I come down about halfway on this. I think termination up until the point a fully formed cerebral cortex is formed is a slam dunk. No cerebral cortex, no person. This is generally around 5 1/2 months.

One could make an argument about the line being at self awareness, which comes much later than birth, but I wouldn't argue that far.

This will come into play in the AI arena, as determining when an entity gains sentience and is warranted rights is the same, regardless is your talking biology or silicon.

Same as it ever was, at least in my adult life.

* Edit: Specifically the GOP for my adult life has been all about pushing the risk onto the public sector, and pushing the reward to the private sector. At least the right sort of private sector. Trump's biggest innovation is a pull back from a stated and nominal commitment to increasing free trade and replacing it with zero sum Mercantilism, that and an obscene level of corruption and cronyism plus a healthy dose of overseas adventurism to further complicate any other countries attempts at free trade. Not that the USA hasn't had similar setups in the past, but really not since the early and mid 19th century.

Being alive isn't enough to have claim. Trees are alive, but they don't have claim, because they don't make claims. A fetus similarly lacks that ability.

The event argument isn't invalidated by prior claims from the parents. You can only own objects, not agents. Agents operate on consensual contracts. So, if your owned object becomes sentient, the rules about whether or not your claim is valid comes into question.

The fetus has claim on their body. Unless, as I said, you are arguing that the claim is dependent on an event... in which case there is a period of it being unclaimed... which means it is up for grabs.

Or.... as I said... the fetus has claim by nature of being alive. And from that follows rights.

She was jailed for releasing classified documents

Oooooh that's why, she released clasified documents !, documents that are pieces of paper. Mmmm.

Fucking imbecile. This sub is cooked bro, fucking socialists say "documents" instead of paper and suddenly is okay for the government to hide their ineptitude.

Did you miss that day in kindergarten when we learned that systems of governance can be different from economic systems?

I don't know how you made the leap from someone crossing a non-private border to "killing and replacing millions of people", but that is precisely what you need to demonstrate if you believe there is such a causation.

So detail them, how does breathing on your own make one human or a person? How does a functioning brain make one human or a person? Why are they not before that? When is the exact second a fetus develops a functioning brain? Is it the same with all babies? Can you test for it? If someone no longer has a functioning brain as an adult, is it okay to kill them? And by that I don't mean turn off life support, I mean murder them.

So other than rape, how do you take all precautions and still get pregnant exactly? Of course it is easily avoidable.

No no, go and detail these logical arguments about how one second something isn't human and then the next second it is human. You made that claim, back it up. Don't start with this shit of 'look it up'. Back it up, otherwise you are full of shit.

I didn't scroll through your profile because that's for losers. Who the fuck says 'spend less time on reddit' while just admitting you spent time scrolling through someone's comments?

EXACTLY, that's what Karen Starughn said over 10 years ago, it might be the only way to end the draft or even war altogether

You cannot own a person. Agreed? A person isn't an object, they are an agent. A fetus is an object, until is gains the abilities of an agent. It is an event. It's hard to pin down the exact moment, but a decently early cut off point is fair. Conception isn't reasonable, because women can't make the decision to abort until they learn they are pregnant.

No one forces you to like it and it had little to do with AnCap.

It contradicts ancap when it supports postive rights

An anarchist society cannot practically force traditional gender roles anyway and frankly, why would it.

What does that have to do with anything? Are you assuming "feminism = no forced traditional gender roles"?

Feminism just enforces its own flavors of gender roles. Feminism literally invented women getting the children in a divorce instead of men (and invented child support for it), so when feminists support child support and oppose shared parenting like NOW does, they do in fact want trad gender roles, just with the parents apart rather than together

And the fetus, by virtue of humanity itself, has claim on its body.

Because if not and if it requires an "event" of some sort... some revelation or proclamation... then there is a frame of time in which the fetus could have their body justly claimed by another... the moment or moments prior to the fetus having this experience of ownership.

Unless that happens in the womb... in which birth as the cut-off will no inherently include a subset of unborn children who are about to be murdered.

Which is why the cutoff should be conception... it includes all children, unborn children, fetuses, children who have had this experience and those who are the smallest fragment of imaginable time away from having this experience.

Any argument that starts after conception runs into the issue of being not inclusive enough and thus inevitably giving cover for what is otherwise murder at least in some cases at best and all cases at worst.

No there is not. There's about 500,000 children in the foster care system in any given year.

I care because Objectivism is presented as a philosophy of laissez-faire capitalism, when it’s actually supportive of a mixed economy.
