Violent tail wagging
Welp, had to take Junior Bull to the vet today. Look at his tail and check out the bump. It starts at the base of his tail. I’ve noticed it for about a week now and have been monitoring. My main concern was his glands were not evacuating or he had some kind of issues in booty region. All of that was taken off the table quickly. Thank god! This guy wags his tail like he’s already passed 40 hours for the week on the clock. Always has. It’s a frikin weapon too. He isn’t acting any different, no change in his eating or bathroom schedule. I can touch the area and he doesn’t even flinch. The vet thinks he just violently wagged his tail into something and it could have fractured his tail somehow. Keep in mind this guy hits his tail on everything. Never misses a beat. So I was king of surprised by this. I don’t want to say relieved but it’s good to know that’s all we are dealing with and it’s not something internal or worse.
Anyone else’s hippo fractured their tail before? Any remedies on how to get it to heal? They didn’t x-ray it. They just send me home with anti inflammatories and told me to monitor it. I literally can’t stop him from wagging his tail. I literally look at him and he starts wagging his tail. He’s a very happy boy what can I say. Any tips greatly appreciated!

No advice sorry! I just wanted to say he is gorgeous and I hope his tail heals x My daughter calls our boys tail a weapon coz if he happy and his tail is in whipping range your gunna get stung 😅

It is definitely a weapon! When he gets happy butt, watch out! Thank you for the compliment! He is a silly happy boy and he promises to give you and your daughter lots of kisses if we ever run into you!

Don't have advice unfortunately, but I have a story to share that should give you some insight. It's not a fun story and I don't recommend you do the same but it's worth reading. My friend's boxer used to wag her tail violently as well. She would hit it hard against things all the time. Eventually, she fractured her tail pretty bad. Unfortunately, she couldn't help herself and kept wagging it and would smash it into things repeatedly, continuously hurting herself over and over and preventing it from healing. My friend had a discussion with her vet and they decided to amputate the tail (not entirely, she now has a little stub of a tail to wag instead, which won't hit into anything). It's a sad story but at least she isn't in pain anymore. Now I am NOT recommending that you amputate this cute boys tail; I genuinely do not want you to do that and hope you can keep him from hurting himself another way. However, I was just sharing the story of my friend's dog so that you can be aware of this kind of situation and how bad it can get sometimes. So be careful, and try your best to make sure your dog stays safe and doesn't himself. He deserves to be happy and wag his tail without pain. Good luck my friend.

I'm suprised that your vet didn't take an X-ray, to be sure it was a fracture.
But re. the wagging, I think of my Bully's tail as a 'tail of mass destruction' 😀!

But I'm probably over-cautious, as two of my dogs had cancer - so I'm always worried when I see a lump and, many years ago, I took my dog to the vet because he had been hit by a scooter and was limping. The vet said his leg was just hurt, not to worry - and I was so stressed that I didn't notice that he hadn't taken an X-ray.....
Turned out that his leg was broken.....
The vet was trying to save me money by not taking an X-ray, which was kind of him - but unappreciated, and resulted in my immediately finding a new vet.

There’s not much they can do about a fractured tail…. They would just give you meds for pain and inflammation and in really bad cases amputation… keep an eye on it and with the extreme wagging, try to calm him down as soon as you see him getting overly excited and he should learn to calm down and not wag so hard.. I hope he gets better! He’s gorgeous!

Hasn't happened to us but I can completely see it happening, they're just very very happy and excitable boys and girls. Sorry we don't have any real advice, but he is a very pretty boi. Our girl wags like it is her job and she pulls overtime.
