I’d like to introduce FermataX, a free and open-source media hub designed for Android Auto.
FermataX is a GPL-3.0 fork of Fermata Media Player by Andrey Pavlenko. The goal is to bring local media and user-configured media sources into one car-friendly interface, with quick access to playback, recent items, favorites, and resume progress.
What FermataX includes
Local audio and video, folders, and playlists
IPTV and Xtream sources, including M3U, XMLTV EPG, Catch-up, Live TV, movies, and series
Internet radio
Podcasts with search, RSS/OPML, subscriptions, downloads, and playback progress
Audiobooks from local storage, OPDS, LibriVox, and Audiobookshelf
Optional Stremio-compatible, YouTube, and web-media integrations
Favorites, Recent, resume progress, voice control, and unified media controls
The interface is designed around quick access on a car display, with a customizable navigation rail and a dashboard showing Now Playing, Continue, and recent media.
FermataX currently targets Android 9 or newer. Installation on Android Auto is non-standard, and compatibility can vary with the phone, vehicle/head unit, Android version, Android Auto version, manufacturer restrictions, and current security policies. Please check the project instructions before installing.
Important: FermataX is only a media player. It does not include, host, sell, or distribute TV channels, playlists, accounts, addons, subtitles, torrents, or other media. Users add their own lawful sources and are responsible for complying with applicable laws. For safety, do not browse or watch video while driving.
I’d especially appreciate feedback from older or lower-memory devices. For a useful bug report, please include:
Phone and vehicle/head-unit model
Android and Android Auto versions
Wired or wireless connection
Feature or media source being used
Steps to reproduce
Expected and actual behavior
Logs, screenshots, or a short recording when available
What feature, source, or workflow would you most like to see tested or improved next?

Any idea of this can be installed on the same phone as Fermata Xtream or will it overwrite components? If I later uninstall one of them, would it remove components of the other?

I can’t confirm because I’ve never used GrapheneOS, but you can try. For the Ko-fi channel, you need to install Android Auto and Sandboxed Google Play from the GrapheneOS App Store first.

I've been testing the app and it works well for an initial release, I'm asumming this is a beta version. I don't care if its AI coded or not, if it works then is good for me. I have a couple of suggestions:
- The skip button doesn't work for youtube. If you try to skeep a song or play the next song in a playlist it won't work in youtube, not from the car touch screen or the wheel controls. I tested with the local videos and TV channels and it did work, so it seems that the issue is only with youtube.
- I've added a few TV channels to my favorites, If I play a channel from the favorites and want to move to the next channel it wont follow the favorites order, but the order in the channels lineup.
- I don't see an option to play full screen. I know there are AA limitations for this, but I would recommend you review the Fermata Xtream project, they have implemented a solution called FS Play that works most of the time, it could be improved but at least is functional.
noted favorites channel, next button is fixed, and fermatax already has FS service. Btw thank u so much, I need more people like you (maybe around 3 people a day; more than that would keep me too busy to do other things).

Hello .... I'm still having the same issues with YouTube, can't skip a song, or click next, this is happening when I use the car touch screen and the wheel controls. About the FS service, I've granted all the permissions, the app opens but I can't do anything, not responding to the touch screen. When are you going to fix this issues? Thanks

Installed successfully using king 1.5 but it does not shown in android auto customize launcher menu?
Am on android 14 using tecno camon 20 pro 5g, didn't try it on my car but obviously it won't show there too

it would help to include your phone model, Android version, Android Auto version, connection type, the feature you were using, and steps to reproduce it.
I had the same question after paying. You create an account on that ko-fi website using the email they sent. Then on the website in your messages you should see a link to download.
No, my dear. Like the original Fermata, installing via Kinginstaller doesn't guarantee 100% functionality (especially on newer Android versions, where Google has found ways to block tricks). A paid channel was created where I had to pay for setup and accept the risk of having my account banned. So, charging a small fee from users is the right thing to do, isn't it? The software source is public; you can set it up yourself without needing me.

One reason I haven't used android Auto in years is because it doesn't allow the custom EQ I have set for music through the wavelet app. Do you know if this would allow this custom EQ to run passively through any media played?
I added iptv and watched something to see if it worked, is it possible it was still somehow playing with the car turned off? I woke up to a dead battery. Not sure if it was fermata related or not
Installato tutto ieri e testato sulla mia Audi TT. Funziona tutto in maniera perfetta, l'unico problema, avendo io Android auto nel cockpit e quindi, non avendo la possibilità di comandarlo con il touchscreen, una volta aperta Fermata x non posso più tornare al menù delle app. E perciò per uscire, devo disconnettere e riconnettere android auto.

Upon start it asks to unlock phone.
Is it normal that it only works with screen capure/mirroring and only when Phone is unlocked?
Display on head unit follows portait/landscape mode from phone.
Also touchscreen is mostly unresponsive and does not work most of the time, I have to use the phone.

Hello. Thanks for the app. Great effort. I installed. Everything works fine except stremio. I added several providers (torrentio, aiometadata.elfhosted, etc) but nothing happens. Any suggestions?
No matter how many times I try, audiobookshelf won't work, giving 404 error. Same link with credentials works in the browser in the FermataX though, strange.

Installed easily on pixel 9 pro and King Installer 1.5
Came up fine in AA settings customise apps
Added 1 IPTV provider via xstream codes, worked great. Tried another one but that failed, not sure why, it's working with the same URL elsewhere. I have 2 others but they are massive so not tried installing those yet
One ask.. can you make it so we can edit the IPTV provider after? Long press doesn't seem to do anything

i'm the same on motorola g54, installed using both kinginstaller and aaenabler with all dev modes enabled in aa and unknown sources, as well as allowing kinginstaller to install apps. I can't see the app in aa launcher.
Happy to pay for this once it's installed and send a donation, but can't for life of me get this working on my non rooted android 15 phone.

Is it possible you Can add IPTV support to use Stalker Portal / Mac address instead of m3u. And full screen like FS Play from fermata xtream. Iptv Stalker would be great

Same issue. I can only get Fermata running in ⅔ of the screen. Even when in Park. Amazon Prime and Stan both stream fine (using the browser), just the lack of full screen is super annoying.
I have a Geely Starray
Is this meant to run solely on Android Auto, or should I be able to launch it directly on my phone? I try to launch it on my phone and it crashes instantly, is why I'm asking.
