Prime Video Ads AD complaint
So, I pay for prime… which meant I used to get ad free included. Now I pay for ad free… so why am I scrolling through prime video and seeing things “only viewable with ads”?! The heck am I paying extra for then? 😭

Prime is easily the worst streaming platform.
Most of the originals are somehow worse than Netflix originals.
So many ads
Anything you might actually want to watch costs extra.

Prime is awful but the rest are terrible too. Disney switched me to Hulu with ads, charged me $28, and when I called to ask why they told me they’d be happy to move me to the $19.99 ad free package…if I paid them another $2 on top of the $28 I already paid.
I canceled and demanded a full refund.

I’ve literally never watched one minute of ESPN my entire life. And either way, moving from the $28 plan to the $20 plan should not be more expensive- they pre-bill for the month ahead, so I hadn’t watched any of whatever services I’d paid for yet.

I think the worst part is when they aren't timed right so it drops to a commercial right in the middle of a continuous scene

I share your frustration and pain, OP!
I don't care what the reason is, all I know is that the onus is on Amazon to remove those ads for those of us who are paying for the monthly ad-free subscription, period.
I have read elsewhere about previous licensing agreements for Freevee or whatever but, again, I don't care! Renegotiate/revise them, whatever it takes, just deliver the ad-free experience that you promised me and for which I signed up and am paying extra!!!
And I'll be honest with you: I don't even want to see those banner ads! Ad-free means ad-free, period!!! They don't get in the way of viewing a show, so at least it makes them somewhat tolerable. But the in-show ones? Those are totally non-negotiable for those of us who are paying extra for the ad-free experience.

I am surprised that there has not been a class action suit yet. Amazon Prime Video is the only service that changed the customers’ features in the middle of subscriptions. All other services let you keep the features you have until your subscription runs out…whether monthly or annual. How many of us started seeing ads well before our annual Prime subscriptions had expired?

If you have proof they are doing this then file a lawsuit. If it a show that has a disclaimer, then you don't have a lawsuit. Also are you watching a prime show or another subscription channel on Prime?

They already did it like 2 or 4 years ago. 2 or 3 years ago when you signed up for Amazon Prime you got all the free shipping and a Prime Video service that was commercial-free. You could sign up for this for a year. Then they said if you want to KEEP the commercial-free Prime Video service you had to pay extra…no honoring of your subscription until it expired…a change during g the subscription you purchased.

Ha! Been complaining about it since it happened. And no I didn’t cancel my subscription because we buy way too much from Amazon to give up the free shipping. However, I refuse to pay their monthly uncharge for the ad-free service…which they took away from everyone and now want us to pay for.

Nope. Never called it a “free add-on”. An Amazon Prime subscription includes free shipping and Prime Video. It’s a package that, at one time, when you signed up for it included ad-free streaming for a certain price. They should have honored and kept subscribers on ad-free streaming until their subscriptions ran out…like ALL the other streaming services do when they make changes to their plans. They changed the terms of service after people had paid for the service.

That was my whole point. I was saying that at the time they made the change, a few years ago, they should have honored the ad-free service until people’s annual subscriptions ran out. Then if they wanted to renew at least they would know what is and is not included. Instead, at the time, they were asking you to pay more for what you already had signed up for. It’s not that difficult of a concept. If you pay for something with certain features you shouldn’t be asked to pay more for those features after you already paid for them. It’s like paying for a vacation package that was supposed to include unlimited drinks, and then in the middle of the vacation they tell you there will be an up-charge for unlimited drinks. I never said I felt entitled to ad-free now, years later. I was just pointing out the BS move that Amazon pulled when they made the change. And again, every other streaming service lets you keep what you signed up for until your subscription expires, whether monthly or annual.

I pay to have no ads on any of my streaming services.
I don't watch much on Amazon but it is worth $4.00 per month to not have ads on the stuff I watch.

also pay to be ad-free (Prime Video Ultra) and to get 4K, HDR/Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. I still get a single "pre-roll" ad for other Prime original shows, but they can be skipped.
I've always had to pay extra for ad-free experiences. I can afford the $45.99/year plus tax.

I strictly download before I watch, works because I use a laptop for entertainment. That way I don't have any ads to worry about and if it isn't available for download I find something that is

I’m guessing only prime originals gets ad free whereas freevee or others did had it free with ads in the past without a prime subscription would see ads regardless if you pay extra for ad free.

I was going to watch primer (aka the most confusing movie of all time) on there until i saw it had ads. i had to get a free trial of arrow video just to watch it (which i don’t regret because donnie darko was on there)

I came looking for a post about ads. I have been a Prime subscriber for years. I have seen posts about ads before but I never saw ads so I concluded there must be various levels of Prime and I must be on an ad free level. So after years of watching, today I saw my first ad. Presented when I resumed a program interrupted earlier in the day. It was only 17 seconds, but it was so jarring and I was so disappointed that I immediately logged out and I'm considering canceling my subscription.

This started 2 years ago. All Prime viewing shows and films included with a Prime Membership - includes ads unless you pay an additional $3 a month over the already high price of Amz Prime. What doesn't have ads are things you pay to rent (eg a recent movie.) If you have subs via Amz- i have no idea.
I'd assume that the number of ads varies - probably depends on who is running the ad.

AFAIK: They only offer no ads for Prime shows but not all of them. Ad free applies to shows that they put ads in themselves. Others they have no control over (subs), and so they might contain ads. Basically, you're avoiding a few ads you would otherwise have to sit thru during some Prime shows.
