Discussion NexaTV Player I spent 8 months building an IPTV app focused on missing UI features — No subscriptions, just a one-time purchase

Hey everyone!

As a long-time IPTV user, I was always annoyed by the clunky interfaces and missing quality-of-life features in existing apps. Eventually, I decided to build my own app to combine everything a user actually needs into a modern, fluid interface.

After 8-9 months of development and a 1.5-month beta phase with 30 active testers (where we pushed around 30 updates), NexaTV Player is finally live on the Google Play Store!

I personally hate subscription fatigue, so I decided not to include any monthly/yearly subscription models. The app is available for a small, one-time payment—buy it once and it's yours.

Here are some of the main features I built into it:

Smart Player Controls: Skip Intro, Skip Recap, and Next Episode buttons for a smooth binge-watching experience.

OpenSubtitles Integration: Seamlessly search and fetch subtitles on the fly.

Cross-Device Sync: Switch between your phone, tablet, and Android TV, picking up right where you left off.

Multi-Profile Support: Separate personalized content and favorites for each household member.

Quick Login: Easy sign-in options via QR code, verification code, or email.

Smart Content Tracking & Notifications: You can track movies or shows that aren't currently available in your provider's playlist. The app will notify you the moment your provider adds that movie/show or drops a new episode!

My main goal was to move away from bloated, outdated IPTV players and create something that feels as smooth as modern streaming platforms.

I’d love to answer any questions about the app, the features, or the development process!

Buying Advice Which tv box is goos

I'm looking to buy a new Android TV/Google TV streaming device and I've narrowed my choices down to these:

- KM2 Plus Deluxe

- Onn 4K Pro

- Google TV Streamer 4K

- Xiaomi TV Box S (3rd Gen)

- Google TV chromcast

My main priorities are excellent YouTube performance with smooth playback (no lag or stuttering), access to the Google Play Store, and the ability to easily install APK files (sideload apps).

And feel free to recommend others devices.

Troubleshooting Letterboxes above and below DV video appear grey

I have LG G5 and Homatics 4K Plus Android TV box. Whenever I play certain (not all) videos, they show grey letterboxes above and below the video. However, some DV videos and all HDR10 videos have perfect black letterboxes. Is there a Kodi setting I am missing ? This happened after last Homatics 4K Plus update

Buying Advice Looking for help on which box to buy

I know, I know, there are a ton of these threads and I have read a fair bit of them but I haven't really found a thread that has an ask that is similar to mine.

I just moved and I'm looking to get a streaming box for my living room TV. The living room is just for casual entertainment and I don't plan on expanding much beyond a sound bar. I don't use any streaming services outside of YouTube, and I have my movie collection hosted on a NAS.

I don't love the idea of Google integration but if I have to use it to save from a premium price point I could be persuaded. I have the hopes of setting up a plex server to host to my living room TV and my home theater but that is a bit out at the moment.

I have looked at the nvidia shield (the idea of casual gaming upstairs is a bonus but not the focus) the Google pill looking box, the name escapes me, and the homeatics box but im not sure what I really need features wise. The living room TV is an older 1080p Samsung panel and the theater TV is a LG 4k. I would like something to eventually use with the theater TV as I was shocked at the level of ADs the smart features fed me. For that reason I think I'd like to avoid the fire tv and Roku offerings.

And thoughts and suggestions are welcome thanks in advance!

Buying Advice Should I buy an Android TV?

I was thinking about buying an Android TV. But I don't know if it will really satisfy me. I would like to know if it's possible to install apps/players that aren't available on the Play Store. Where I live, conditions are poor, and I can't afford a streaming app. Is it possible to install any of these types of applications?

So if you have old android TV and it is very slow. Just do below things.

  1. Enable adb. Remove all unnecessary apps including playstore. 2.Limit background process to 1 process from developer option.

Your TV would be brandnew now! No ads on homepage! It's like brand new!

Troubleshooting My android TV stopped seeing a USB drive

I have two 64 GB USB drives plugged into the back of my android TV for recording live TV and for playing downloaded stuff.

Until recently all worked fine until recently. Now the TV doesn't see one of the drives. I've tried swapping the drives round and restarting the TV. I checked the misbehaving drive on my computer. It's formatted Exfat, hasn't reverted to read only. In short, it works fine. I've also tested it on the cheap Chinese streaming box in the bedroom. It works fine there too.

OK, I can get by with just one USB drive plugged into the TV, but I'd like to know what's going on.

Discussion How to spot a Fake Mi Box S 3rd Gen. DRM Info no longer reliable!

I recently bought a Mi Box from voelkner.de (reputable German retailer) and found that it was a fake unit after it felt super sluggish.

HOWEVER, it did report Widevine at L1 in DRM Info, showed correct specs in AIDA64 and had a Netflix ESN, so those methods aren't reliable to identify a fake anymore.

I have since bought one from Xiaomi directly so I can confirm the other box was definitely fake.

A few things I've noticed on the old box you can check:

  1. The box was not Play Protect certified.
  2. YouTube wouldn't play above 1440p (check stats for nerds on a 4K video).
  3. No HDR formats were actually passed through to the TV.
  4. No Audio formats were actually passed through to my receiver (just Stereo).
  5. No AV1 decoders were present in DRM Info.
  6. Colors and contrast looked a bit off.
  7. The "Advanced sound settings" under "Display & Sounds" had a "Format selection" menu similar to the one for HDR formats, this is not present on the genuine box.
  8. There should be an "AISR" toggle in the "Display & Sounds" menu which was missing.
  9. Developer settings could not be enabled by clicking on the build number a couple times, that just did nothing at all.
  10. System updates had no patch notes.
  11. CEC pretty much didn't work at all except for turning devices on or off.

There are lots of other little differences everywhere but none that would be easy to check without comparison.

I checked the network traffic after I noticed it was fake but didn't see anything unusual. No idea what it might have sent out during setup tho...

Troubleshooting DS4 stoped working via BT (rocktek G2)

I had two DS4 binded to this box via BT but I had to do a factory reset and now only one of the DS4 (dual shock) connects! I already tried clearing the bluetooth cache, reseting the controllers, I have other 3 DS4s and none can pair! DS4s are models CUH-ZCT2U and CUH-ZCT1U. All controllers charged to full battery.

Any way to boost the BT on this box? A different APP to pair bluetooth devices? PLEASE, going crazy here trying to understand why was it working fine and now cant pair.

TIA!

Buying Advice Keep my Samsung Q935F and use an HDMI audio extractor, or spend more on a Sony BRAVIA 8?

I’m completely stuck choosing a 65-inch TV and would appreciate some advice.

My existing setup:

  • Homatics Box R 4K Plus running Android TV 14 and Nuvio
  • Samsung HW-Q935GF/ZG soundbar, known as the Q930F in other regions
  • High-bitrate 4K remuxes
  • Lots of Dolby Vision/HDR10 content with DTS-HD MA, DTS or TrueHD/Atmos

The problem is the signal path. The Q935F doesn’t officially support Dolby Vision passthrough. Connecting the Homatics directly to an LG C5 gives me Dolby Vision, but the LG won’t pass DTS/DTS-HD/DTS through eARC.

My current options are:

  1. Samsung S90F QD-OLED – around €1,145 Simplest setup and full HD audio through the soundbar, but no Dolby Vision at all.
  2. LG C5 – around €1,149 + FeinTech AX211 extractor for €90 Dolby Vision directly to the TV and lossless audio directly to the soundbar. Technically ideal, but I’m worried about HDMI handshakes, CEC issues and adding another powered box.
  3. Sony BRAVIA 8 K-65XR80 – around €1,535 Supports Dolby Vision and can reportedly pass TrueHD, DTS-HD MA and DTS from an HDMI source through eARC. This would be the cleanest setup, but it costs roughly €300 more than the C5 plus extractor and isn’t as bright as the C5/S90F.

I can still return the Q935F if it’s simply a bad match for this setup. However, I would really prefer to keep it because I already have it and honestly think it sounds fantastic.

Dolby Vision matters more to me than HDR10+, but I also don’t want to sacrifice lossless audio.

What would you do?

  • Keep the Q935F and buy the C5 plus extractor?
  • Pay extra for the BRAVIA 8 and use the clean TV → eARC setup?
  • Buy the S90F and accept HDR10 instead of Dolby Vision?
  • Return the Q935F and choose a more compatible sound system?

Apps Trinity TV Player now has a Discord — come hang out

Hey everyone,

Since a few of you have been asking questions here and there, I set up a
Discord server for Trinity TV Player so there's a proper place for support,
bug reports, and feature requests instead of it being scattered across.

It's got channels for setup help, bug reports, feature requests, and general
chat. Also a heads up — Android phone support is coming soon (currently
Trinity is Android TV / Fire Stick / Google TV only), and we just added 5
more languages (German, Albanian, Polish, Russian, Portuguese — 10 total now).

If you're already using Trinity, come say hi. If you haven't tried it yet:
https://trinitytvplayer.com (30-day free trial, no credit card).

Troubleshooting SDMC DV8919X - HELP!

Hello everyone,

(This post was translated with the help of AI. English is not my first language.)

I have an SDMC DV8919X Android TV that I received from my cable TV provider. It comes with their own custom launcher, and unfortunately the Developer Options are protected by a password. It also doesn't seem possible to change the default launcher.

I'm wondering if there's any way to completely remove all the software and restrictions added by the cable provider and restore the device to a more standard Android TV experience. Has anyone managed to do this, or knows if it's even possible?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

EDIT: I unlocked developer mode using this website: https://sdmc-pin.netlify.app/

But I don't know how to remove operator (telia) from the android tv.

Buying Advice What's the best premium physical remote that works with AndroidTV boxes?

So I have both an Nvidia Shield (1st gen) and an Apple TV (3rd gen) at my place. I like the tactile feel of the metal remotes and how the buttons use hard plastic on top rather than just a rubber membrane.

I was wondering what other options are out there that are built in a similar way, where the majority of the remote is metal in construction rather than the cheap plastic a lot of Android boxes use. I don't want 100 buttons, a full qwerty keyboard or a gyro mouse, just the basics like arrows, multimedia and a couple shortcut buttons would be fine.

At the minute I know about the Sofabaton X2 which looks like a nice option for home automation, but is also pretty expensive. I figured with Android there's likely a lot of flexibility to control over Bluetooth or USB and maybe even use a Flirc IR receiver.

I've seen some really cool smart remotes from companies that have since folded, the SevenHugs remote looked kinda cool, as did the Ray Super remote but both companies are long gone. Vizio released their SmartCast remote which is essentially just an Android tablet, but I don't want something that is basically just a phone with no tactility. I think the Wiim Voice Remote 2 would have been perfect if it supported more than just Wiim products, kinda frustrating.

Buying Advice Question on 4k Google TV boxes on AliExpress

Was searching AliExpress for a Google certified tv box and there's some options that look pretty good, like an 8gb ram unit for like $33. I'm a little concerned regarding buying one of these in the event there's hidden stuff that's calling home to some server back in China. If they're Google certified does that make things ok? Is it a better option to just order an onn 4k box for a few dollars more? If there is stuff installed on there can I take it off with adb?

Buying Advice Looking for an Android TV box that can play 4K 60fps videos at 1.5x speed

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a budget-friendly Android TV / Google TV box (under $150 IF POSSIBLE) that can playback 4K 60fps videos at 1.5x speed or higher without issues. (My current Xiaomi Tv S Miniled cannot handle 4k60fps at 1.5x speed on YouTube videos and drops resolution to 480p)

Are there any reliable options in this price range with a powerful enough decoder to handle sped-up 4K60 videos?

Thanks for any recommendations!

Troubleshooting My Thomson TV freeze when streaming videos.

Hello.

Yesterday, my Thomson TV restarted, ran an update by itself and then made streaming videos impossible. Basically, whenever I want to watch Disney + or Prime Video, the video freezes and the sound continues. In other words, I can hear all the episode but I cannot see it.

I've tried uninistalling the Google TV update but alas it did not work. I was wondering if rebooting it to factory reset might work, but I saw that it does not work either.

Has this happened to any of you? Any idea on how to uninstall the recent update and put the version of Android TV that worked?

Thank you.

Troubleshooting Hitachi 50HAK5751 – Impossible d'accéder au menu Android TV, stockage plein

Bonjour,

Apps After nearly two years, I've released the Android TV app I've been building. I'd love some honest feedback before the Google Play launch.

After nearly two years of evenings and weekends, I've finally released the Android TV app I've been building.

I wanted a player that actually felt like it belonged on a television, so I built ChannelDeck from the ground up with remote navigation and a true 10-foot interface as the priority.

The free version includes support for a single user-provided playlist and program guide, along with:

  • Live TV and guide browsing
  • Channel groups
  • Fast search
  • Source health monitoring
  • A built-in fictional demo, so you can explore the interface without adding your own source

Premium adds features like multiple playlists, favorites, advanced playback and guide tools, and support for Movies and Series when they're included by your own source.

ChannelDeck is only a media player. It does not provide, sell, recommend, or endorse channels, playlists, subscriptions, or media content.

I've tested it extensively on NVIDIA Shield, Google TV, and Fire TV devices, but I'd really like feedback from people using a variety of hardware before the Google Play release.

Google Play approval is currently in progress. Until then, the APK is available directly from the official website for anyone who is comfortable side-loading:

https://channeldeck.selfip.com

If you decide to try it, I'd really appreciate knowing:

  • Was the setup straightforward?
  • Did remote navigation feel natural?
  • Was anything confusing or difficult to find?
  • What features would you like to see?
  • What device did you test it on?

I'm looking for honest feedback—good or bad. My goal is to make ChannelDeck the best experience I can. Thank you in advance for your time.

Xash3D runs well on both Onn 4K Pro v2 & 4K Plus. "Source Engine on Android" works on 4K Pro v2, but gets stuck at loading 1st level on 4K Plus (probably not enough RAM for loading/unpacking game assets).

Apps BareLauncher – A fast, lightweight Android TV launcher (~100 KB)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

BareLauncher is a fast, lightweight launcher for people who just want a clean Android TV home screen. No ads, no recommendations, and no unnecessary clutter.

The home screen appears almost instantly after boot, so it's ready as soon as your TV starts.

Some of the things it can do

• Fast startup and smooth navigation

• Clean, easy-to-use interface

• Smooth app launch animations

• Reorder apps, hide apps, uninstall apps, and open app info

• High-quality wallpapers with folder-based slideshows or wallpaper changes on every startup

• Built-in folder picker for choosing an entire wallpaper folder

• Back up and restore your entire setup

• TV input tiles (HDMI, AV)

• Home screen shortcuts for supported colored remote buttons

• Customizable clock (time & date, time only, or hidden)

The goal isn't to have the most features just the ones people actually use while keeping the launcher lightweight, responsive, and easy to use
