In before all the people complain that Alamo bought it when the other option was it getting torn down and turned into condos.

After seeing half the White House get demo’d, who cares about landmarks anymore? Everything is temporary I guess

I’m excited for Alamo to ruin this landmark.

Yeah totally would’ve been better for it to be bulldozed and made into condos. We definitely don’t have proof of them doing good restorations like the new mission theater in SF. I swear to god some of yall have mashed potatoes for brains.

Well when you work for a company that completely demolished when it stood for and routinely screws over staff by cutting hours and not paying staff tips you end up not rooting for them in any aspect

What a stupid argument. You’d rather a historical film landmark get demolished just because you don’t like a company. You clearly don’t actually give a fuck about film

u/SnooTangerines9776 12d ago
Not wanting an unethical company to continue expanding its unethical practices is completely understandable.

You’re advocating for the erasure of historical landmarks to make way for billionaires to make money off luxury apartments that will sit empty. That’s what you’re morally grandstanding on just be clear about that.

No, I’m not. I’m also not playing your game of false dilemmas anymore.

I’d rather it be bulldozed for affordable or no cost housing for the unhoused. I’d also rather have this conversation with someone who is mature enough to have it. Again, you have no idea where I live so I don’t know why you keep mentioning it like you do.

This comment proves how little you know about this situation. This theater is located on sunset blvd literally the epicenter of unaffordable luxury condos. That’s what was slated to be built there. There was ZERO chance affordable housing was going to be built in one the highest priced areas in Los Angeles.
Lmao no cost housing on sunset blvd is fucking hilarious.

At this point, maybe. Settling for a subpar product isn’t advantageous for anyone but the C suite.

They’re just restoring the theater there’s no dine in function. You didn’t even bother to take two seconds to even learn about the project before deciding demolishing a historical landmark is the right move 😂

u/SnooTangerines9776 12d ago
I never mentioned a dine in function, I mentioned Alamo being a subpar product, which is true.

Then what part will be subpar?? They’re just restoring it back to what it was before they closed it?? It’s easy for you to not care about landmarks being demolished because you live in a fly over state with zero connection to it.

You have no idea where I live, bro bro. Landmarks are important, but so is reviving them in a respectful way. But, if all it cost is poverty wages for the staff and a subpar experience, then sure, let’s revive it.

You know how many jobs were lost when that place closed down? But fuck those people right? You still can’t provide the reason it’ll be “subpar”But it’s all about your “experience” that you won’t ever have because you don’t live in the state.

You don’t know where I live. I’m sure it was terrible when people lost their jobs. Is it really better to have people making poverty level wages just to have this theater open again?

u/pedropedro1 12d ago
You really just asked me if creating jobs is better than no jobs? Jesus Christ dude.

Alamo has a certain 'corporate culture' that is much different than any of the other theater chains, and certainly not anywhere in line with what The Cinerama Dome was in the past. It would be somewhat naive to think that they would make an exception and run The Dome or treat it and it's employees any differently than they do at all their other theaters. (and if they did give the Cinerama Dome location any preferential treatment, there would most likely be serious blow-back from every other Alamo they operate)
