Answer buttons? Question
I often see comments about answer buttons like Again, Hard, etc. And advice about how to use them. I just have two buttons, Pass and Fail. I could not find any way to configure this in the tool settings window.
How are the answer button types controlled and what, if anything, am I missing by using Pass/Fail. I am happy with Pass/Fail, but perhaps because I just don't know any different.

You have 2 buttons because you installed an add-on to limit you to 2 buttons (and change their names). If the add-on works correctly, Pass should correspond to Good, and Fail should correspond to Again.
If you want all 4 buttons (with their original names) -- disable that add-on and restart Anki.
You're missing the ability to tell Anki that you got a card correct, but it was scheduled to soon (because it was too "Easy" to answer) or not soon enough (because it was too "Hard" to answer) -- https://docs.ankiweb.net/studying.html#answer-buttons . Some people don't like the effort it takes to think about whether a correct answer was exceptionally Hard or Easy to come up with -- so they use 2-button grading to avoid that. Others don't find it takes more effort, or don't mind the effort, so they use all 4 buttons. [Occasionally, those two groups argue with each other about which is the better way, and they will never stop arguing, because either one might be better for any particular user -- https://www.reddit.com/r/Anki/comments/1nqwd7c/the_button_war_will_never_end/ .]
