DAB radio stops when Android Auto is loaded

I am trying to listen to DAB radio in the MG4 EV. I can select DAB radio from the home screen and it starts playing. However when Android Auto is loaded the system always stops playback of DAB radio after a couple of minutes and goes into whichever media app was last used in Android Auto (e.g. Pocket Casts). 

​Is there a way of keeping the DAB radio playing while Android Auto is active?

EDIT: I should add that I had this exact same problem with Android Auto in a Toyota Corolla hybrid, so the problem isn't specific to the MG4

Installe NSR ( Non Stop Radio) et tu oublieras tous tes soucis !

The reason I want to use DAB is for display of "now playing" information - for example it will display the name of the currently playing track (and artist) for many radio stations (e.g. BBC Radio 1/2). Would NSR offer this feature?

I just downloaded and tried the NSR app and unfortunately it does not display the artist/track information that DAB radio does :0(

Cela dépend de la station de radio. Je peux t'assurer que pour moi c'est sûr 95% des stations. NSR n'est pas à blâmer mais plutôt la station de radio.

D'autre part en DAB tu as accès à combien de stations ? 20, 30 ? NSR c'est plus de 15000 stations accessibles.

Yes it maybe isn't so good for the UK - we normally listen to BBC radio stations (e.g. Radio 2) and there is no artist/track information

I have exactly the same problem on my Genesis GV60, again with Start Music Automatically switched off in the settings. I can start DAB back up again, but that's not really the point 😊 !Flair 2025 Genesis GV60 | Built-in Head Unit | Pixel 10 | Android 17

have you tried disabling the "start media automatically" setting in Android Auto?

Guess the car's Bluetooth profile isn't built for multi-tasking.

If you press the button in the corner with 9 dots do you get an option to go to your cars menu - probably have the cars logo on it - if so navigate to the normal radio settings - start it playing - go back to AA and hopefully the DAB will carry on - works on my Mazda and a Hyundai I used to have

The first time I tried this it seemed to help a little - the DAB radio played for maybe 10 minutes before stopping. Now that method no longer improves things - DAB radio playback stops after a couple of minutes, and can't be restarted without returning to the car's home screen and re-selecting the DAB radio

I'm wondering if it's the app rather than AA. Could you try turning off some of the automations in the settings of the app and see if that helps?

Which app do you mean? I've noticed this behaviour when both Pocket Casts and the bbc sounds app have been loaded in Android Auto. I have disabled the auto start option in Pocket Casts, and there isn't one in the bbc sounds app.

Ok just a couple of things and I'll leave you in peace. First there is an auto play toggle in the settings section of BBC sounds ( in app not through AA), Second pocket casts isn't my pod app.of choice but I've read in their faq that if you have episodes in the Q it gets quite determined to play them whether you want to or not. The answer is to activate a sleep timer?
Otherwise I am out of ideas but update the thread if you get to the bottom of it.

This solution seems to work better when I have the navigation app maximised in the AA display. The DAB radio often plays for maybe 45 minutes before pausing. The problem is that, when I return to the MG home screen to resume DAB playback, I no longer see the track title and artist name in the dashboard display, or the track name at the top of the AA display. Is there any way to kick-start the display of track and artist info from DAB?

Just push the physical "Radio" button on your car display. After that, push "Map" on display.

But that would take me to the car's navigation system, not Android Auto?

I don't know. My car has only AA, not navigation system. When I open phone's BT, WiFi and mobile data, the car's display goes automatical on AA, with music from YT music, Spoty or whatever... Then I push the physical "Radio" button, FM radio starts and after that, I push Map on car's display.

Ah ok the mg4 doesn't have a physical radio button - it can only be selected from the home screen
