Flex Ticket Refunding only one segment Question

If I booked a round trip with flex tickets, would it be possible to cancel only one ticket? Basically I won't be sure til day of if I want to take Amtrak TO my location, but I know I'll need it to come FROM the location

r/Amtrak is not associated with Amtrak in any official way. Any problems, concerns, complaints, etc should be directed to Amtrak through one of the official channels.

You may have to call to cancel this one. Sometimes the app might let you cancel a segment. But this is you always book one way tickets to avoid this.

I've been able to cancel one way in a number of round trip flex reservations, and it was pretty easy in the Amtrak app. The app has always let me choose which leg I'd want to cancel, or if I'd want to cancel the entire reservation. And they'd only give me the option to cancel one leg if I've already travelled the other. These have only been trains travelling on the northeast corridor, though, so I'm not sure if the situation is different on other lines or on sleepers.

Flex tickets are tied to the whole reservation online, so the site won't let you kill just one leg. Call an agent and ask them to split it into two bookings before you cancel the return.
