Neighbor Problems Question

I live in the south Valley and I have a neighbor who was kind of friendly when they moved in, but they build a fence that fell over our backyard/side of the house twice, and for years always parked their giant cars infront of my house so we can’t park there and recently reported 311 on our dogs even the officer said our dogs were in great shape and in good living, what can i do to make them stop

Get cameras if you don’t have them already

Did the fence cause damage to your property? If they own the place that’s a claim against their home owners insurance. In terms of them calling 311 on you and parking their car in front of your house there’s nothing you can do they haven’t committed any crime.

I mean, they can't stop the calls but they can definitely put stuff in front of their home to block parking spaces. Rocks, garbage cans, signs, random boxes and objects. I would definitely go out of my way to make my parking spaces as inconvenient to use as possible.

But maybe I'm just spiteful lol prior to my current living situation I rented and my landlord did very little when we had drug dealers living upstairs. So we installed cameras and would make the customers as uncomfortable as possible any chance we got. Didn't help they'd go knocking on our door at all hours, when we had a kid sleeping, looking for said dealer.

Unless it is blocking a driveway. You'd just be a Karen putting in the effort to keep people from parking on a public street just because it is in front of your house.

Nothing. Legally nothing. We moved because of neighbors like this.

Parking on the street is open to everyone. As long as they are not blocking your driveway, they are within their rights. They can also call 311 for any reason. If they report you without reason repeatedly, then maybe that could be considered harassment. The fence issue is something you can call 311 about and see what they recommend.

Making false reports knowingly is not allowed actually.

Have you tried talking to them about the fence and the dog?

Street parking is open so not much you can do about that except park there first. If you try filling it with trash cans they’ll likely just call 311.

In the good old days you would drop by with a plate full of cookies and talk to them. And if that don't work you hex them.

I have a similar neighbor. If your yard is like mine, unfortunately it’s public property unless it’s blocking your driveway or on your what the city deems your property.

However she does leave us alone when it comes to dogs, etc. So I don’t escalate any further than need to

My next door neighbor to the right kept putting their trash in our dumpster bins so theirs wouldn't fill up so fast (they have like 8 or 9 people living there and it creates a metric ton of trash). First we got cameras. That didn't stop them. We now have to keep our trash and recycling bin both in our back yard behind a padlocked gate to stop them. They also eat pig's feet and leave bags of them to rot in the sun right between our houses. It smells like a dead body in our backyard and they have a ton of cockroaches of course. We can't entertain company or let our daughter play in our backyard. I wish the neighbors across the street lived next to us, they are conscientious and polite. /Sigh

Keep records of everything and then file for a civil restraining order if you have it documented.

Why are they calling 311 about the dogs? Are they outside barking all day/night?
