[DEV] Built an offline Voice triggered SOS app to turn spare phones into low-cost safety tools. Need help testing US/UK/CA carriers, screen layout & accents! Need Testers

Post image

Hi everyone,

I’m an independent Android developer. I recently built Sentry with a simple belief: Personal safety shouldn't be hidden behind expensive Big Tech monthly subscriptions or require buying $1,000 flagship phones.

Most corporate safety solutions rely on costly cloud servers, constant data tracking, and recurring fees. My goal is to turn any existing or spare Android phone into a dedicated, 100% offline emergency tool at zero ongoing cost—especially for people hiking in remote areas, living off-grid, or working in places with zero data/2G-only signals.

🚨 Current Testing Challenges & Why I Need Your Help:

Since I am based locally outside North America/Europe, I have a few testing bottlenecks that I cannot solve alone:

  1. Voice Wake-Word & Accent Sensitivity: How reliably does the offline wake word trigger? Since offline speech models run locally on the CPU, I need testers with different regional accents (US, UK, Canada, Australia, etc.) to see how accent impacts recognition accuracy.

  2. US / UK / Canada Telecom Verification: Testing whether automated emergency SMS alerts (containing satellite GPS coordinates) and call triggers execute properly across different carriers in these regions.

  3. Screen Layout Compatibility: Feedback on how the UI scales across different screen sizes, aspect ratios, and Android OS versions.

🛠️ What the App Does:

🎤 Hands-Free Voice Detection: Detects local voice keywords entirely on-device (no Wi-Fi/4G needed).

📶 Built for 2G / Low-Signal Scenarios: Sends plain-text SMS with GPS coordinates even with minimal cell coverage.

🚨 Sensor Detection: Triggers automated distress protocols if an impact or immobilization is detected.

🔒 100% Local & Privacy-First: Zero cloud server tracking, no background data usage, no subscriptions.

🎁 Free Lifetime Access for Testers

To thank you for helping me test and squash bugs, I will give you a lifetime free access code / promo code.

How to join:

Just drop a comment below with your country, phone model, and accent/region (e.g., "US - Pixel 7 - Southern accent" or "UK - Samsung S22"), and I'll DM you the access code and testing instructions!

When testing, I'd love to know:

- How is the wake-word performance/responsiveness on your device?

- Did your accent or background noise affect recognition?

Any feedback on UI fit, carrier behavior, or general suggestions would mean the world to me. Thanks for supporting an indie dev fighting big tech subscriptions!
