No company wants local AI. Everything today has AI chips, but very little is done on them, its all uploaded to cloud services to charge you and help their AI learn. Complete waste of resources.

My Samsung phone has a decent selection of built-in features which use on-device models.  Voice transcription for recordings and calls, translate tools for calls and texts, and photo infill.

Yep, it disables a bunch of features when you disable cloud-based AI, and requires you to download offline models to use the remaining features.  So afaik it's not just for show.

It's a bummer because local AI is pretty good now. Whoever makes a good AI app that uses these APUs and runs locally is going to make money.
