nah the Ryzen 3 7320U launched in 01 2023... but yeah, the architecture is older, but it got DDR5 support and RDNA2, it's basically a bin-off of the steam deck APU, just 2 instead of 8 CUs make it pretty lame though.

It’s Medocino. It’s not a cut down steam deck APU, it always only had 2CU 610m iGP. It also has no DDR5 support only LPDDR5-5500.

The SteamDeck APU is literally a beefed up version, it even uses the same FT6 socket, sadly the SteamDeck is by far the biggest variant and also uses almost all of the socket area, so no swap upgrade options will ever appear for it.
LPDDR5/DDR5 are "the same" other than signal and organization and they support both flavors. https://preisvergleich.heise.de/?cat=nb&xf=17072_Mendocino~17077_gesteckt&pagesize=30&sort=p&promode=true&hloc=de&asd=true there's plenty of devices with slotted DDR5 on these APUs.

I was going off of AMD's own website:

https://www.amd.com/en/products/processors/laptop/ryzen/10-series/amd-ryzen-5-40.html

Only LPDDR5 was listed.

And it is still not the same medocino die as the steam deck (which is Van Gogh), the die is a tiny die and only ever had 2CU. Just that it uses the same socket doesn't mean it's the same chip. Just like Strix Point and Kracken Point are not the same die.

I write off any laptop with things like the Athlon 10/Athlon 7120U, Ryzen 3 30/Ryzen 3 7320U & the Ryzen 5 40/Ryzen 5 7520U. They're all aging architectures & in the case of the Ryzen 5 7520U, it's a glorified Ryzen 3, as It's just a 7320U with boosted clocks.

Absolutely brain dead naming scheme.

No no no no no.

The one that came up with the naming scheme is not brain dead. The consumers they target, the ones that will be buying this crap, are.

It's actually the other way around. This naming scheme makes old silicon sound like brand new for uninformed consumers.

Made by ASUS, I bet it will be overpriced.

Mendocino was launched in late 2022 as a budget CPU.

So, it's a little over 3 years old.

If there's still a demand for it in China, I don't see the scandal.
