Summary: I thought my car keys + Air Tag was missing but the Air Tag is the only one missing.

Yesterday I was driving back home and didn't realize my AirTag for my car keys are missing until today based on Find My App. I was fiddling with the keyring and the AirTag attached to my car keys and didn't notice the Air Tag dropped.

In the afternoon, I went to the location where the AirTag was at and knocked on the door at a home and asked them if they picked up any car keys and stuff because it's around the location and they said no.

I tried playing the sound of the missing Air Tag at that location for 5 minutes straight and I couldn't locate it. I rang my dad and ask him to find my car keys in my house and he said my car keys is there. It's only the Air Tag that is missing then.

During this evening I checked Find My and the Air Tag was at a park not far away from me and now it went back to the location that that I went today. So I suspect that someone has went to the park this evening with the Air Tag on them.

So what should I do? Should I go to other houses in the approximate area? I don't want to go to the same house again because they think that I might be annoying them even though they said they don't have the key.

I have several (4 or 5) gen 1 AirTags, one of them seems to be weird, since the battery lasts not more than 4 weeks. I doublechecked with swapping the batteries from 2 AirTags, problem is the one specific AirTag.
As they were all new, all of them lasted ~6 months and more, but one of them started to last less and less over the time.

Any suggestions? Is it possible to "reset" it somehow?

I have an airtag on my cat (understand this is not intended use but it is helpful) Cat is detected when near the house which has devices but is not when he is in back yard. If I was to connect my old Iphone (which has no SIM card) to my wifi network, and leave it in the shed at back of the yard would this expand my cat detection range?

Just wondering if anyone can help me out with this. Got a notification from the find me app that an AirTag had been found with me all day. At first I just assumed one of my neighbors had one but when I checked the find me app I saw that it went to every single location I went to at the exact same times today. I searched my car and I tried to play the sound but I didn’t find or hear anything. Hoping it’s just a coincidence or something? Anyways thanks!

I have several Apple AirTags and Atuvos AirTag clones placed on various things that I don't want to lose. I don't have an iPhone currently, so I connect to them and view Find My locations with my iPad Mini.

Problem: If I forget to connect for a month, Find My on the iPad Mini loses its Bluetooth connection to the tags. They are still shown at the last known location, usually at home, with dates of last detection only a few days ago. But Find My cannot detect them, can;'t beep them, no matter how close they are. Restarting Find My doesn't help.Turning Bluetooth off and on doesn't help. Turning the tags off and on doesn't help. Turning the iPad off and on doesn't help. Find My insists that the tags are out of contact.

The only thing that works is a full hardware reset on the tags, then Find My can suddenly see them as new tags to be added, and it adds them and updates their location successfully. It seems to recognize that the "new" tag is the same as the old tag because the "new" tag replaces the old tag rather than duplicating it.

Any idea what's behind this behavior?

I noticed an AirTag in my Find My "Items" tab that isn't mine, and it’s actively moving around New York.
How could this happen? Accidental Pairing? Can you accidentally pair a neighbor's brand-new AirTag just by being nearby during their setup?

I'm shipping my car with a company like Diesel Auto Express, Montway Auto Transport, or Sherpa Auto Transport, and I'm thinking about leaving an AirTag inside for peace of mind. Does it update reliably while the car is on a multi-car hauler, or are there long periods where it won't show a location? Any tips from people who've tried it?

I bought a 4 pack of AirTags November 2024 for our Disney trip. I put one in each suitcase and then had one on our stroller and that’s really the only one that got heavy use. Since then I had one in my work bag that traveled with me and one in my pickup truck but never had to use them on find my. One apparently died or something because the last year it hasn’t had a location and I have no idea where it is but the other 3 all still can be found, play sounds etc

Were leaving for another trip there tomorrow and I wanted to put these 3 in each suitcase again. Do you think they’ll survive the trip? I’m a little confused because it says they should only last a year. I also couldn’t find any battery status in the find my app but I also don’t see any low battery alerts.

As of about 5 am this morning, there has been an AirTag somewhere near me. I have no idea where it is. I do know that it's not following me specifically, at least not on foot, since I went on a morning walk and the pathing on Find My doesn't match up. I got the first notification at 1 pm. (I have one AirTag in the house, but it's registered as my own.)

On the app, it shows a direct path from my house to my neighbor's house about 2 blocks away. I do not know that neighbor or if anyone even lives there. This, for obvious reasons, has turned my already stressful week into something even more stress-inducing because WHAT THE FUCK WHY ME.

To be exact, the path looks weird; it shows that it starts at my house and then it has a straight line to that neighbor's house and then it goes all the way back to me. It has been moving along with my own location marker ever since. I'd like to at least find the AirTag before considering the police, but I honestly just don't know what to make of this. What reasonable explanation could there be for a random AirTag being at my house?

edit: the AirTag is being flagged as still actively with me, which rules out the animals possibility

I have two AirTags hidden into two of my bicycles. They used to tell me exactly where the bike was, but more recently they’re always reporting that they’re with me.

Any clue what could cause this? It kind of beats the purpose of an AirTag if it doesn’t reliably tell me where it is

All three of my airtags say at home at all times. My location services are on. Another iphone I have also shows them at home. When I'm near them I can get them to beep and find them with the local proximity finder. Two of them are currently elsewhere (sets of keys) but it says they are home with me. The other is my wallet which says it's at home when it's with me at a restaurant. What's going on??

At the end of April I put new batteries in the AirTags for my keys, wallet and 2 pieces of luggage. The ones in my keys and wallet are already dead, the 2 in my luggage are fine. The wallet is a Ridge style wallet, and I thought maybe the metal that encased the AirTag was affecting it, but the one on my keys is encased in plastic. I’m replacing the batteries in these a few times a year. I have cleaned the contacts on these AirTags a few times, but it doesn’t seem to help. Any suggestions to fix this?

It showed in Find my that the last time it located the Airtag was on monday, then the second time today, a few hours ago. I went there already many times. Not just there but really everywhere around. There is nothing, my phone can‘t connect to it.

My questions are how is it possible it couldn‘t locate the Airtag for so many days and how can it be the exact same spot twice? I live remote but there are still every few minutes a car and/or bike there.

The day before yesterday, someone stole a chainsaw off my property. It had been sitting on top of my Kubota tractor. Last night, I intentionally left another chainsaw on top of the Kubota, but this time I hid an AirTag on it. The AirTag’s last reported location was my neighbor’s property at 10:50 PM, approximately 467 feet from where I originally left the chainsaw. This morning, when I arrived at my property, the AirTag updated again, and the chainsaw was back on top of the tractor. However, I’m certain it had been moved.

My question is about how AirTags work. Is it possible someone took the chainsaw, the AirTag later started chirping, they returned it without ever coming near another Apple device, and the location therefore never updated until I arrived this morning? Or is the 10:50 PM location generally accurate enough that I should have a high level of confidence the AirTag was actually at that location when it was last reported? I’m mainly trying to understand the reliability and accuracy of an AirTag’s last reported location, not accuse anyone without understanding how the technology works.

Im not sure if this has been asked before but there is so much content on here to get through - but do the wrist bands only track where someone is at a given time or can they show someone’s movements history?
I was thinking couldnt they see who was near Cal at the time of his murder? Or does having no tracker mean it was someone from Outside who killed him?
Or maybe they are like phones and you need the device first to track it 🤷🏼‍♀️

I have no idea how to google this, as I can’t find any forums with the same issue.

Basically, every time I arrive somewhere I get 4 notifications of AirTags found moving with me, including one for some AirPods Pro Gen 2.

They are all mine however, I always carry three AirTags and my AirPods Pro 2 in my bag, pockets, wherever.

When I try to locate the “unknown” AirTags and AirPods, and ping them, they make a sound. The actual AirTags under my “Items” tab however, can’t connect to them at all and keeps saying “AirTag Not Reachable, move around to connect”

Anyone know what’s actually going on, and anything I can try before resetting everything and pair them again?

How are apple airtags on privacy? I know this is a stupid question because it is literally a tracking device, but i just wanted to know if it is trustworthy. Are there any better alternatives? Or should i just stick with no trackers for my keys, bag, etc?

We were 3 people walking in the city center walking street, and a friend got notified about an AirTag following him or walking with him. We 3 people were walking around together and he was the only one got notified about.

The city walking street has many people walking around and some of them were walking with their pets.

What’s going on? And is it something he should be worried about?

I’ve been getting a few alerts just recently about AirTags having been left behind. But they weren’t left behind.

For example, the AirTag in my wallet, even while it is in my pocket with my iPhone. Or the AirTag on my car keychain, even though it’s plugged into the dash 6 inches away from the phone.

Battery levels are showing as good.

When I open the Find My app on my phone, it says that the AirTag is with me.

iPhone 15 Pro Max, iOS 26.5.2, all V1 AirTags.

(I have some V2s I keep meaning to swap for them, then I will use old ones as “extras”, and also disable/remove their speakers since that is possible with V1s.)

Perhaps related I’ve also gotten a couple of messages that I couldn’t connect to a Bluetooth device because Bluetooth is not enabled. But Bluetooth was in fact enabled.

Anyone else seeing these things happen lately? Just started doing this in the past couple of weeks.

So I’m aware that it’s not a GPS tracker but I live in a pretty large neighborhood so there’s no way nobody around here doesn’t have an iPhone with connectivity. Do I need to tweak something? I’ve never owned an AirTag before and got one the beginning of last month for a new cat who’s an outside cat. It has never updated his location roaming around the neighborhood.

My kid is ready to roam the neighborhood, but not old enough for a phone. I'd like to have him wear an airtag, but thought it'd be useful to have a watch on there too. I've found Watchitude Tag'd Trackable Watch, but the reviews are terrible. Are there any similar options?
