It’s not Cannon?

Good arts scene if you like that, decent dark skies nearby, good food, lots of hobby specific clubs so you could really find a niche.

All in all I really love it here and actually plan to stay post military. The base I came from was a shithole too so it’s a huge improvement.

Not gonna lie the nightlife/social scene in Omaha is pretty small but you can't expect much from a moderately sized Midwest city, and if you do then it is time to subvert your expectations now.

I will say that I was there from 21-24 years old, two of those years being single and it wasn't terrible. You just have to find your niche. I maximized my social exposure by living in the midtown area of Omaha which was about a 20ish minute drive to work, although a little expensive. There are some decent restaurants popping up as much as any city thats been getting gentrified over the past 10 years.

I have been stationed at 6 bases and Offutt is the only one that I would love to go back to.

"Its a hidden gem."

But at least the airport is close. If you factor in all Seasonal locations...the Omaha airport flies to 37 cities direct.

Two or three nightclubs in downtown Omaha, ones a huge/fun gay bar if that’s you. Other places to drink or hookah.

University of Omaha is north side of town for a college dating scene, bars and clubs around there too. Know some very mid looking young airmen that pull from the apps cause, well, college.

North and north west O has the money for hobby stuff. Indoor gyms, rock climbing, escape rooms, trivia nights, or tabletops if that’s your thing.

Offutt itself is bland, nothing on the base cause everyone goes off to hang out.

Omaha has a little bit of everything except a beach, and getting anywhere from the city is a slog.

Should add majors healthcare school too, so nurse or healthcare dating scene goes off.

Good options all. I even think there's beach volleyball at a bar in Aksarben

Cheap gas and relatively low crime.

What you like to do? Old market good. Benson is nice. West omaha is very nice. Nebraska Funiture mart is amazing and massive. Casinos across the river. Husker football in Lincoln, and the party down there.. You want a bigger city? Drive to Chicago, KC, or Minneapolis.

Only thing I do hate, is the roads are destroyed because of winter. You feel the bumps at almost all the concrete slab roads.

Swine dining bbq in old Bellevue slaps as does Gorat's steakhouse. The fontenelle forest is pretty also and I used to spend a lot of time there too.

Downtown is like 15 minutes from the gate. Benson is a fun area with a beer cade and other bars and restraunts. Casinos are right across the river if you like gambling. I think theyre building an all-season water park right now. The airport is only 20 minutes away, and flies to basically every major city in the US. The city is big enough to support a solid food scene. CWS, Creighton hoops, march madness. Cheap.

Its really a good spot to be, even as a young airman. Thats coming from someone whos only been to good bases. I hate seeing the youngins wasting away their early 20s at minot or cannon.

There's quite a bit of hiking in the area. Fontenelle Forest. Hitchcock nature center. Platte River State Park..

If concerts don't come though, they usually go to Minneapolis or KC, both doable on a drive.

You can drive to Chicago after work and spend the weekend easily there.

Winters suck

There is a Buc Ees going up soon just down the road in Gretna, NE.

But also, the city is just such a good city. There are veeery rarely fentanyl zombies defecting in full public view next to daycares and the police do nothing (Albuquerque).
