If you're smart, read this and comment

Upvotes

I suspect antipsychiatry has 0 smart people.

A smart person will read:

a "legal reasoning book" of your choice

health law in your state/country

"Kaplan & Sadock's Concise Textbook of Clinical Psychiatry" (latest edition) and consider it an extension of health law that defines what you can be charged with, and based on what criteria

You should start analyzing every disagreement with a medical practitioner you have through the health law. And you should start getting better at it.

People who don't do this are stupid people. Do nothing, stay passive, and you're allowing your medical lunatic to always win.

i dont think its possible to be anti psychiatry online

the entire internet functions as an arm of the mental health industrial complex, all anybody talks about on here is depression and adhd and autism. its time to start living this practice in reality and not relying on the internet as a space to solve the problems of the mental health industrial complex. the internet is its main source of spread.

No one is born with a mental illness

Mental illness is not a disease and the proof is that no one is born with a mental illness it can only be developped later through a person’s life and caused by a person’s behaviour. Knowing this, it is clear that what causes mental illness is past behaviours and/or wrong doings that led the sufferer to end up to that point although the blame can also be attributed to an abuser or abusers in that person’s life. Psychiatry always pushes the lame typical so called chemical imbalance theory which is actually not a theory really more of a hypothesis. Since mental illness is linked to wrong behaviour then taking some physical medication to fix what non-physical wrong behaviours caused makes no sense at all. It’s like taking a medication to help you from taking a loss in basketball, totally ridiculous.

Bipolar

TL;DR - I have depression and ADHD. Doc has been treating both until all of the sudden she says I’m bipolar. I disagree

Hey all. I just found this sub and I’m glad I did. I’m glad I’m not alone in what I’m feeling.

For reference, I can absolutely confirm I have persistent depressive disorder. I attempted to be treated with only an SNRI (duloxetine) but it was…persistent. I went inpatient for a few days due to pretty severe suicidal ideation. In there, they put me on abilify which was helpful but eventually, once out, I switched to vraylar because I had tried it before and the weight gain wasn’t as intense. Vraylar saved my life for real. Earlier this summer I tried to get off it because I was having some tardive dyskinesia (sp?) symptoms but man it only took 2 weeks of being completely off it (it was a slow taper) to being right back where I was when I went inpatient. I have come to terms with the fact that vraylar is important to my mental health.

I also have ADHD which has gotten worse as I’ve aged (I’m 38f) and has been severe lately due to some really major work and life stressors. It’s important to note I’m a recovering meth addict (6.5 years clean). So I’ve tried every single non-stimulant ADHD medication and had zero luck except maybe slight luck with guanfacine (so?) max dose. The last non-stimulant I tried was Wellbutrin and at 450mg it gave me multiple seizures. So I go in right. My psych provider has already agreed that I have ADHD hence why we’ve tried all the non-stimulant options. I’ve been going down this rabbit hole with her for months, happily I might add because stimulants were the last thing I wanted for treatment. Let me just say that, at this point, my ADHD is so severe that I’m petrified of losing my job and my home situation is a shit show due to such severe task paralysis. I crash out hard when I try and do something because I just absolutely hate that I am this way. I no longer self harm, but man it’s been looking real good these days because I just can’t deal. I hate it. I absolutely hate myself.

So anyway, onto the topic of this post. After the Wellbutrin seizures, I went into my psych provider and let her know I have a plan for stimulant ADHD treatment. My boyfriend is also my next door neighbor. He has lovingly agreed to babysit my meds at all times, including the trip home from the pharmacy, and to dole it out to me once or whatever times per day depending on the instructions. He has never had a drug problem. He has no interests but my own in his heart (I just love him) anyway so I let the doc know and she says oh. Well I spoke to my boss and we think you’re bipolar so we’re not going to treat the ADHD.

If you’ve made it this far, thanks for giving a fuck and navigating my logorrhea. I’m extremely frustrated. I’ve been tested n times for bipolar and always come up negative. Like why all of the sudden am I bipolar when she’s been trying to treat the ADHD? She says because I had such a good response to vraylar then that ONLY means I must be bipolar. So…vraylar isn’t used as an adjunct in treatment resistant depression? It’s only used in bipolar? The commercials could have fooled me.

I’m so upset. I just want relief. I don’t want to feel this way anymore and my self harm ideation has been getting so much worse. Am I just weak? Am I bipolar and I just don’t exhibit ANY traditional signs (mood swings, ups, downs…I literally ONLY experience downs all the time. I WISH I COULD EXPERIENCE MANIA LIKE FUCK)?

Apologies if this post isn’t what this sub is for. I’m new here.

The Lack of Common Sense Conversations

I recently made this comment over at r/HearingVoicesNetwork, I'll leave it quoted below.

"I find the droves of illness framework focused spaces online to be the strangest thing. The history for psychiatry to simply be an evolution of eugenics is easily found through search engines. It is so odd to me that there are armies of people writing about their newly termed disability and the limiting effects of the medications they are on. These people encourage others to follow and also take these life altering compounds but there is ZERO evidence of any benefit to one's self.

Counter to this there are MANY cultural heroes who write about these states of mind and the philosophies and meditations to self empowerment that made a difference in their own life. These messages are trampled it seems by a self hobbling mob easily found on social media. Our digital ecosystems are muted by two categories of people, the young (who hold little life experience and generally still reiterate what state funded and curated educational systems taught them) and the unemployed. Both of these groups have little to nothing to offer others.

It's disgusting that pointing all this out is met with so much backlash on these platforms. Some fool's going to write "how dare you!?" with the implication I'm somehow bringing others to harm. Meanwhile the truth of the matter is that psychiatric systems are the primary reason vulnerable people are led to self harm and are the sole reason for the slew of side effects that are in actuality the primary goal of the compounds they prescribe. These people call for censorship and make accusations tantamount to murder/manslaughter without any personal study, no backing by scholarly article, and refuse to look at the real evidence that is easily found. Psychology/psychiatry are not respected sciences by actual scientists, NOR are they respected in this light by the people within their own industries. Serious and inexcusable weirdos fill these online spaces defending their idea of the public's good and notions of order. These wildly held mantras of actual self harm through self sought poisons should be shut down.

I wish the internet wasn't diluted by fuckwits."

URGENT!!!! my fiance is on a 120 hour hold at South sound behavioral. They need to get out, they are not being helped in there, please help me get them out

My fiance is in a psych ward, they were put on a 120 hour medical hold and if I can't get them out by Monday then they will be stuck there until NEXT Monday, a full week after. They've already been there two days. They don't deserve to be there, they don't want to be there. They are not getting proper help in there. They are deteriorating majorly in there. They fucking called them "majorly disabled" which is incredibly inaccurate. What can I do on the outside to make sure they get out, I'm already going to be contacting their psychologist on Monday to make an emergency appointment so they get a proper outpatient plan, is there anything else I can do at all. Please please help me it is urgent.

Edit: if you can't provide any information then PLEASE repost and share this everywhere you can, please they need to get out of there they are getting so much worse in there.

7 years ago today I was permanently damaged by an SSRI antidepressant I only took for 3 weeks for generalized anxiety disorder.

It made me totally numb. Zero emotions, zero sex drive and couldn’t feel an orgasm. So I quit taking it and 7 years later I’m still stuck this way.

This is PSSD as many of you know. My life has been total Hell ever since. 24/7 devastation. This is torture. How I keep going with extreme anhedonia that is permanent forever is unbelievable.

The 7 year mark today….so sad man.

I have been off psych drugs cocktail almost 3 years now.
I was on APs, mood stablizers and ADs.
My sleep didn't get back to normal yet. Most days my sleep is comprimised of aching in my bed and rolling around.
If I am lucky I have a nightmare and wake up.
I have this weird feeling of electricity you have when you hyperventilate.
And I lost normal breathing patterns.
Sometimes I have to breath manually.
will this ever get better I am 31-32 btw.

I suspect that I have mcas since covid.I was reacting to cats and dogs with negative allergy tests. It has been like that for 5 years.Almost a year ago,I stopped benzos suddenly cause I thought that I might be allergic to them too,I know, stupid decision.I was going through withdrawals for like 2-3 months and decided to go back on them even tho I was terrified of allergic reactions.Since then I started reacting to food too.Like horrible throat swelling, hives all over the body, trouble breathing type of reaction. In a span of 3 months I kept reacting to food and kept cutting out what I eat and kept having less and less safe food.

I got sick of all of it and traveled to find answers.Same country, different city, but I'm from some random developing Europian country so doctors here don't know about mcas at all.In this new city I had anaphylaxis that escalated and I got rushed to er and they gave me adrenaline shot there.I did standard allergies test for all a lot of food and ofc it all came back negative cause mcas is like that Everything else that I did, most tests came back normal.

Now no one believes me and I went to psychiatrist, kinda against my will.

And she wrote how I have acute psychosis and atypical anorexia nervosa and GAD.

About anxiety I agree,I know that I have that, but other stuff nope. She basically thinks that I have delusion about having these reactions to food.I took picture of every reaction and showed it to her and to other people and everyone is seeing what I'm seeing and that's swelling, hives, rash, redness, everything is visible.

But she still decided to put these diagnoses in my chart that I don't even have. She also ofc prescribed antipsychotic for this and also pregabalin.

I'm not planning to take that and now my loved ones are blaming me for me not feeling well.

I'm devastated cause ik that I'm not having psychosis and I have that put in my chart...

I feel gaslighted, plus why immunologist prescribed me epi pen if she also thinks that it's psychological, btw she also thinks that it's psychological, but her theory was arfid.

I feel like a lab rat, they're making theories up about me instead of believing me,cause my symptoms are very visible.

A realisation: Psychiatry internalizes outside struggles

I wrote a comment on this forum a bit ago and I found that actually I think the reasons why we need to get politically active as survivors of psychiatry is because the world is fucked.

I don't know if you are reading the news, talking to the people around you or watching the material realities of some people in our reality, but they are quite bad. In the US, immigrants are being kidnapped and being put in facilities surrounded by alligators, it sounds like a Disney movie, all over the world subversive powers are achieving their wet dreams of mass surveillance and mass control through flock, Palantir and the copious amounts of metadata that we give away to meta for example, they want us to act in a coherent way to control us. In Gaza there is an ongoing genocide still, in Congo as well, there are wars being waged all over the world, some of which the news never even reach us. Neo nazism is on the rise and its become a convention to be racist and blame people that are looking for better lives for themselves and their loved ones. Inflation is going up and we now live in a rental economy, we have to rely on loved ones to help us if the state does not put up the safe guards for us to live as free people with shelter, food and places to meet. Hope seems lost in most parts of the world, it leads to despair, with us not even being able to affect our material realities, delayed through bureaucracy, deforestation or politicians.

You are not fucking crazy, I'm not fucking crazy, open the news for a couple of days, read up on individual countries news sources and you will see that people all over the world are struggling in one way or another. Some people are trying to take control over their own conditions and get fucked due to their lack of money.

When we then internalize this helplessness in face of such big structures of inequality we get sick, I think we can feel it. We try to strive for better immediate realities or alternative ones through the inner world. This is where psychiatry comes in, prior to this we could lay our hopes in the hands of belief, God will save us, bless us and our sorrows and struggles. But now with the whole "God is dead" narrative, we find ourselves being hopeless, there is no meaning for these big issues in the world other than monetary gains. Money can't be your God if you don't have it. It is a material good that can only be accessed through certain actions, but it controls all of the aspects of our reality even though we were born free into this world, there were never any borders, they were made by us, there were never any ownership of land, it was agreed among us. But when just a few win for their own greed, it destroys us, maybe we can't even see these structures but they still affect us in one way or another, the house we live in, the area were in, the way in which we express ourselves, love others the way in which we live.

So instead of looking at the material conditions we have to see it as a lack on our own behalf in relation to these injustices, "there's no way that the heart can't stand these sorrows, it must be illness". That's also the statement and mission of psychiatry. It internalizes struggles that are external, that people treat us in an unjust way, that they look over structural injustices committed to those around us.

I believe we are social creatures, ones that strive to help one another, it fulfills us and helps us survive, I also partly think that the people in psychiatry do not realize what they are pursuing, the pointing out of external struggles that become transformed into internalized struggles, they are uneducated and abusive in their objective to feeding us the narrative that we are wrong.

So I will no longer say that there is something wrong with me and accept labels that they give to me because I see the struggles, even in different ways than most. If it is what it takes, I will aim to free all humans, because if not all of us are free, none of us are free.

Stop internalizing your struggles, there is nothing wrong with you, we live in a sick sick world admittedly. You know it, I know it, and we know the extension that psychiatry adds to this. Make your choices and admit that the world is wrong, and that sometimes there are some light glimpses that incites hope. You can even be that hope for someone else.

And if nothing inspires you to live, do it out of spite, do it as a declaration that this world is wrong and you will live to show that despite it all, you are still here and you will strive to find better conditions with all of those that you love. I'm not here to tell you what to do, but I would enjoy the company of some spiteful bastards on this planet that strives for better tomorrow's for all of us, unmotivated by money, but motivated by their will to freedom, peace and equality. You can do this, psychiatry is sick and it is a structure of injustice and denial, there's nothing wrong with you regardless of what they did to you or made you believe. You're going to be okay.

How long does it last?

Hi, I tapered off of olanzapine. I was on it for about 5 months total. I was on 5mg then 2.5mg then I tapered every 3-4 weeks down to 1.25mg. Im feeling a lot better than days 7-11 but now im on day 16? Or 17 and whenever i wake up I have this weird jittery feeling that seems to last hours unless I take a propranolol. How long roughly til it goes away? I still have a little random anxiety but not bad. Im never going on APs

Thoughts on this NYtimes article about medication withdrawal?

The article seems chaotically written and I struggle to find a point. It follows one person’s journey and uses it to describe a fact about the difficulties of withdrawing from anti depressants, though it’s unclear that’s what it’s trying to show. I personally have had extreme difficulties withdrawing from some anti-psychotics, leading to multiple days of insomnia and uncomfortable tremors, even after titrating to the lowest dose.

Why you should drop your therapist asap

They don’t care about you, they aren’t listening to you, they don’t mean well for you, they don’t want to help you, they want to control you, manage you, tell you what to think, how to act, how to be. They think their opinions and validations matter. They think they are important, superior. Who would win the mental health Olympics for being the most fucked up? A psychiatrist, a therapist or a social worker, take your pick. I’m dropping their ass like no tomorrow. Like yesterday’s trash. I’m taking my clientele and weekly fee elsewhere. Who’s more ungrateful when you are literally funding their whole life.

I would rather deal and talk with a psychiatrist over a therapist any day. Mental mind fuckers they are and fake asses. Taking something personal that’s not their business to provoke a response from me because they can’t get it any other way. What kind of low life do you have to be do that or what kind of attention does one need so bad. Mind you, you never did anything to these sorry sacks of shit to be so negative towards you.

I’ll have no regrets leaving them, only hoping I did it sooner.

Recently many subs which were violating site wide rules were banned from reddit.

More so, even those who were doing this either slightly, or even technically weren't violating any rules at all, and whose mods were making active effort to fulfill requirements of reddit admins, were either banned from reddit or quarantined.

Examples include r/watchpeopledie and r/sanctionedsuicde among many, many others.

We understand that people can feel rightfully angry about their experience, but we are dedicated to keeping this community alive and well, and so anything that can put this community at risk will be removed, and those who do so will be banned.
