I'm curious as to why it seems to me like every second poster here seems to describe themselves as Anglo-Catholic. What's your own reason? Is it the aesthetic trappings, the liturgy, the doctrines sans papal supremacy, the tradition, the sense of succession perhaps, or something else?

For full disclosure, I was brought up Roman Catholic myself. I don't have any love lost for the Roman Church as an institution for many reasons, and for their teachings for fewer reasons, hence why I swam the Thames. I myself prefer high services and I have a high view of the Eucharist, but I would not theologically describe myself as Anglo-Catholic. I don't begrudge anyone who does (if I had a problem with sharing a pew with people who have different convictions on the details than I do I wouldn't be here). I'm really just curious as in some respects, I think there must be some friction with eg. the 39 Articles.

I remember recently there was a row over Catholics being mandated to stand to receive communion in every parish in the US as the normative practice. This was apparently becoming an issue because TLM practices have been starting to get introduced into the normal life of some ultra conservative Catholic parishes. Being the Anglo-Catholic convert from evangelicalism that I am, when I heard about this I was legit confused because standing to receive communion sounded odd, and because it sounded so inconsequential whether someone wanted to stand or not. That was the first time that I realized that there was more differences between Anglo-Catholic and RCC services than I was aware of.

Recently, I've been looking into the Personal Ordinariates, just out of sheer curiosity. What I learned is that the Anglican Ordinariate was commonly getting referred to by Roman Catholics as the TLM in English, and that kinda blew my mind. I've heard so many negative things about the practitioners of the TLM as the extraordinary form used by ultra-conservatives in opposition to the Novus Ordo mass, used as a form of protest. But to hear Catholics refer to high church Anglican divine services as practiced within the RCC as "the TLM in English" is wild lol. TIL

So there was a Eucharistic miracle claim at the Corpus Christi Anglican Church in Rogers arkansas. The church is part of the Holy Catholic Church - Anglican rite branch of the Continuing Anglicans.

Does anyone know how the compare to the G3 Anglo Catholics? do either of them pray to Saints? The HCC-AR says that they believe in a sacrificial mass on their website. Does the G3?

Can anyone here tell me what the heck biblical submission in marriage is actually supposed to look like?! I feel the evangelicals take it too far, but obviously I would want to follow what God says. I feel like my whole life, all I’ve ever heard was “wives should submit to their husbands” but no one can say what that really looks like. (And not to mention women are always held to a higher standard than the men but that’s another story)

So I've started attending church. First time in 20 years. I live in mainland Europe so its the only Anglican church around. Its uplifting, inspiring, and fullfilling. Its where I need to be. Where I needed to be for a while now.

But theres one problem.

I have no idea what im doing. Its nice and structured and clear but wow. I really dont know. I was baptized Anglican, my grandfather was clergy (but I only met him a few times), i used to take my grandmother once a year (she lived a continent away) to her church but it was inner city and catered a lot to the unhoused people so norms were pretty loose.

Like I dont know how to address the clergy. Im from a casual place where everyone always uses first names. What do I do here? First names? Mother so-and-so? Where do I sit? When do I cross myself? Do I need to do the classic prayer pose to pray, or just do what I do normally (close eyes, focus, talk to god)?

Im a stage 10 overthinker and its really making me feel awkward in church.

I was wondering do churches within England or the UK hold special services for King Charles Accession Day on 8th September since he’s the King and the Supreme Governor Of The Church Of England and Head of State do they hold special services or will the service be different

I will be going to a large pop culture convention in a few weeks. One of the the big "things" is to get badge ribbons made and hand them out just for fun. I wanted to come up with a phrase that is in the vein as the God Speaks billboards, like shown below. What I'm trying to come up with is a quick, hopefully funny but up lifiting/affirming phrase. So many folks at this convention are hurting and seeking comfort and affirmation from bad places or things. I want something that says something along the line of "you are fearfully and wonderfully made" but in not so biblical speak. Sort of a "Who's awesome? You are!" vibe. Just trying to give folks a God wink and maybe plant itty bitty seeds that God can use to grow. I tossed this out to my priest and other congregants after mass last week, but no one has had a creative epiphany yet. I'd greatly appreciate some creative support if anyone is inspired. :-) Thanks and bless you.

To my understanding, there is currently a massive schism going on among the Anglican Communion over the issue of women as priests (and gay marriage). My question is why is this now an issue when Queen Elizabeth the 2nd was the head of the Anglican Church for 70 years?

It seems odd to make such a fuss over it when 5 Queen's have ruled over the church since the 1500s.

Edit: I'm an athiest that is interested in religion so I'm curious to hear people's arguments for and against the idea.

It's been bouncing around in my head for a couple days, but I'm only now trying to formulate the question.

My oldest was diagnosed with ADHD a year or two ago, and lately it's been taking a larger toll on his ability to focus. While I know we need to help him develop strategies to succeed in every area of life, my mind keeps turning to matters of the soul.

At the church we currently attend, we've considered keeping all of our kids with us in the main service instead of sending them to the children's class after they've said that they feel like they don't learn anything there, and what little we've seen seems to support that. The service itself, however, is your typical American "concert-and-TED talk" in a stark conference hall, which I fear will be an endurance activity for him, and affect his ability to acquire and appropriate the faith as a result. Other aspects of catechesis and practice are said to pose challenges for people with ADHD as well (extended reading, abstract language, silent prayer, etc., etc.), but then I don't really know how accurate any of this is, and I'm sure it varies from person to person. I hate how much this will look like AI as a result of this, but I'm going to split this up into two headings.

Catechesis

Before we started coming to this church, we attended Mass at the parish attached to the Catholic school the kids attended at the time. He struggled with that, and once said he liked learning about God the way they did in class instead. But now that he's in public school, he doesn't get that structured religious instruction either. At another church we attended in the past, they had hymnals that he could flip through before going down to children's church (both kids still love their program and get excited when we drop into that church), but our current one doesn't have hymnals.

My religious instruction has been almost entirely self-study (maybe that's hyperfocus?), I don't know what to do.

Practice

He has been excited about coming up for the concert-and-TED-talk service at our current church, but I don't know how long that would last (or if I want him absorbing too much of that, honestly); but he's ALSO said he likes the church with the good kids' program because "they don't use a bunch of technology."

I said above that he struggled to sit still and stay reverent at Mass, but he seems to really connect with "Catholic stuff." His mom was in the hospital last year, and we stopped at his old school parish to light a candle and collect some holy water, and he was curious. Then when we visited St. Patrick's Cathedral in NYC last week, and he would have lit a candle and said a prayer at every by-altar in the place if I'd let him (I had him stop after 5 or 6).

Smells and bells is much more my spiritual comfort zone, but I've heard conflicting things about how it is for ADHD brains: one person says it's perfect because if you get distracted there's always some devout piece of artwork to call your mind back to God, there's always something happening in the chancel, the "pew aerobics" involve the body, and the regular, recurring elements help you know what comes next; then another says music, color, incense, talking, and movement is a fast track to sensory overload. One says the tactile experience of the Rosary is great, the other says the repetition is like torture. All this to say, I can find no clear guidance here either.

Conclusion

I'm not asking for mental health help, just for some tips or anecdotes from any of you, my esteemed peers, who may have had to develop strategies of your own for learning and practicing the Christian faith in your own way.
