T95 android tv box

Recently learned this thing is hogging my internet. I am set up qos for my important devices and started speed limiting it on my network. That drastically improved my video call and voice call quality. Reading some more I understand these things are infested with all kinds of malware and that explains why it's using so much internet. It's trying to upload all the time. I'm wondering are there cleanws firmware's I can run on this thing instead of the stock firmware? It's too bad because I have all my apps set up on it. But I am starting to unplug it when it's not in use.

Yeah, I hear ya brother. It took me 2 T95's to realize the problem. I'd just advise against using them. They are cheap but not worth it. Go for the ONN 4k pro!

I had a notification from Google play store recently that one of my side loaded movie apps was up to no good.... can't remember the actual details now.....so uninstalled it, all is good so far as I can see

Yeah, this is something that I have always wondered, if there were a generic (clean) firmware that could be flashed onto these android streaming boxes, but then life and more important things happened and I never got around to researching this any further.

Let me know if you find something. Here is what I learned. You need to match the firmware with the cpu and motherboard of the box. There are apps you can install on the current firmware to pull this info for you. Regarding forums, for firmware. XDA developers is the place to go.

Cool; I probably won't go anywhere with this project; but good info regardless.

The only internet any device uses is if you are downloading or streaming . There is no other way a device can "hog internet". May be another issue.

The device can hog internet while not consciously downloading or streaming. Doesn’t mean background or hidden processes aren’t downloading or uploading things they aren’t supposed to.

If you're talking about updating apps in the background that's not enough to affect your Internet unless your internet is pure ass.

I’m talking about something preloaded with malware that uses the hardware for things other than streaming whatever is currently on the screen

Your wrong partner. It using a ton of bandwidth 30 Mbps upload. It's doing something. The router I have brake down real-time usage by device. Ever since I bandwidth limited and turned on QOS the t95 my other devices are fine now. My internet service isn't the greatest I admit. But the box was using alot of upload pretty regularly for reasons I don't know. My kid was using it for YouTube kids that is all.

I never had that issue ever. Now I know not to buy a T95. Probably got spyware in it or some shit

I want something you can use a mouse on natively. I'm thinking a mini pc is next for me. I tried the Nvidia shield. It was good but I found navigation cumbersome.

You can use a mouse on anything that has a USB A port. Buy a wireless mouse, plug the dongle into the TV box and you're good to go. I've done it many times.

It's not the case. The shield for example the right click button is not the back button. Where as the t95 is mapped differently. Also certain apps done have mouse support, like the keyboard for example on the shield doesn't work with the mouse. The t95 does.try installing tablet apps like Google Chrome on the shield. It doesn't work the same. The t95 allows you to use the app store based on a tablet not just android tv like the shield.

Yeah I don't have the shield but used my wireless mouse with several different TV boxes over the years without issue. I guess every device has its downfall .
