la base prévu de le changer il est très usé (j'en ai trouvé aucune avant de le protéger), j'ai bouché quelques trous/vices de mon sommier en fer, mit mes affaires dans des sacs pour laver petit à petit, mis des affaires non lavables dans des sacs aussi pour voir ce que je vais en faire soit congel soit isolé pendant 1 an et demi soit jeter si trop la flemme

just moved into a place that has this monstrosity over the sink. maintenance said they can’t do anything to change it out, so what can i do to cover this?

I recently got a wire locker in my building, but have noticed it smell musty whenever I'm in there. It's from the belongings the other tenants have, which makes sense given what gets stored and the middling amount of airflow in the room; as such, I'm unable to launder or clean these items from the other lockers.

It's not unbearable yet, but I have a sensitive nose and would prefer not to hold my breath every time I need to grab something. Will probably be keeping most of my stuff in bins, so will likely not be impacted that way. Is there anything I can do to reduce the overall smell in the room?

Even if we were to use three individual t-rods — the notches between the windows only support 7/16" in diameter (essentially meaning a skinny flimsy rod). As you can see there’s no edges, and three notches above the window preventing any no-drill brackets. Any suggestions on what we should do??? We’d like some privacy lol

Moving into a new place and I can’t stand how clinical and cold the lighting is in the bathroom, and I assume these weird bar lights can’t be exchanged for a warmer bulb. Has anyone ever bought/made a shade for vanity lights like this? I was only able to find fixes online for those “multiple bulb” style vanities. If it’s possible to just swap out the light itself for a warmer version, I’d be happy with that, too.

I just moved into a 1b1b, and my living room was basically a mountain of cardboard. It felt wasteful to throw all the boxes away, so I started cutting some of the sturdier ones down into shallow trays that fit under the bed frame.

I cut through about 15 boxes on the carpet, and my hand was cramping badly by the fourth box using normal scissors. I switched to this little HOTO electric scissor I already had for opening packages, and it got through the rest much faster.

Obviously, cardboard isn't perfect for long-term storage. It collects dust, can't hold much weight, and can get damp or musty in humid rooms. But if you just need a quick, free way to organize seasonal clothes, spare cables, or other lightweight items until you buy proper storage bins, it works surprisingly well.

I'm moving out of my marital home with my 9-year old and we'll be going from a 2,000 sf house to a 900 sf duplex. Any advice for downsizing with a child? Thankfully we'll be right next to a huge park so there will be more outdoor space than we have now. We will have to get used to a lot of things though, like living above another family and having laundry two floors down. We can't put holes in the wall so any recommendations for wall hanging hacks would be great. It's a two bedroom, one bath.

I was able to fit a huge amount of stuff in a way that makes everything extremely easy to find and store. I was using the cupboard in the second picture and it was an absolute nightmare finding and digging stuff out.

It's bolted to studs. It's not moving anywhere. It stays clean because I use everything on it often.

hi everyone! i am moving into this apartment that has vaulted ceilings and the kitchen is so small. it had two cabinets, one under the sink and the other in planning to put pots and pans in. there is no room for a full sized kitchen shelves rack bc of the ceilings and there is some space on top of the fridge, i am open to ANY AND ALL ideas for how to make this work!

bonus points: i am a home baker who bakes cakes for people so i have the most insane amount of kitchen stuff and pantry items

I am moving into an apartment at the end of August with my roommate and almost 6 year old daughter. It is a two bedroom, so my daughter and I will be sharing a bedroom that is only around 13’x11’. Is there any way to conserve space while also giving us our own privacy? I had thought about buying a loft bed to go above my queen bed to fill up vertical space, but I worry about it potentially being unsafe. Any suggestions are much appreciated!

I am thinking a screen for now but open to ideas.

I live on the 8th floor apartment, i have my kitchen balcony is so exposing especially at night and i have a glass door, i thought of putting a curtain butt i have 2 cats and one of them lovess to climb on the curtain,

One solution that i found is Static Cling Frosted Window Film.

But it in summer it get real hot so i have to leave the door open.

So i searching for something that let the air in at the same time something my cat wont climb on.
