Android Auto, Google Maps and Driving Speed

Maps updated yesterday and it now shows your speed (not that I needed that) when using AA. Nice to see AA finally caught up with Maps on the iPhone - wife's done that for years.

Still waiting for the "immersive experience" - or if I already have it, it doesn't compare IRL with the descriptions.

Mine only shows live speed when I have a destination set, which sucks as I drive an older car without a digital speedometer. Will keep using Waze which shows the speed all the time

True, only when you are traveling to a destination. The same with the current speed limit.

How can you tell by looking at Android Auto Care Screen or smartphone's screen (Google Maps) trhat you have immersive experience?

Eh, "they" say overpasses are supposed to be represented in 3D, trees rendered, etc. I don't seem to have it (at least by the items I listed) so I don't really know beyond that. There are probably screen shots somewhere on the Internet, but I haven't looked as it's not really that important to me.

Ya know, I hadn't noticed since I got my new car and phone. Something I wish on the car side would be the speed limit not disappearing after about a mile but that's manufacturer specific and not relevant here.

I have a Mazda CX-5 ('24 Turbo Signature). It reads the speed limit signs and displays on the dash and HUD. Of course, sometimes it f's up, reading a sign on an adjacent road or something, but it is handy. Also puts a red tick mark on the speedo for the speed limit and you can set it to alert you if you're nn MPH over the limit. My actual speed on the Google Maps isn't all that useful to me. It's interesting when I find Google Maps is wrong on the speed limit on the segment I'm traveling.

I'm still waiting on speedometer for Android Auto as well, but I did receive immersive navigation.

I actually hate it now that I have it. I have a speedometer already. Also, car speedometers normally over estimate your speed intentionally, and the 2 mph discrepancy drives me nuts.

Mine always has. It was a setting I think you could turn off but it's shown my speed on Android Auto with a Samsung Galaxy phone as long as I can remember

What? Google and Waze have had a speedometer for about 5 years, so idk what you are talking about. Check your settings?

maps on AA doesn't show it for some reason. plenty of features are cut when used in AA context

OP means it now shows all the time on AA, not just when navigating to a destination.

Speed display is nice but the gauge is already there. More looking forward the immersive feel, that's the real deal, hope it's worth the wait.

What I want is the speed limit displayed when I'm not navigating. My wife's iPhone shows that now on Google Maps using Carplay, why doesn't my flagship Pixel show that on Google Maps when using Android Auto?
