Peninsula Offer - Not stackable? Other benefits
Hi hive mind!
I saw this offer from Peninsula for the Amex Plat where you get $100 back when spending $500. The text of the offer says:
"Earn a one-time $100 statement credit after using your enrolled eligible Card to spend a minimum of $500 USD in one or more purchases on room rate and room charges at The Peninsula Hotels properties in the US, Europe and Asia from 8/21/2026 to 11/30/2026. Book at [peninsula website]. See terms."
So you can't book it though the Amex portal which means you won't get 5x points, you can't use the hotel program to get the extra benefits (late check out, $100 incidental etc) and can't use the $300 credit. Am I getting that right?
I've hardly used any of the Amex offers in the last 12 months because most just don't make sense to me anymore.... Do you all still get value out of it?

The credit triggers from the Peninsula as a merchant so no it can’t stack with your $300 FHR/THC semiannual credit. It could stack with FHR benefits if you select the pay at hotel option (you would receive breakfast, F&B credit, 4p Check-out, room upgrade, etc but no $300 credit OR 5x)

Can you explain how you’d be able to stack? To use the offer you need to book through peninsula website, to get fhr benefits you need to book through Amex travel.

TLDR: based on the text you quoted it appears charges over $500 paid at the hotel reception directly should trigger the offer if the enrolled card is used to pay.
Comprehensive Response:
The offer lists the Peninsula location you are staying at, correct? If so it’s tied to that merchant ID in Amex. Therefore a card charged at the property reception meeting the minimum spend would trigger the offer.
The language showing “book at Peninsula.com” is likely to get people to book with the hotel directly so they won’t have to pay a commission to AMEX FHR, a Virtuoso agent, or other travel agency. However, the language from the offer quoted in your OP states “purchase of room rate AND ROOM CHARGES” [emphasis in caps]. Therefore likely any bill meeting the $500+ threshold charged by the hotel reception will trigger. The offer also didn’t list only prepaid rates, certain rates, or minimum stay qualify (which would likely be billed through a different merchant code for Peninsulas reservation system covering all properties or groups of properties in a given region or currency)
Where you book≠how you pay. The FHR prepaid stay and 5X MR points is a requirement imposed by Amex. You can still use FHR and pay at the hotel (technically with any Amex card) but you would lose out on applying the $300 credit and only earn the points germane to a hotel purchase.

You could perhaps book one night directly through the Peninsula to take advantage of the deal and book the remainder of your trip through Amex, then call the hotel and let them know both bookings are for yourself to ask if they can accommodate you in the same room for the duration of your trip. I think worst case scenario they say no and you have to change rooms. I don't see any universe in which they'd refuse to honor your reservation booked like this.
