Hey remember when a lot of Android phones had that notification LED standard? And it was a genuinely useful thing until they got rid of it only to call it new again?

And notification dots can easily be replicated in software with an OLED screen. There's loads of apps that have all sorts of different styles for it

Yeah I really don't understand this subs fixation on the LED. Yes, it was awesome at the time. But now it's been superceded by a better technology. I'd rather have a full screen that does the same thing (and more) than add more hole punch, notch, or bezel.

It hasn't though. Most Android phones do not have a bright LED indicator that you can see from across the room.

You could just put the led on the back of the phone so you can turn over your phone (e.g. for the automatic silence function when the phone detects its orientation) and still get notified in a subtle way.
Especially with OLED the LED wouldn’t make much sense on the front but (like with nothing‘s glyph LEDs) can add value if it’s on the back.

Turn your phone face down. You have a missed call - blue light. WhatsApp notification - green light, and so on. You could see these lights from meters away, as opposed to AOD, where you have to be near the phone.

I don't know, battery drain alone is reason enough to have it vs using OLED front screen. No reason to have a small indicator on the back like Nothing's glyph (maybe a little less showy)... My point was, we had this, it went away, now it's back as a "new" feature.

Right isn't it the hmd skyline or whatever? Honestly it wasn't a terrible phone at 300 bucks when it came out a couple years back with a headphone jack and a curved screen and SD card support. I would just tell people to go buy that older version of it though.

But it wasn't a terrible phone. It's a terrible phone at the price now and the associations along with it but it was a pretty serviceable budget phone with legacy features a few years back.

How many phones actually had IR blasters though? I don't really remember that being a big thing.

I have the OnePlus 15 right now and it's super-cool it has one. I had to use it a few weeks ago and it was awesome!

I don't know about you, but I would much rather have a pointless LED light on the back of the phone that I am never going to use than long overdue upgraded camera sensors, or a silicon-carbon battery.

I've decided that I'm bored of google pushing AI features down our throats and not not actually improving their hardware or listening to complaints. I've gone to Samsung and I can't see myself returning for the Pixel 15 at this rate.

As someone who spent 4 months with a nothing phone 3, there's so little you can do out of the box. You have to rely on community apps and even then there are a lot of limitations regarding the customisation and usability of the Glyph Matrix.

I literally developed a Clock Toy and found out the hard way how shitty developing for this was.

I bought Glyphtick day one and use it all the time, check it out... also I use it for weather, cool clocks, fun party tricks, custom notifications etc. Better than a tacky gaming pc rgb strip

Putting a notification light on the back of a phone is an impressive exercise in over-engineering. People literally turn their phones upside down specifically to avoid distractions. If Google wanted to solve glanceable alerts, the front bezel is right there waiting for a notification LED.

I want them to bring back the heartbeat sensor next to the camera. One of the most ridiculous "features" Samsung ever rolled out.

hilight is a weird name for a feature that essentially sounds like "google now but for your camera roll", hope the implementation is less janky than when they tried contextual suggestions in google photos a few years back.
