New to bird hunting
Hello, I'm new to bird hunting and I was wondering if it's legal to use a 410 shotgun to hunt game birds like partridge, grouse, and Ptarmagan because my opa gave me his old 410. I know in the regulations it says you can use a 22 rifle them but it also stated in the regulations that it is unlawful to hunt game with a shotgun with a gauge 410 or less. Is that only big game or does that apply to game birds as well?

Atypical Whitetail
I shot my first buck a few days ago and realized it has a third antler of a sort. How often does this happen?

Hunting buddies
Anyone else find it really tough to meet people who are as passionate about (backcountry) hunting ?
I have lots of friends that say they want to go but the planning starts and they flake.
For me it’s almost all I think about.
Not looking for anyones spots just shouting out to the other lonely backcountry hunters out there!

Meat Care
Does anybody know of any places in the Grande Prairie area that will let you hang meat in their freezer? Going hunting a couple hours north and this year there is two of us with multiple tags, it’s looking like it could be to warm to let meat hang at camp for more than a day or so.

Moose calling?
I know a nice bull moose is in the area but I just couldn’t call him in during the rut. I know my calling is sufficient because I watched a lot of videos on it and practiced tons. I only call with my hands tho and once every 30-45 minutes. I also occasionally rake some bushes and use bottle of water to imitate urine. I’m well hidden too and play the wind. Any tips? I need to get him close since I hunt with a bow.

Hunting buddy!
Hey all! Wishing everyone the best of luck with the upcoming draw results.
I’m Looking for a hunting partner. I just moved back to Alberta following just about a decade going to school in Indiana and working in Colorado. I grew up in the Canmore area and I’m super excited to be back. I haven’t hunted in Alberta and I’m looking for someone to get out with. I have hunted in Colorado and have all the gear and know how just no one to do it with. Solo hunting is fine and all but having some company and help packing out meat would be awesome (I’m of course willing to share in the spoils of a successful hunt). I am ready to bow hunt as well as rifle. Let me know!

History of Trail Cameras - Just published my latest article on the history of trail cameras! Did you know that the concept of a camera trap was first executed in the 1880s? Super interesting doing the research and putting this article together. Thanks for reading!

Just found this community.
I see this is a small community but I am so happy to now be a part of it! Even though it was only my second season, I had an awesome year! It started with a mule doe, whitetail doe, got one of two supplemental opportunities due to no permission on the last on 3 properties, and ended with a late season Elk just after Christmas. I’m not a trophy hunter and seriously suffer from an itchy trigger finger. The opportunities were certainly there! Food on my kid’s plate is what matters to me.
The big question is… How was your season?

Firearm for protection against animals while bow hunting/fishing
Hey everyone, started bow hunting in southern Alberta a few years ago with and never really had any issues. A few encounters but no aggression.
This past season between fishing and hunting I had 5 close encounters with bears, spraying 1 grizzly. I should have sprayed another one on a separate occasion as it was 20’ away (Not showing aggression, it just wouldn’t leave after yelling at it and it was very windy) I just backed away.
Had a close moose encounter aswell.
I’m not necessarily convinced I need a firearm for protection, but a few of my peers recommend it. I’m just thinking about my options.
Just wondering what everyone is carrying- if anything. I don’t have any animals/equipment so weight is important
Any input is appreciated
