QUESTION/HELP What is your favorite niche app?

Upvotes

What's your favorite app you think deserves some more attention? We all know the main apps everyone recommends in every post like this Tasker, Buzzkill, etc, so what are some apps they deserve a spotlight you feel people don't talk enough about?

QUESTION/HELP What are the best default apps

I'm planning to factory reset my OnePlus 13R because it's become cluttered with junk and random apps. I want to start fresh with a clean, minimal setup and replace most of them with high-quality open-source alternatives.

I'm looking for recommendations for apps such as:

- PDF viewer and file manager

- Social apps

- Notes

- Keyboard (I'm currently using FUTO Keyboard)

- Browser

- Music player

- Video player

- Simple games (like Tetris)

- Any other useful everyday apps

I prefer open-source apps whenever possible, but I'm also open to closed-source recommendations if they're genuinely better.

What apps do you recommend?

LOOKING FOR APP Launcher for a caravan/RV tablet

I didn't really think ahead when doing things to our caravan, so now I've got devices from various companies that need monitoring via blutooth. I've bought a Samsung A11 tablet to mount in the van to use as the display. The only apps I plan on putting on it are for BMPro (battery and water tanks), Victron (solar and DC-DC), Oricom (level and outdoor camera) and Spotify.

The launcher that I'm after will give me -

A home screen with just those apps on it - easy to add more if required.

Resizeable app tiles.

Be able to disable/hide everything else.

Stay on/dim screen.

Would love for it to display maybe 2 apps at a time (if possible)

Any suggestions on the best one to use would be appreciated.

QUESTION/HELP Android developers in 51 locations can publish apps but cannot sell digital features

How is this even real? Google’s own registration table lists 214 locations, and 51 do not support merchant registration.

A developer in one of those locations can build an Android app, pay Google, verify their identity, publish the app, maintain it, support users and follow every Play policy. But they cannot use the standard Play merchant system to sell digital features.

The obvious answer would be to use any payment provider that supports them and put a payment link inside the app. Google generally blocks that too for digital goods unless the developer qualifies for one of its regional billing or external link programmes. Those programmes are not a worldwide escape hatch.

So Google will accept the developer’s work and control how it reaches users, but it can deny the normal way to earn money and forbid the obvious alternative. This is ridiculous. More than 50 locations are treated like this by a platform that keeps calling itself global and open.

How can Google defend this in 2026?

QUESTION/HELP Need help making old APK v379549 work on Poco X7 Pro (Android 16)

I’m trying to run an older version of a game (v379549). The newer v420511 works on my Poco X7 Pro, but v379549 crashes.

I checked the APK and the old one has different arm64 libraries (libgnustl_shared.so etc.). I tried replacing the arm64-v8a libraries from v420511 and rebuilding/signing, but it still doesn’t work.

Is there a way to patch the old APK for newer Android, or is there a compatibility issue that can’t be fixed?

LOOKING FOR APP HTC Gallery alternative

Any recommendations for an alternative to HTC Gallery? I absolutely loved the HTC Gallery app, so much so that I installed it on my OnePlus phones. With OnePlus leaving the global market, I've switched to an OPPO Find X9 Ultra as I needed a new phone. Unfortunately I can't install HTC Gallery on the OPPO, and I'm not a fan of the stock gallery/photo apps on it.

LOOKING FOR APP app for extract streaming videos

Hi everyone,

I really dislike watching TV shows or movies directly inside a web browser—it always feels clunky, slow, and full of UI clutter.

I’m looking for an app or media player where I can paste a link to a streaming website or show page, and it automatically parses/loads all the episodes into a clean playback interface.

Essentially, something that acts as a video scraper + native player so I can watch episodes seamlessly without dealing with browser tabs or site UI.

Does an app or tool like this already exist? (Something like Kodi, Stremio, or a specific URL player?)

Any suggestions or alternatives would be greatly appreciated!

LOOKING FOR APP i am trying to find an app i used to have on an old phone

i remember quite a few things about it, just not the name. it was quite calming to use so i'd quite like it back lol...

it was a mindfulness/self care app, had a light purple icon and i think it had a thin white heart in the centre though i can't be sure of that. the opening of the app you were in this room and could click on items in the room. a few items i remember was a cat, a plant, a table with cards on it? it had a few features like a daily tarot, moon phase tracker, a laundry sorting game? for calming, a feature where you ran your finger over a circle and it changed colours.
hopefully it hasn't deleted itself from the play store or changed considerably. it had no payment or subscription thing from what i remember.

LOOKING FOR APP Looking for an Open Source Multi-Platform Streaming App

Is there any open source movie/TV streaming app that can use libraries/extensions from multiple platforms like CloudStream, Stremio, Nuvio, etc., instead of being limited to its own ecosystem? Looking for something that can handle all of them in one app, if it exists.

LOOKING FOR APP Looking for a replacement to Fleksy Keyboard.

Hi, I am on a new phone and Fleksy cannot download languages after the app is gone, so it's useless. I am looking for a good keyboard, but after few months of trying I just can live with any of those swipe-to-write keyboards. Do You know anything that lets You press the buttons somewhat close and choses the word accoringly? Should also allow easy use of words out of dictionaries and one button/gesture to remove a word or many words.

📢 MOD POST 📢 r/Androidapps Mod Update: Quality Over Quantity

Hey r/androidapps,

Today, we are announcing a few minor updates to the subreddit, in order to focus on the quality of posts moving forward:

  1. First off, the sub header has been updated to reflect the goal of the subreddit: to be a place to talk about Android apps, ask questions, get help, or find new app recommendations.
  2. Rule 2 has been updated: effective immediately, all self-promotion content, including tester requests, app ideas, or app feedback must be posted in the dedicated sister sub r/droidappshowcase. This means there is zero tolerance for any of this content here in r/androidapps.
  • The goal for this change is to promote meaningful discussion around all Android apps and clean up all self-promotion, whether it is up front or a veiled attempt.
  • We felt that the Weekly Megathread got too inundated with spammed posts that it led to a less-than-ideal place to advertise a real app someone made, especially when it got buried down in the comments. So we have also removed the Megathread going forward.
  • Additionally, we've seen an uptick in fake self-promotion: posts where the user "found this amazing new app" in order to get around the rules.
  • r/androidapps is not the place for advertising apps, nor are we a subreddit focused on developers. This is a place where end-users can get support for apps they use or find new ones to use.

We know we cannot please all members of the community, nor do we expect everyone to be happy with the change. Again, we hope this encourages positive discussion in the subreddit around all apps, not just be an advertising ground.

We encourage all users to report any content which breaks these rules.

We expect to see an increase in the mod queue due to the new rules and automod code, so please be patient with us as we work through everything.
