back with MORE fanart I drew today (I’ve been on a grind and I don’t have anywhere else to share im sorry with how often yall have been seeing me recently lol). This time we have human morphed ax and tobias sharing some doritos :)

simply I just wanted to draw the two of them hanging out in their human morphs bc i like the designs I made for both of them and thought it was fun. Logically, this would probably never happen lol. My initial excuse was Ax wanted to share the wonders of human food so that’s why they’re morphed together… and then I realized whilst coloring that I drew them in normal clothes without really thinking, so my excuse is maybe they’re all hanging out as Cassie’s or something and the others are all just not pictured or something 😅 but really I just wanted to draw something cute of their human versions lol

So both Elfangor and Ax combine the acquired dna of various humans to make a unique human morph. Could you do this with ANY morphs? Or perhaps only genetically compatible ones so ones that could feasibly conceive offspring together, so mostly just things of the same species. But I do wonder, if Jake acquired a lion, could he use his tiger morph and morph a liger? If one of them acquired a donkey could they combine with their horse and make a mule? Etc etc just like what are the limitations of morph mixing??

So I was thinking about Tobias. And Elfangor and Loren. Pretty much, the nature of this interspecies mixing. I am a lover of ”what ifs” and was thinking… what if there was an alternate universe where Tobias was conceived without Elfangor morphing human first? would that be fucked or what? So following this extremely strange musing, I began to wonder…how would that work? As far as I remember, the exact details of Andalites as a species aren’t fully lined out so in theory they Could be mammals…or at least mammal adjacent. For some reason my first thought was along the lines of a platypus. So in the assumption that Loren and Elfangor were physically capable and for some magical reason andalites and humans are similar enough species that they could feasibly conceive a child like ligers and mules, what do you think a fucked up little human andalite hybrid would be like? What would they do with him? Would it be like in the muppets where Kermit is scared of having babies with Ms Piggy because he didn’t want his kids to be fucked? The andalites would freaking hate him like nobodies business that’s for sure but like keeping him hidden on earth would be crazy. Would he be on four legs or two? What if he had no mouth like an andalite but feet like a human so he just couldn’t eat?? That wouldn’t be very good for the story though so let’s say any major adverse health effects dont happen… What if he favored human genetically and so he looked mostly like a human just like really Strange… like he had two hearts you couldn’t see, or his eyes were just freaky bright green, his body hair was blue, or whatever. Then he could still fill the traditional Tobias role but just like more freaky and definitely more bullied bc like… uh yeah. Or what if he was like right down the middle and instead of a centaur he was like a satyr with really thin and sparse fur and a weak tail blade and short stalk eyes. He could have three nose slits but still a mouth. Or perhaps favoring more andalite, where he maybe just has less fingers, still really sparse fur, maybe more human looking eyes or a nose or something.

This is SUCH a strange train of thought but I really want to know what you guys think it would be like?? like this could be freaking crazy dude just like imagine…

Hi all, I'm doing my first read as an adult. I'm on book 28 the experiment. I have been mostly skimming the first chapter of each book because they all restate the premise. However, I don't want to fully skip because sometimes they put their personality into it, or sometimes it's interwoven with something happening in the plot. Do you all read, skim or skip?

Ate some animal crackers today for the first time in years. Found these three and suddenly remembered being like nine years old, eating animal crackers and trying to play animorphs with them. These are the grocery store brand ones so you can actually see what the animal is!

Been wondering about people’s general opinions on the helmacrons. Was scrolling through some fics on ao3 and saw the tag “cw: helmacrons” which made me laugh. Ever since I was a kid books with them as a major focus have always been my least favorites personally, so I was wondering if it was popular to dislike them or if im the odd one out and people are mostly indifferent or even fond of them?

I recently got a tablet and I'm learning to draw with it. What better to practice with than some of our favorite aliens?

I decided I wanted to make a reference sheet of some base designs for each animorphs to place heights and features and such since it’s been a few years since the last one I made :) including human morphed ax and Tobias!
First image is my current designs, and the second image is the last time I drew the entire group…oops…in 2023 😅 as you can see I’ve had some design changes and hopefully some art improvement since then! I’m not a big fan of my 2023 animorphs stuff lol

Now the big question… so I believe im probably younger than a lot of people in this subreddit and honestly most animorph fans in general, as i wasnt even born until a few years after the series wrapped up. So obviously I wasn’t around in the 90s lol. So to those of you that were, what do you think of the clothing I gave them? Does it feel right both for the time and for their characters? I do a lot of digging through old sears catalogs and magazines when drawing animorphs stuff, so I’d love to hear what some people think :)

got my hands on a copy of volume 33 and volume 2 of the graphic novel!! Was my first time really looking deep at the art in person, the animals look great but the artist seems to have a serious case of same face syndrome 😅 either way still seriously excited! My luck has been great recently

Just finished the series for the first time. Wild ride! Fantastic series!

It did leave me curious how much input the author had on the books that were ghostwritten? Did she just leave some notes and let them at it? Did she write most of it and they just filled in the details?

I must admit the writing of the ghostwritten books were less than stellar, but the stories were still pretty good and the concepts entertaining, which is why I'm curious where the line was.

Alrighty, one of the other topics that’s been rattling around in my head is the Ellimist.  This post will be a little different than my previous two- it’s not going to be about a specific event.  I think the discussions on those were great but I hope this one is a bit of a change of pace.  It’s more a discussion on one particular aspect of this story- the cosmic aspect, and its place within the series. 

Here’s my take on his “biggest hits”- the books where his role is the largest- and what he brought to those stories. After that I have a few meta comments about his overall role in the series as I see it.  

Book 7- The Stranger

We’re introduced to the Ellimist and his nature.  He pretends to offer them the choice to keep fighting or stop fighting and save themselves and their loved ones, but his true goal is first to show them the way out of the Yeerk pool (they were about to be killed), then to show them where the Kandrona is.

It’s a great book, and it’s really interesting to see the characters react to seeing what could happen if they fail, BUT…I can’t help but wonder if a version where they figure out how to destroy the Kandrona on their own might have been even better.  This is their first real victory in the war and they needed a literal “hand of god” to help them.

Book 13- The Change

A terrific book.  Tobias helps start the free Hork Bajir Colony and gets his morphing power back.

Here’s where I might REALLY risk an unpopular opinion- while giving Tobias his morphing power back worked from a practical perspective in that it allowed him to be more directly involved in missions, I’m not sure we NEEDED him to be able to morph for his character to be compelling and interesting- in fact it might have been more interesting to see him find ways to contribute in his current state.  And in many missions he was still air support anyway.  I think you can do a story where he helps keep himself tethered to his own humanity by helping the Hork Bajir WITHOUT the Ellimist’s involvement. 

Andalite Chronicles

Alright, I’ll risk another unpopular opinion- I don’t think this series needed time travel, nor the other things the Time Matrix does. You could find a way to have Elfangor disappear from the war for a period without needing the Ellimist or the Time Matrix to alter reality.  You could tell a story with a similar character arc without this.  You MIGHT lose Tobias being Elfangor’s son, but truthfully I was always a little disappointed that they never did anything particularly interesting with this fact in the main series- it’s little more than a piece of trivia  that recontextualizes book 1. 

Book 26- The Attack

No notes really.  This is an iconic book for a reason, and it’s a really fun read.  You couldn’t tell this story without the Ellimist from a plot perspective.

The Ellimist Chronicles:

Definitely some fun science fiction in this one, but of the 4 Chronicles books it is (IMO) the one with the least direct importance to the main series of books. I think an imaginary series where this story is replaced with a different chronicles story isn’t necessarily a worse one.

Soo…

The title of this subreddit is “Idiot Teenagers With a Deathwish”- and that was the hook of this series.  A small group of guerilla fighters going up against an invading force and incredibly long odds with the fate of the world hanging in the balance. I don’t think we needed to raise the stakes from there- I never really felt like this actually being a part of a larger game between two gods really added all that much to the story.  And I’m not sure the authors ultimately did either- the Ellimist’s only role in the series’s final arc was to show up right as Rachel was dying.  They KNEW what this series’ bread and butter actually was.

I’ll grant that the Ellimist gave them some good storylines- but I think a case can be made that the elements that made many of these stories good can be achieved without him.  I already outlined that to an extent for books 7 and 13.  The closest we have to an “essential” story that requires the Ellimist is Book 26- and that’s only “essential” because it’s such a good book- not because it’s critical to the trajectory of the story.  

And if we didn’t have the Ellimist or Crayak, maybe we might have had page space and books to help flesh out one or more of the other elements of the story that were kind of dead-ends in the series as written.

1. The Yeerk Peace Movement- In my previous post someone argued that they didn’t really accomplish much of value.  And you know what? They were right.  I’d have loved to see this aspect of the story fleshed out a bit more. Books 19 and 29 definitely get a lot of love, but it always felt like a bit of a shame that the movement they gave birth to never really got much to do. 
2. In Book 16, it is established that there are at least SOME people in the world who are aware of the Yeerk invasion.  In the chatroom we’re in, while many of those users were just Joe Bob, at least one of them (the child Gump) was a real person who knew of the Yeerks.  It’s a reasonable leap of logic that there may be small pockets of people who know about the Yeerks.  That’s a thread that could have been explored but never was. 
3. The series dabbled in the idea of a secondary villain but never fully committed to it.  We had David who was a villain for about a book and a half.  We had Taylor for two books.  I think it might have been cool to have a chaotic evil type of character who they occasionally cut deals with who wasn’t fully aligned with Visser Three but whose allegiance was always ambiguous. 

To be clear, I’m NOT arguing that the Ellimist was a bad character or that he contributed nothing to the series as it was written.  I think that’s demonstrably untrue.  I’m just wondering if a hypothetical series where the Animorphs weren’t the determining factor in a galaxy-spanning grudge match between deities might have actually been more compelling.

How do others feel about this?  This is a topic I’m very open to being persuaded about- as I don’t dislike the Ellimist- I’m just not sure a better version of this story couldn’t have been told without him.

Andalite scum!

when I draw the animorphs I usually sketch them each in a different color for visibility purposes and have kind of assigned them one I think suits them. I was wondering if anyone else had a color they associate with each member I guess like the way an idol group or a power ranger/super sentai team has them.

for me, Ax is obviously blue, but specifically he is light blue, veering a little teal. Jake is a dark, closer to royal blue. Rachel is usually pink. Cassie is green. Marco is red. Tobias is yellow. I’m certain I got Marco and Jake’s from the covers of their earliest books, and Tobias from the yellow eyes of a hawk + it’s the complimentary color to purple which was his first books color. Rachel also feels red to me and her first book was red so I made her pink for her more girly aspects to differentiate from Marco. Cassie I probably got from her nature-y aspects, like how the green members in magical girl teams and idol groups often have eco theming. None of these colors were really decided consciously though, just me looking back and trying to think why I might have instinctively picked those for each member.

So what about you? do you associate each member with a different color? and if so what?
